    Sorry to say, after days of researching & watching reviews like this, I paid $49 for the updated 'WiFi version' of this, which claimed to have a 'slim, curved glass screen & metal body', which mine did not. It was very thick & plasticky, no case, had screen protector already applied, and a much larger bezel.
    It also said it has wifi with web browser, which was a top 3 reason I got it, as I really wanted to go on TH-cam for video watching. It has wifi that's totally useless, since there is no way to actually go online. The videos I added via SD card are out of sync, it certainly doesn't play all the formats shown & so far only mp4 video works for me.
    Other things it was supposed to have & DID NOT:
    That cool adapter cord for phone file transfer & the case, FM radio, or dictionary.
    I also got the white one as the pictures showed it more like a silver. Big mistake, it looks like a kid's toy, especially since all models have bright orange buttons now.

    lack of song order other than alphabet. has been known to stop charging after a while, touchy power button, real battery life is only about 5 hours, no drag and drop songs if you're using an SD card you have to preload the songs on the card before using them in the MP3 player.

    • @RynoDBones
      @RynoDBones  4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I have my song file names formatted as album - track# - artist - title, so I hadn’t noticed any sorting issues. In my battery test, I did get about six hours with the screen on most of the time, but my dad is only charging it about once a week - something like 20 to 25 hours of use for him. He basically pushes play and walks. Not sure about what you mean by preload songs? I connected this to my computer with the SD card in the player, and it shows up as two drives...completely drag and drop in that regard. My mother in law picked one up for herself, too and seems to really like it. Sorry you’ve had problems with it, friend.

    • @Dragnmastralex
      @Dragnmastralex 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@RynoDBones the battery is inconsistent then. it will be a gamble to get a good battery. if you drag and drop songs onto the SD card in hard drive mode it will corrupt the files on the card once it reaches a certain memory capacity and you will have to reformat the card. you probably don't notice because you add songs gradually to the card but if you did it in bulk and filled up the card more than half way you would start to notice songs becoming corrupted and the card will stop reading at times. If you however add songs to the card before inserting it into the mp3 player they work just fine.

      @@Dragnmastralex Weird stuff. I always enjoy hearing what other people experience with these no-name devices. So far, I've had pretty decent luck, I guess. I put my entire library of songs on it before I gave it to my dad. Every CD me and my wife (and my parents and her parents) ever owned, we ripped to MP3 a few years ago. As much as I enjoyed this player, I think my favorite of all time is the iPod Classic. I had a Gen 2 that I used constantly. Wouldn't mind getting another of those for myself in the future. Right now, I'm using an iRulu F20 which is a clone of a better known Chinese brand (that I can't think of off the top of my head) that was really popular a few years back. It's great, but navigation leaves a lot to be desired.

      One weird quirk...I was able to connect the one I got my dad to my BT in my car, but we couldn't get it to work in his. The one my mother-in-law got wouldn't connect via BT in any car. Hit and miss quality. I'm going to pin your comment so others can read it when they watch the video.

What I did end up getting was a $60 pre-pay Nokia 3.1 phone that I rooted and put on a custom ROM. With the help of a few apps to hide the phone features, I have a really nice media player that I can also stream with.

    2. Some MP3 players that I’ve come across on the last five seconds of the song it stops playing by fading into nothingness, does this player play the song until the very end what does it fade out in the last five seconds?

    These items are great until the built in batteries can't hold their charge anymore. Then they are next to useless. I have 4 Sony MP4 players. All the batteries are knackered now. I have gone back to using my 1987 Sony Walkman cassette player. Dug it outta my cupboard, inserted 2 batteries, works as good now as it did over 30 years ago. The Bluetooth MP 3 Players should have had separate battery compartments so you can replace the batteries. Then the devices would have worked great.

