- This is one of the songs from the experimental album FIVE by Calcutta based Indian urban folk artist Arko Mukhaerjee
Paal Uraiya De is a beautiful folk song from Bengal written by the folk song-writer Jasimuddin, often recognised by the title Polli Kobi or the rural poet. It is a boatman's song in a two and four rhythm characteristically similar to several other working class folk music forms in it's time signature. This version aims at building a bridge between Bengali working class music and Appalachian and Bluegrass music from America by incorporating the bluegrass time signature into the song's structure and using the mandolin to give it the Appalachian soundscape.
