Hey Darren as always I really enjoyed watching the trip report and it has become much better compared to when you just started out. I also like the longer videos. Appreciate it🙌🏼
Hi Darren, another great video. I would love being on one of your flights, you are a great pilot with things in order, being retired military I appreciate you being that way because your responsibility. Take care
I always wondered if you guys had deicing capabilities down south. Also, AC is plentiful up here in the north, but you are correct. At 90 degrees, I'm as unhappy as you are at 40 degrees.
Great video again! I assume using single thrust reverser creates a yaw moment that needs to be counteracted by inputting rudder, thus creating extra workload (correct?). So I’m wondering, what’s the reason you chose the single thrust reverser over no reversers at all in a situation where you’d have enough runway distance to safely stop the airplane using just the brakes and no thrust reversers?
Correct on yaw. I ran numbers for both to show the difference. For the actual landing I used idle reverse only on the good side so it was at the ready just in case.
0:40 Do you know if KDFW airport actually ran out of de-ice fluid as was rumored on social media? Also is there plans to upgrade the snow and ice removal equipment at DFW. I find it somewhat ridiculous that they had to cut the arrival rate to 15 planes per hour (according to the FAA National Airspace System) for a class B airport like KDFW. I understand snow and ice storms like this are exceptionally rare, but essentially shutting down a class B airport and the largest hub of Kirkland isn’t really a great idea.
Everything I’ve heard is they ran out of fluid to clear the runways. They had salt to clear the roadways. Investing in more equipment that’s only needed a few days every few years might be tough to pass on a budget
Hello Darren, my name is Joaquin. I am a GA pilot student. I am a traffic signal technician. A father of three kids, actually teenagers now, a husband to an American sign language translator, a guitar player, a knife maker, and a plane spotter. Thank you for the transparency of your videos. I have never seen a pilot who shares full disclosure of their pay and how they get there. What they do to do it? Maybe one day I'll get there. I really appreciate your content.
@unwrappedbox of all the things I said, the only thing you got out of this is this? It was an observation. A person who gets offended never grows intellectually because it sees everything as an insult and not as an opportunity to grow. In your case. You got offended for someone else, there is nothing left for you to grow. I am sorry you took offense for someone else for something so minor that was meant as an observation. Thanks for taking the time to respond and I hope you have a good day.
Hey Darren, Yes sir you are right about we have a law that if you don't remove the snow and don't have winter tires on before Dec 1 well lets just say don't get caught because these are real fines. Just this past weekend on my way home the cops stopped every car to check the tires. Is the DFW- EZE a flight everyday ?
Really enjoyed this and can’t help but wonder are you starting to look forward to going to London?Curious , how is the EV working out with snow and ice? Looks just fine from your videos. Also enjoy your Costco reviews from Korea.. Thanks for everything Darren.
London is just okay. I go twice next month. The Equinox was no issue in the snow/cold. I hope to make an update video soon. Thank you for the kind words
Hi Darren! Some airlines have Escape Routes in case you need to do an Emergency Descent over the Andes or other mountainous terrain, do you have escape routes or just follow the published Grid Mora?
So when you arrive almost an hour early like that, does the third pilot to get rest have a shorter rest time? Like if original planned flight time was 9 hours, each pilot gets 3 hours rest but if it ends up being an 8 hour flight does it go 3-3-2? Just wondering how that works
Great question. The planned flight time is what is used for breaks not scheduled. Once airborne the relief pilot gets a print out with our estimated arrival including current winds and routing. That number is used for when the breaks end. The relief pilot then makes a start time (normally within 5 minutes of the print out) and divides the time up (I use an app). If we fly fast, get short cuts or better than anticipated winds the third break could be but short. On my current trip they got a longer break due to weather issues.
I find it odd that they schedule the red eye to Argentina to get in at 10:30 local. If they scheduled it to get in from 6-8am local time it would make more sense for a red eye for Pax and slightly less grueling for you.
You know what would make those night flights better or easier, if after your rest you could take a shower in the airplane before going back to the flight deck.
Love your videos-especially when the family is included. Kansas is not flat! Sometime in summer, take the family to either MHK or ICT and drive K-177 through the beautiful Flint Hills of Kansas. While in ICT explain to the girls why it’s called the Air Capital .😊🛩️
I thought you were holding line this mos?.... maybe that's next mos & I misunderstood....or maybe you didn't like the available line openings. As for the Arlington snow.... hopefully that will curb the global warming fears...that & the fact the Florida coastline maps have not been needed to be redrawn by 2020 as Gore was telling us in the early 90's > but I digress 😜
@geekontheflightdeck > me neither...I stay away from > environmental issues a different story...& when politicians pretend to be scientists it's no bueno
I do not know what it is about your videos, maybe that you feel like a genuine person, but it makes me keep coming back :)
Thank you. I’m just a guy that is fortunate enough to fly airplanes and can kinda edit videos.
Yay!! Love to see a Buenos Aires video. Thanks for uploading.
Just saw you board my flight from Madrid to Dallas. Very cool.
Are you on my flight? Sorry I missed you.
Ah I reread it. I'm on your flight. Ha. Welcome aboard. I'm the relief pilot. You'll see me through the jet bridge when you board
Yes. All good.
@@geekontheflightdeck well hopefully the weather over Ireland doesn’t impact too much. It’s cool to see people I watch on TH-cam in real life.
@jasonvaughn513 it’s going to be a little turbulent over that. I’ll be sleeping through it hopefully. First break is mine.
Don’t even need to watch and I already know this is going to be a great vid. Thanks do all you do Darren for us AvGeeks
Hey Darren as always I really enjoyed watching the trip report and it has become much better compared to when you just started out. I also like the longer videos. Appreciate it🙌🏼
Thanks. I much prefer landscape over portrait like I did on TikTok.
And another vote for warm Shipley’s donuts. Little sweet pillows of doughy perfection. Melt in your mouth.
Hey Darren they closed Weiser airport within the last 5 years! It’s now storage and office space… Carls BBQ and the VFW still are there.
That makes sense why I haven’t been able to find it.
Hi Darren, another great video. I would love being on one of your flights, you are a great pilot with things in order, being retired military I appreciate you being that way because your responsibility. Take care
Great video. Most weekends I’m home I surprise the wife with Shipley’s. From a price and quality standpoint it cannot be beat.
WAS WAITING FOR THE VID LFGGGG

