This makes me cry, it is one of the best creations of the world. Thank you Mike Oldfield xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxox i grew up with your music xoxoxox Thank you for sharing the video xox
There really is something utterly magical about this piece. Oldfield apparently got fed up with it whilst making the recording but I know I will never tire of hearing it. A wonderful composition from start to finish.
Hergest Ridge is in Herefordshire, England. I remember walking it last year on a sunny/misty autumn day, while listening to the whole album, as I went. An amazing and memorable day.
Connaissant parfaitement les albums de Mike Oldfield depuis Tubular Bells, les ayant tous eu depuis les années 73's, je n'avais jamais vu cet Orchestral Hergest Ridge. Superbe.
I bought this album around 1983 when I was only 15. I had Tubular Bells, Ommadawn and Five Miles Out so had to get Hergest Ridge. Loved it then and still love it now. This orchestral version is just superb, thank you so much for posting it.
I first bought this on cd when i was fifteen im fourty two now it still takes me somewhere magical, ive never seen this footage before to see those who created such a sound track to my life so amazing thankyou :)
MOs 1st three albums show a musical intelligence far beyond anything ever heard before or since. They take you on a journey that is so intellectually satisfying. Only the band Yes could deliver anything as close in terms of intelligence and creativity. If not for the Piltdown Man on TB Pt 2, he would have commanded the respect he deserves. Piltdown Man. WTF?
It's funny, as oldfield said in interviews that Hergest Ridge recording got so boring, he and Bedford would rather go outside and fly model planes. He felt he was put under pressure to follow TB.
The music runs continuously for 35 minutes, but youtube will only upload 15 minutes of a video at a time, so there has to be a break somewhere. Part 2 starts long before the end of Part 1, at the beginning of the oboe solo. This was recorded in 1975 after all, long before youtube was invented! (I was the producer/director so you can work out how old I must be....)
scottishwildcat I can attest that through my correspondence with David Bedford he was very happy with the Hergeat Ridge orchestration and we were both perplexed as to why it was not understood nor re-performed. I encouraged David to add glockenspiel to the start of the Tubular Bells orchestration but he clarified that his vision was for it to be deliberately more removed from the original with a purer orchestra treatment, to kindly make the point that it is a strong work in itself. Julian.

What an unbelievable upload. My most loved album for the past 40 years.I am so thankful for what I have just seen.
Absolutely brilliant. Bedford - the legend, conducting one of the most beautiful pieces Oldfield´s ever created.

Years waiting for this....Excellent! ....Thanks for sharing!!!
Wow, didn't know this existed, many thanks for sharing! :-)
Hard to fathom these two geniuses in the same performance. David Bedford conducts Mike Oldfield.
Not the first time this happened though. Bedford, Kevin Ayers, and Oldfield were previously together in a band called The Whole World.
musica de otra dimension, recuerdos entrañables
It's a beautiful part of the United Kingdom...worth moving to and....... retiring to!
I went to Kington where he lived for a couple of years. It's my version of Mecca.
Beautiful, thanks for sharing, jim
It's WONDERFUL !!!

Its good but, Part 1 ending during the best bit of orchestral solo's .. really..

Obviously I'm not old enough. Next year I'll be 75.
Works better than Orchestral Tubular Bells, but Mike really wasn't a fan of either orchestral version, I seem to recall.
