The issue wasn't just that they casted a woman of color - they made a "documentary" about a historical figure with tons of proven misinformation that slandered the history of both Egypt and Greek. As a German myself, I am unsure if we even have a copyright to Snow White. Sure, the tale is of German origin, but the story has been around for centuries in some form or another, it is not owned by one person or one company. The Grimm Brothers only wrote it down and made it slightly more family friendly. Also, unlike Cleopatra, Snow White is only based on a historical figure (Margaretha von Waldeck), she wasn't a real person.

The OG Grimm Brothers was pretty dark. Disney didn't change that much, they changed the ending where the Evil Queen had to dance in scalding hot metal shoes until she dropped dead, removed the two assassination attempts before the posioned apple, and they also had her wake up from a kiss, not from the casket being dropped and the piece of apple being catapulted out of her throat.
Snow White is called a classic because the story transcends time. That is, the story can be told to any generation and it will be understood. Trying to destroy the classic and remake it in the image of today’s culture means it can never be considered to be a classic.
The original animation is not actually the original story, and the moral of the original story was ultimately about vanity. There's a MAGIC MIRROR in the original stories, chrissake. The original Grimm tale had factors about a poisoned comb and tightened corset too. The original Disney animation doesn't focus on the vanity so much - although the Evil Queen literally sits upon a throne decorated as a peacock - but it was still about how innocence and humility are beautiful, arrogance and jealousy are ugly. As the Queen grew more envious, there was NOTHING she could do to be more beautiful than the pure and gentle Snow White. She became as ugly on the outside as she was on the inside. And in the end, love and hope triumphs over death itself. You see NONE of this in Disney's Snow White. It's just 'Girlboss' all the way through.

Fairytales have evolved, from Fractured Fairytales to Everafter to Once Upon a Time. But, what Zegler seems to have missed is that Snow White did not come into existence in 1937, it was adapted to animation in 1937. We have more modern Snow White tales: Snow White and the Huntsman and others, all of which are good, and also continued that "true love" thing, because even business powerhouses need love. Zegler seems to think all fairy tales sprang into existence in the 1930s through the 1950s ... which is not true. Surprised she didn't prefer one of Anderson's versions, where nobody wins and she could have tackled the Ice Queen and won both her brother's freedom and got his heart back. Not knowing the history and castigating the animated movie was just ... wow, tell me you aren't particularly well educated in history without just saying it.
I hate that our culture is being forced to divide like this. So much good and progress these last 15 years denied because people couldn't keep it in their asses.

Funny how everyone calls the Disney cartoon "original" and saying that Daily Wire are going for making the first Disney version. Back when Brett Cooper first talked about their version, she actually (very correctly) talked about how they are going even further, going for closing in on the "Brothers Grimm". For example giving her really long hair like the depictions in the Grimm's fairytale. And I personally LOVE them for it. Disney have (also in the "old" cartoon versions) slaughtered several fairytales from both "Brothers Grimm" and "Hans Christian Andersen" (H. C. Andersen). It would be SUPER awesome if Daily Wire would also take "The little Mermaid" and go for H.C. Andersen's version. It is in no way the romanticized version that the Disney cartoon is. It is actually a quite brutal story.
When is Disney going to get the memo? If you want to make a movie different, why not make a different movie? Stories aren't told to be retold and twisted from the original. If you want a more modern movie, make one. Don't take old stories and try to make them fit a modern age. People love their history, and to twist a story is simply a lie. When people bring these movies to their children, it is to share their history, not to devastate it. It is sad that Disney is basically stating with these movies that they have no new ideas, so they have to destroy old ones.
You can't always tell from a trailer but going by that it is a much better movie. I also can't blame Zegler for Disney's version, in a different role she's a fine actress. Gal Gadot was also a bad casting choice since the story requires Snow White to be more beautiful than the evil queen. They needed a once beautiful but now fading actress for the Evil Queen. To bad Angelina Jolie was already cast as Maleficent since she would have been a good choice for the queen. Also maybe Demi Moore could have done it.

