I dunno, I think it works better that his powers come from magic. Marvel got really weird with the kinds of powers characters could develop through mutation. Fast healing? Fine. Telepathy? Fine. Growing bird wings or devolving into a blue furred ape creature or a human with reptilian characteristics? Ok. Laser eyes? Eh. Magnetism? Eh. Weather control? Eh. Charging items with explosive force? Huh? In order for a mutation to give a human an evolutionary advantage the genes for the mutation need to already exist, and then find conditions that favor them in an evolutionary way. There was never a gene for laser eyes, and in fact that trait would make you less survivable from an evolutionary standpoint as you can't pass on your genes easily. The same would be true for "infinite momentum" as you would crush or tear apart any sexual partners you interact with. I know powers are picked mainly for their "cool factor" and comics are all fantasy anyway, but the kinds of things Marvel attributes to mutation are often just silly. It is better to have a magical reason for people to gain powers like interaction with an Infinity Stone or something because then you don't really to explain it.
Actually I think Jug is one of those characters that no longer defined by his powers. Cain Marko the person behind Jug has grown way past of being a incredibly powerful but an angry stupid brute. He has seen plenty of hardship and has reformed to be a hero more than once. He has completely lost his powers and was scorned by Cyttorak more than once, he suffered humiliation and even torture at the hands of Cytorrak and others. At one of his lowest points when he was powerless, battered, broken and in hospital and needed help the most, even then his own brother Xavier didn't want to help him anymore. Yet even after that when he had nothing left, no powers, no family he realized the error of his ways and yet still did not give up he believed that he must try to right the wrong he had done and do what he could.
Am I crazy or did Onslaught not completely trash him? I remember as a kid, onslaught just plucking the gem out and professor x's part of onslaught taking great glee in it
@@hansolo631 You might correct. As far as I could find there were 2 major events when Jug and Onslaught faced off. (could be more but I couldn't find more) First time it was Uncanny X-Men (1963) #322 when Onslaught was first introduced as a character. The comic showed That Jug's body was "hurled" from Canada to New Jersey. It is unspecified if it was a punch or some other method. Jug was KO'd for a short while, he recovered in a shortly but the story mentions Jug was still weakened because Beast, Bishop and Psylocke managed to almost KO Jug again and otherwise Jug would barely feel their attack. Jug accepted defeat as he was terrified of Onslaught and warned everyone about the danger. Second time was X-Men (1991) Issue #54. In this scene Cain Marko was called by Jean to find out Onslaught's true identity because it was hidden in his mind. Note that Jug wasn't wearing his helmet in this entire comic to allow Jean to enter his mind. Just at the moment they find out it was Xavier Onslaught awakens or possibly just reveals himself from hiding. Jean tells Jug that he is in grave danger and needs to run. Jug however on the way out Cain decided to help his brother but the Xavier Mansion rooms and stairs seems to being to warp around him, we do not know if this was psychic attack or reality warping. Jug goes to Xavier's room saying that he is sorry for everything he had done and he wants to save Xavier but only find Xavier's room trashed and Xavier gone. Then Onsalught's hand grabs Jug from behind and holds him up taunting him that he can't kill Jug as long as he has the gem of Cyttorak and so Onslaught uses his power to rip the gem out of Cain Marko, Marko was visibly in great pain in the process and then Onslaught simply dropped Marko's body body to the ground who was still alive but still in pain and the comic ends there. It is not shown what happened to the gem nor Cain Marko afterwards. After Onslaught gets defeated there is a lot reality warping happen that returns the devastated world back to normal so we can only speculate that Jug was also returned to normal after that. That is all I could find.
Yea I remember those. I think the second one was drawn by Joe Maduira because I remember Jean looking really anime-sexy. I also think having him be defeated by Onslaught so easily is a bit of a jobbernaught showing, but maybe Onslaught is alot more powerful than I think he was@@ProtonCannon
@@hansolo631 Yeah ,it was a jobbernaut role. If we really must speculate then think there might be something with the detail that Cain Marko and Charles Xavier are half-brothers. Maybe that had a role to play in it Or that Jug knew that psionic/psychic attacks are his greatest weakness and he faced this overpowering otherworldly horror that was a purely psychic entity which clearly terrified Jug. This is why I usually consider that superpowers are not just basic math like 1 + 1 = 2 It is better to have many nuance to them, characters have weaknesses and strengths there are plot circumstances and so on. This is why comics need good writing.
The Unstoppable part is from the gem of Cytorak. Colossus also has been a herald of Cytorak, and was known as the Unstoppable Colossus. Once you are chosen by Cytorak you get Unstoppable added to your name 😂
An other weakness the Juggernaut has is when he has too much momentum he has difficulty stopping or changing direction. So a lot of the time people just step out of the way. It can get so bad he can run himself into space lol. This also means if you get him spinning on the spot, he can get dizzy and pass out. Hulk uses this to beat him
reminds me of my rottweiler. She could run as fast as taller, sleeker dogs like husky's and german shepards but couldnt stop or turn. She's got the grace and agility of a runaway freight train so when playing with other dogs they'd stop or turn and she'd go flying past them. One time she ran face first through a wood fence and left a hole in it like a Looney Tune
I had a lot of fun with this toy, growing up. Never knew how interesting his back-story was, wow! Loved him in the cartoon, those were the best episodes.

