My mother though born in Maharashtra spent her entire childhood in Kankavli(in Sindhudurg district) near Sawantwadi in Konkan of Maharashtra. So even I ended up spending nearly all of my summer vacation there, those were the golden days. Even though my mother tongue is Marathi, Konkani language(all the dialects but specifically the one spoken in Sindhudurg) has always seemed very beautiful and mesmerising to me
Near my grandfather's house, there was a neighborhood which had a sizeable Goan community. I have no idea how they ended up there but I won't complain as they added their energetic cultural elements. Few of which were folksongs and folkdances. I remember that people in the village would come together on special occasions where the Goans would also be welcomed warmly. On such instances they would showcase their folksongs, and I remember this, ya ya Maya ya very fondly.
Stumbling across this again(though it's not entirely the original folksong) has made my day and filled me with the nostalgia of those old days in Konkan. This man deserves recognition and respect
Kankavli is almost 2 hours from Sawantwadi. The dialect of Sindhudurg district is Malvani especially as spoken by Hindus. Konkani is spoken in , Goa state, Uttar Kannada district etc.

I saw an old rehearsal video of this awesome group on the Instagram page of the group's bassist Shamik da. I asked him the same that if it is improvisation over Munna Bada Pyaara. Then he told me the history and sent me this video. Super humbled. And this guys are true gems

Thanks a lot for giving the original creators the credit. It's a great Goan folk song which probably every Goan knows. And I feel proud to actually be from the place the song is mentioning, which is Maya (or Mayem in English). The song's chorus says, "Ya ya Maya ya!", which means "Let's go to Maya!" It's a small village, part of a larger town of Bicholim. There is a famous Mayem lake as well, which is a good tourist spot. Anyway, enough of me rambling. Great music man! (butchered the lyrics though, lol!)