The OG Grimm Brothers was pretty dark. Disney didn't change that much, they changed the ending where the Evil Queen had to dance in scalding hot metal shoes until she dropped dead, removed the two assassination attempts before the posioned apple, and they also had her wake up from a kiss, not from the casket being dropped and the piece of apple being catapulted out of her throat.

Snow White is called a classic because the story transcends time. That is, the story can be told to any generation and it will be understood. Trying to destroy the classic and remake it in the image of today’s culture means it can never be considered to be a classic.

The original animation is not actually the original story, and the moral of the original story was ultimately about vanity. There's a MAGIC MIRROR in the original stories, chrissake. The original Grimm tale had factors about a poisoned comb and tightened corset too.
The original Disney animation doesn't focus on the vanity so much - although the Evil Queen literally sits upon a throne decorated as a peacock - but it was still about how innocence and humility are beautiful, arrogance and jealousy are ugly. As the Queen grew more envious, there was NOTHING she could do to be more beautiful than the pure and gentle Snow White. She became as ugly on the outside as she was on the inside. And in the end, love and hope triumphs over death itself.
You see NONE of this in Disney's Snow White. It's just 'Girlboss' all the way through.

As a person who collects old fairytale books, The stories should not be changed. If an entity is unhappy with the original, they are free to write a new story with new characters. FTR Disney changed the story the first time too.

Fairytales have evolved, from Fractured Fairytales to Everafter to Once Upon a Time. But, what Zegler seems to have missed is that Snow White did not come into existence in 1937, it was adapted to animation in 1937. We have more modern Snow White tales: Snow White and the Huntsman and others, all of which are good, and also continued that "true love" thing, because even business powerhouses need love. Zegler seems to think all fairy tales sprang into existence in the 1930s through the 1950s ... which is not true. Surprised she didn't prefer one of Anderson's versions, where nobody wins and she could have tackled the Ice Queen and won both her brother's freedom and got his heart back. Not knowing the history and castigating the animated movie was just ... wow, tell me you aren't particularly well educated in history without just saying it.
I hate that our culture is being forced to divide like this. So much good and progress these last 15 years denied because people couldn't keep it in their asses.

Funny how everyone calls the Disney cartoon "original" and saying that Daily Wire are going for making the first Disney version. Back when Brett Cooper first talked about their version, she actually (very correctly) talked about how they are going even further, going for closing in on the "Brothers Grimm". For example giving her really long hair like the depictions in the Grimm's fairytale.
And I personally LOVE them for it. Disney have (also in the "old" cartoon versions) slaughtered several fairytales from both "Brothers Grimm" and "Hans Christian Andersen" (H. C. Andersen). It would be SUPER awesome if Daily Wire would also take "The little Mermaid" and go for H.C. Andersen's version.
It is in no way the romanticized version that the Disney cartoon is. It is actually a quite brutal story.

When is Disney going to get the memo? If you want to make a movie different, why not make a different movie? Stories aren't told to be retold and twisted from the original. If you want a more modern movie, make one. Don't take old stories and try to make them fit a modern age. People love their history, and to twist a story is simply a lie. When people bring these movies to their children, it is to share their history, not to devastate it. It is sad that Disney is basically stating with these movies that they have no new ideas, so they have to destroy old ones.
I don’t think making a movie simply to spit another studio is the best way to go about it.
You can't always tell from a trailer but going by that it is a much better movie. I also can't blame Zegler for Disney's version, in a different role she's a fine actress. Gal Gadot was also a bad casting choice since the story requires Snow White to be more beautiful than the evil queen. They needed a once beautiful but now fading actress for the Evil Queen. To bad Angelina Jolie was already cast as Maleficent since she would have been a good choice for the queen. Also maybe Demi Moore could have done it.