he's almost invincible and can never tire, grow old, die of hunger, breath under water, fast regenerative healing, plus his powers were greatly increased so that makes him a feared threat opponent in the marvel universe

I first saw Juggernaut in Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends. It was the episode when Ice Man and Firestar who are mutants went with Spidey to see the X-Men. Juggernaut who had the 80s Hulk growl attacked them all. The only way they defeated him was Spidey removing his helmet and Professor X stunning his mind and body. Juggernaut has since made a skullcap to wear under his helmet to protect his mind. He’s one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe.
Same! That was my first with Jug. Back when Spidey was sometimes ostracized by the X-men for not being a mutant but getting his powers through weird science. He was eventually made an honorary member but I remember a few episodes where he was sad he couldn’t join the club 😂 That was a great story arc that I’ve never seen since!
How can you forget DR Strange favorite spell is the Crimson Bands of Cyttorak, Juggernaut and other magical beings channel this guy's power to cast spells that's how powerful Cyttorak is. Also, one plot point that has not been achieved or I missed it. Is that there are 7 gems for 7 gods of their dimension and once all 7 are found there is to be a fight to the finish between the gem holders and the winner wins the dimension (earth) for their master whether they know it or not. Since the 7 gods were to powerful, they would destroy earth possibly the whole dimension.
I’m really hoping that they have an arc in the MCU dedicated to the 7 gems and the battle that comes from them. Would make a great saga IMO. Hell, we don’t know any details about the Mutant Saga for phase 7 and onwards. Maybe that’s what they’ll go for! (Very unlikely, but I can hope lol)
@@Marcustheseer No, it's an object created by Cytterak... HOWEVER, there are 6 other items created by the other outer gods that are in constant warring with Cytterak, so the 7 objects could be used as the mcguffins of a saga (ie in place of the Infinity Stones, the supposed Kang Rings/bands, etc)
That's why Juggernaut needs his own movie A lot of people think that he's a mutant and he's not he's the step brother of Charles Xavier because he's one of their biggest arch-nemesis next to Magneto I think it would be a great movie
You constantly showed clips of him fighting Colossus and mentioned that Cyttorak can simply decide to withdraw the powers from the host. Could've mentioned the instance in which Colossus became his avatar. Quite possibly the strongest version of the Juggernault (even if not the one shown performing the craziest feats, but it would have all those same capabilities added to Colossus' existing ones)
It's kind of silly because classic Juggernaut was already invulnerable and could call upon limitless strength. So Colossus's powers add nothing to that except window dressing. Like the video said, you can't get stronger than infinity...
No, the juggernaut is not a mutant when he first came to comics he was what they called an altered human, which means he has a human being, but he found a job at the gym with sitter rack, and that transformed him into the juggernaut
Can't really remember the back story, but it has something to do with a gemstone. Juggy is what is known as an "altered" human. No he isn't a mutant. This was a great point of contention between me and my wife when Juggy's power was cancelled out by Leech. Leech can only cancel out mutant (genetic) powers, Leech cannot cancel alter humans like Capt America, Winter Soldier, Spidey, etc.
Basically Juggernaut is Hulk in permanant mode. But in the power wise he is weak against hulk. To make juggernaut almost invincible, you have to put him in the hulk buster suit made by iron man. The design itself of hulk buster is heavily inspired by juggernaut, stan lee himself has mentioned it. So in some other multiverse if the juggernaut is actually a good character aka a hero and if he gets enhancement from iron man, this dude can become a seriously a very very strong and powerful character in marvel universe!
Cain Marko may be human but he is deeply connected with mutants for most of his life, like his stepbro, his best friend, and the kids he's cared for like Squidboy and Zola... all that plus he's currently a citizen of Krakoa.

