Got my Joss 20-204 last month. Added a Cuetec Cynergy Carbon shaft to it. You are correct about the wow factor! My childhood pool buddy of over 40 years passed away 4 years ago. After that playing pool was just not the same. Retired in March of this year. Cleaned off my table in the basement, and started playing again. My local dealer here in Chicago had one in stock, felt like my cue of over 20 years, solid and well balanced. Feels good to bend over the felt again. I know my Joss will take good care of me for the next 20 plus years. Thanks for the post.
I know this is a year later. Firstly, condolences or the loss of your friend, sounds like you guys had a lot of fun playing on the felt! Second, I was wondering who was the local dealer in CHicago here? I live in Chicago, but it always seemed like I could only get cues from second hand, no one had stuff on hand.

I love the way the CoM looks good. I used to have one myself. My friend currently owns one too. Love the sharp points! I recently have an 85 Joss with a first gen 314 and it's retired my Mezz w/ignite and some customs lol. Funny thing is I also havent' seen much joss cues around me. In Chicago, it seemed like it was always McDermott. All my friends and family from Chinatown all started with Meucci's, then graduated to SChons, then finally to customs (usually a Cognoscenti lol).
I guess the original CoM N7 cues had diamonds (or maybe even notched diamonds) in the points. I was disappointed when I found that out. Now I'm on the lookout for one of those.
Question on cure tips. I see you’re an old school La Pro tip guy like I used to be. I tried a Kamui Brown & noticed a slight difference in softness (wood shaft steel joint) I’m going to try a Kamui Brown S now & see how it feels & how I play it. As you mentioned b4 all cues hit different & I believe a softer or harder tip one can help achieve the feel they like to an extent w/o compromising play harder is more accurate softer not so much. I’ve noticed all the top pros use softer tips now than back in the day & I think that has to do w/ the low deflection grafite shafts most are using? I’ve even seen where some pros are using Super Soft tips. Not many using old Harder La Pro anymore? And I will add I had a few house cues given to me that play like the old pool hall house cues with super soft elk master blue tips both of which I or any player can spin the living shit out of them. I also held Efrin Reyes played an elk master soft but not sure how true that was. Looking forward to my Kamui Brown S. What’s your thought? Thx.
Sometimes I think the old pool cue makers knew what they were doing. And the heck with this low deflection stuff. Joss cues is right up the road from me. Great company. Great people. I mean great Family owned. Personal touch. Sometimes these big companies are not the best. Let me know your opinion. You are the best. Thank you
I’m currently in the market for a new cue. I’ve been looking at the Joss jn7, and the Balabushka GB 23, 8, and the McDermott g606, etc… Would you suggest the Joss n7 over these others?
My N7 is one of my absolute best-hitting cues. My Adam Balabushka is in the top 5. I feel like the overall build/appearance quality of my N7 is better than that of my Adam Balabushka.
Joss & JW were nice hitting & good looking weathered cues back in my day late ‘80’s early 90’s. I don’t have anything bad to say other than maybe an old tip or too hard tip to make em hit hard. Feel and finess. I still play with and old ass Billy Teeter & Huebler break & I was an and still is a Player. I had a few Mc Dermott’s too & always thought the Meucci’s were pretty for the price but never liked the feel much of most of them. Shaun’s were almost too pretty. Lol.
Dan Janes told me that Joss cues come with LePro tips. I guess he must have a secret stash of them, because they've always seemed great to me, even though LePro tips in general can be somewhat inconsistent.
That’s really interesting you mention that because those are the tips I used on all my pool sticks back in the day. about 3 years ago I put a Kamui in my playing cue to try it I think I went with like a medium hard to be similar to the LaPro I found a nice comparison chart on tips. I have got used to it fairly similar feel but with the layered leather & I actually just bought a pack of 5 LaPro & put them on one of my kids cues & my break cue. They looked & felt & feel like original LaPro. I’ll go back to LaPro on my playing cue when it’s time comes.
@@tomburns890 I switched back to LePro early in 2023. I'd played with various layered tips for 20 years, and liked them a lot at first, but then I started having serious delamination issues, no matter what brand I'd try. Eventually I gave up and went back to using single-layered tips like a caveman.
I feel like there's more to a good hit than hitting hard. To me, the Joss cues all have a fantastic hit. Not simply a hard hit, but a solid and controllable and consistent hit. I'm not sure how much more detail I can provide. So much about a cue's hit is in the hands of the shooter, just like so much about artwork's beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I owned a Joss West briefly. Never had it in my possession though. Won it in a raffle, saw that it was way too fancy for me, and sold it right away. Joss West is still on my bucket list.
@@heginschristianstrong7707 If I could find a shaft that hit fantastic and was low squirt, I'm sure I'd buy it. The CF shafts meet those needs, but I'm not quire willing to drink the CF Kool-Aid yet.

It’s odd to put a black color wrap on COM cue white/black spec or even white/green spec. Is the correct movie look
True, but I wasn't trying to have a COM cue, just a cue that I liked. I don't like nylon or linen wraps anymore.

Wondering if you've played with the Thor hammer joss break cues at all. They are currently on sale and looking to get into one.
I have not. I've never really had a purpose-built break cue unless you count my 25oz Rage cue, and I don't really count that.