I was in Frankfurt, Germany last year. That will be a fun trip. It is a nice city.
5:48 as an Ohio resident, no it is not mandatory to clear snow and ice off the top of the car. I don’t personally. *other states may vary.
A lot of people up north don’t clean off their cars too
That summer sun compared to Texas right now would be nice
Had some snow in Jacksonville Florida. 1989 is the last time it snowed here. So yeah pretty uncommon. 😂

@ Being prepared just in case makes total sense, check. Appreciate it, thanks!
33 people on the flight back! Sounds like a non-revver’s dream
Another vote for Round Rock donuts as I sit here and eat number 4. Don’t judge me, it’s supper 😎
I used to gets Hurts Donuts in Fort Worth till they closed down. Those were extreme gluttony. Ha. No judgement zone!
SA is worth it if you had morning departures, not night. And don't forget to try the Alfajor!

@@unwrappedbox no hard feelings bro. There is too much of this going on in the world as it is. If it makes you happy I will remove my comment.
@@AirplaneMode-pi9oc I’m even more offended now bro
Do you have to charge your iPad during your break? If I don’t keep mine plugged in, it will be at 50% after about an hour lol
For night flights no. Daytime flights (normally flights back to the United States) yes on the 200. On the 300 there are power outlets

Is the DFW- EZE a flight everyday ?
I believe it operates daily
What's the current state of deicing fluid? How long does it last before you need to do it again?
Depends on multiple factors including outside temp, brand of fluid, weather conditions and of only deice or deice and antiice fluid are used

The snow up north caused a lot of issues too. EWR and JFK atc were losing their minds.
Hi Darren! Some airlines have Escape Routes in case you need to do an Emergency Descent over the Andes or other mountainous terrain, do you have escape routes or just follow the published Grid Mora?
We have escape routes for places all over the world. I don’t show them as they are company property
What was the little clock thing you showed at the end…it showed 11:53 on top and 10:20 on the bottom…it was on the flight deck
It is used for UTC/Zulu Time, a chronograph for timing various things and an elapsed timer for flight time
@ cool, thanks
hope to see you one day @ FRA! that a senior route? would love to know.
Fairly senior due to the high credit. One day!
Are you concerned with AA's bad financials ? Considering the other airlines reported decent numbers..
I do not comment on anything related to policy or financials as I have no control over them

What are your thoughts on EZE vs SCL for places to visit? Would you visit either if not for work?
The cities are fine. I’d be happy to visit for exploring. I haven’t done research on tourist stuff for either to be honest
Is it the Paulista Ave. in the background? Loved it! Thanks for this amazing video, you rock!
Yeah I was thinking the same. That’s the MASP building
Question: Do the pilots have to eat different meals while in flight?
That rule varies by airline. Many took that rule out during Covid.
Question, on your 401K does the 17% that your employer contributes include the Per Diem and Intl Override?
Just hourly wages
