- Attended the 2019 Chelsea swapmeet today with EMI (Shortwave girl) and Paul Locke, my cousin from Georgia. A great time. Attendance was low, however everyone was friendly and there were some good finds. I enjoyed seeing folks coming up to Emi, identifying her TH-cam status. She was very happy. Good to see her appreciating this old hobby. I hope to keep her involved. Yes, it is a dying hobby, but I bet you would like it, if you tried. We need more joining the ranks.
Emmy really loves you. Bored silly but she keeps smiling for grandpa. What a sweetheart.
I had a great time there and Terry always the Gentleman answered all my questions about amateur radio.

WA6YBN was my 7th & 8th grade class rooms call sign. The Teacher was Loyd Brubaker and I was one of the students that just never "got it" back then but Mr. Brubaker was so passionate about the Classes he taught. Too bad I was such a not so good of a student and never learned anything really from him (by my own dumb choice) That's what I got from being from a broken home type of family. But I sure remember some of the stuff he used to teach, and thats probably why your channel Terry, peaks my interest so much..... Heck I'm a couple of days from turning 62 and can still remember Mr. Brubaker telling the stories about relaying radio signals from the parking lot at school ( Murray School in China Lake Ca. )about some big Earthquake or natural disaster back then and that was always mesmerizing to me......Thanks again man, you be a cool dude!!

I always liked when it was time to pack up. Everyone had their trunk or back open. The boxes of stuff you were unable to sell seemed to fit nicely in their vehicle and hopefully they didn't notice until they got home.
The bestest thing about hamfests is that you can go and visit and become the owner of absolutely NONE of this stuff. However, if you OWN this stuff you can't get rid of it for hell or high water except by donating it.
If you want to keep the ham radio hobbie alive . All the new hams and lots of other hams have gone to digital dmr and yeasu and icom d-star along with useing the dv dongles and the new anytone digital dmr. Witch can now connect to most digital modes from apco phase2 to moto turbo and other digital formats. Along with the new digital hf.qitch has been out for a while.

They still have Hamfests? These anachronistic events always smelled like "old man," and more recently attracted CBers who wanted amps or ten meter radios to modify. Is a ten year old with a smart phone going to find hamming of interest? I think not.