Well Cain Marco isn't even the Juggernaut avatar at it's strongest (That goes to Trion) so are we talking old school op Dr. Strange? or the water down current version.

A magic gem turns him into a hulk like avatar of the demon/deity cytorak. His powers are not DNA or gene based mutation. His powers are fully supernatural as in magically altered.
When I watched juggernaut punch gladiator in the chest back in the early 90's as a kid on the animated TV series. And gladiator just tossed him across the ocean. Anything I believed about juggernaut definitely changed from that moment. I didn't think nobody could do that to him. Idk that memory always stuck with me about juggernaut.
For me it was an old copy of Spiderman, he he was hanging off Juggys back trying to stop his rampage after what Juggy did to madame web Juggy was just walking through buildings, shaking Spidey off, Spidey had to walk him into a wet concrete foundation pour to stop him😂
"Immovable Object" It would be similar if Juggs ran into Blob. Actually, no; that would just tear up what Blob was standing on and carry it and him with. Gladiator's stability goes all the way to the center of the planet (galaxy).
Very nicely done! A well spoken, detailed explanation, delivered with a smooth buttery voice. I don't find that often, when I look for comic origin videos. Lovely! ♥
if juggernaut's son inherited his powers, does that mean that the gem physically altered his genes to become a mutant so that those genes can be inherited by his offsprings?
In Marvel Team Up 150, Juggernaut retrieved the Gem of Cyttorak & gave it to Black Tom Cassidy for his birthday. Black Tom received the power of the Juggernaut, but only half. Cain lost half his power & was reduced in size. Shenanigans & a good fight ensued, Juggernaut took the gem again & his full powers returned. He then threw the Gem of Cyttorak into space so no one could ever take his powers again.
my all time fave 90s x-men animatied series moment when Jugg gives the Gladiator a hard strike to the mid-section, it did absolutely *NOTHING* to the Gladiator😆
Juggernaut’s other weakness is he’s kind of an idiot. As time gone on he’s smartened up but for the most part he falls for the dumbest traps. It makes sense for his character because he’s so one tracked mined. Also I wish you played the clip from the x-men animated series of him driving the car. You started it but didn’t show it, it’s so goofy 😂😂😂
It’s good you are explaining this to people who don’t know. Spoiler alert, he is not a mutant. He found a magical item after he fell into a cave as an archeologist.
It amuses me to witness the immense strength possessed by certain characters, like the juggernaut. Despite being resistant to various toxins and diseases, it is ironic that he transforms into a zombie in an alternative universe.
Got kicked out of the Movie Theater while trying to watch X-Men The Last Stand because I said something similar after Juggernaut ran in the Wall and was stopped, maybe I said it a little bit too loud, but it really annoyed me.
@@GBZOholika81 Dude same, most film directors don't care about what makes a character have that extra bit of charm, for some reason him being magic completely separate from the usual X-Men forte of robots, aliens, and mutants.
Fairly new to comics myself but having heard the information in this video I can't help but wonder if Juggernaut beats Superman 1v1. If his only real weakness is mental attacks and that isn't really something Supes is known for. But if both of them have near infinite potential limits. It seems that Superman would have to kill him with 1 move/blow. Which I guess in theory would be possible since Superman could just fly him into space and throw in into a black-hole?
Theoretically if a greater being of some sort could block the transfer of power from Cyttorak (or even kill Cyttorak) then Juggernaut would quickly find himself powerless...
"Juggernaut can even withstand the extremely high gravitational strength of Earth's core" (7:12). I think you have been reading too many comic books if you think the Earth's core has extremely high gravitational strength. If we were able to drill a hole all the way to the Earth's core and a person descended it the gravitational strength due to the Earth would actually decrease as he approached the core and would be zero at the core. This is because the layers of Earth above him would be pulling in opposite directions and would cancel out. If you want to consider extremely strong gravitational fields you should consider white dwarfs, neutron stars and black holes.
I almost laughed when I learn Juggernaut’s power is magical. I’ve seen Magic-users cast spells and shoot energy blasts. But Juggernaut’s power’s are superstrength and durability and can ram through almost anything?
@Gabe Mark That make sense now. Some people use magical energy or magical items to enhance their physical abilities and/or their weapons and armor. And even though they can cast some spells, they are more good at physical attacks.
I feel like if that’s true then that would explain the one thing that never came up during this video even though they showed the footage of him busting through the walls chasing after the girl that can phase through walls. The reason she had him chasing her was because that other mutant dampens or stops other mutant powers in his presence. And juggernaut knocked himself out by hitting the wall because he was in the same room with him. I guess it depends what the supposed abilities are of the kid with the dampening powers. If it’s dampening mutant powers, then he must be a mutant.
@@brianb6653 In the movies, that's all he was; a mutant. No magic involved. The comics tend to be far more convoluted. Movie writers like to keep things simple.

His first appearance was not in X-Men but Dr Strange because his power comes from demon cytorak who lives in his own dimension. Clearly that's the mystic magic department which belongs to Dr Strange and cytorak is his enemy. I've seen the comic book and it predates the X-Men comic. I friend of mine was a grand master fanboy and had comics that most would sell their soul for half his collection. He'd been collecting for a long time and was in his 60s.

Laser eyes? Eh. Magnetism?
@@jon-580 Comics have done a lot to explain where powers and abilities come from. Both Marvel and DC. I just enjoy the ride mostly.
(could be more but I couldn't find more)
First time it was Uncanny X-Men (1963) #322 when Onslaught was first introduced as a character.
Always loved this character ever since I was a kid. The Unstoppable Juggernaut such a cool name and powers to boot.
The Unstoppable part is from the gem of Cytorak. Colossus also has been a herald of Cytorak, and was known as the Unstoppable Colossus. Once you are chosen by Cytorak you get Unstoppable added to your name 😂
@@dariynfleming5415 oh cool. Thanks for the fact man.👍🏾
Juggernaut is one of the best well written characters in the 90s X Men cartoon.
Immune to almost anything, but can succumb to dizziness. 😶
I know, it's like if he trips over, does he go through the planet and out the other side? Or can he run on water?
He also has a hard time with Gladiator 💪😉
So you're saying the INCREDIBLE HULK actually avoids fighting someone? That means that someone is insanely powerful.

Could've mentioned the instance in which Colossus became his avatar. Quite possibly the strongest version of the Juggernault (even if not the one shown performing the craziest feats, but it would have all those same capabilities added to Colossus' existing ones)

Lmbo 😂

Gem
Lol...wtf are you talking about?
Food for though. The word spelling for the stone is gem not gym.
I believe the Gem of Cyttorak is what defines the Juggernaut. That thing altered his body in major ways.
Cain Marko may be human but he is deeply connected with mutants for most of his life, like his stepbro, his best friend, and the kids he's cared for like Squidboy and Zola... all that plus he's currently a citizen of Krakoa.

Case and point that Juggernaut's not a mutant. Just a human mutate after toughing the jewel of Cyttorak to become the unstoppable juggernaut.

I feel like if that’s true then that would explain the one thing that never came up during this video even though they showed the footage of him busting through the walls chasing after the girl that can phase through walls. The reason she had him chasing her was because that other mutant dampens or stops other mutant powers in his presence. In the movies, that's all he was; a mutant. No magic involved. The comics tend to be far more convoluted. Movie writers like to keep things simple.
Juggernaut #2 demonstrated that there's little Marko can do to hurt the Hulk, save knock him down when he's weakened. There's no denying the Juggernaut's strength, but it's still rewarding to see the Hulk vs. Juggernaut power debate finally settled.
Their fights usually either end in a stalemate or Hulk outsmarting him which isn’t too hard
I think the juggernaut needs a fully fledged out movie, such an interesting and deep character.
If that is the source of his powers then kewl, hopefully this post gets more likes so people can see and know.