    No clue exactly WHY this guy is NOW 'ragging' on the TIMMKOO Q5 as it has worked FOR ME as expected for a while now. Read below 🙂.
    I bought mine from Amazon about June of 2020, and people, THIS THING IS GREAT!
    When bought, the info shows a max microSD card size of 512meg. I started off with a 128 microSD card... worked GREAT. Then I went to a 256 card... AWSOME. And NOW i have a ONE TERABYTE!!! I decided to just SKIP the 512 size and GO BIG! lol I am THINKING about going up to a TWO TERRABYTE CARD soon, and even if the device, for some unknown reason, will not 'see' the full card, WHO CARES? I have PLENTY of other devices that can 'see' such a card size.
    I have SO MANY VIDEOS loaded onto the current card! I feel I am now READY for any APOCALYPTIC EVENT regarding needing entertainment during the duller moments when not having to go and gather food & water... lol!
    I don't like the thought of LOOSING data, so on a separate drive (a 2tb SSD), I have a folder named "TIMMKOO microSD CARD BACKUP", and now this folder contains an EXACT copy of the microSD Card that is in the Q5 device! I ALSO have a second microSD Card that is a dupe of the one that is in the device, ready to be swapped in just in case. So, hopefully I will ALWAYS have a backup on a second card and a backup on an SSD. Oh, there was a HUGE sale a while back, and I bought TWO SSDs for about $80 each!!! The drives are by SANYO, a company I have trusted for many years.
    This is a device that almost anyone can afford. Just shop around a bit. Mine cost $50 when purchased in 2020.
    I, Michel J. Gaudet, HIGHLY RECOMMEND this TIMMKOO Q5 device for any and all who want a RELIABLE and GREAT little MP3/VIDEO player, and it has SO MUCH MORE to offer its users.
    The ONLY gripe for me is there is no way to OUTPUT the video image to an external viewing device... sigh. BUT THAT IS IT! This thing has an external headphone jack (YES!), and also Bluetooth for wireless use.

    Not to just dump my own review here, but I got one of these about six months ago. It's been a good (not great) MP3 player with only a few things I'd improve if only I could. First is the BlueTooth. It's not very powerful, and it can't be upgraded to BT5 from 4. Second is the video playback. While it gives a list of formats it supports, the ONLY thing mine will play is MOV files. It does, however do a terrific job with them, be it music videos, or even movies. I have software to convert to MOV from any format, so it's not a really big deal. Lastly, is the playback order. Even on random play it always defaults to the same songs in the same order if you shut it off and restart it. The ONLY thing I've found to change it is to connect it to my PC and either add or delete a file or two. I listen to it through Apple Earpods on the train to work, and at work through an Onn® Rugged mini speaker. The sound is great and it was a great price.

    • @RynoDBones
      @RynoDBones  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I found a workaround for the playlists thing (works on most of these MP3 players…since they all seem to use the same software). I sort my playlists/albums/songs into CD sized folders before I put them on the player. Then, instead of using the music app to play the songs, I go to the file browser, navigate to the folder I want to listen to, and play the files from there. That way it only plays that folder, takes a lot less time to load, and it is sorted how I want it. That’s weird about the videos, though. I only played around with it a little. The Tengsen I got after this played pretty much every type of file. My son and I still trade it back and forth. Great for road trips.

    • @toxicavenger8680
      @toxicavenger8680 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RynoDBones Have you noticed that adding folders slows playback? When I first loaded this player I simply copied folders from my iTunes media folder, and it was horribly slow switching from one track to another. Some folders were three layers deep in the hierarchy. I keep everything on the "top tier" now, and it works pretty seamlessly. Another quirk: When using a BlueTooth speaker (not earbuds), sometimes the playback speed will be about 30% slow. Like an old turntable with a finger dragging along the edge of the record. A reboot will solve it nearly every time, but it's a pain to have to do that when I switch from earbuds to external. Still, overall it's a good player, and it keeps me rocking going to and at work.(Edit) Another thing I discovered purely by accident. You can drag songs right from iTunes into the Explorer or Finder window of the player to add them, and it copies directly.

    • @RynoDBones
      @RynoDBones  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@toxicavenger8680 I actually gave this to my dad right after I made the video. All of his songs are sorted as "\70s\File.MP3," "\80s\File.MP3," etc. So I never noticed anything. I use the Tengsen which is almost identical but it is significantly faster than the Timmkoo. If I'm in the music player trying to load through the directories or play on random, even it slows down. My files are like "\Ryno Collection\Vol 1\CD1\File.MP3," so I do use nested directories. I don't have those issues when I go through the file explorer/browser app, though. At least not as bad. I'm considering just getting one of those $50 no-contract phones from Best Buy and repurposing it just for music. At least I'd be able to do some streaming while on WiFi, too.

      Honestly, for a kid that age this might be a little much.. My son has an old Sansa Clip that he’s pretty proficient at. Also, RCA / Coby make inexpensive ones that are great for kids. When my oldest was that age he actually had a Polaroid MP3 player! Haha. As for music, I have mostly ripped songs from old CDs or transferred from vinyl and cassettes. If you get an old iPod Touch, you can use ripped files or tie it in to an Apple iTunes account. I just know that when my kids would encounter problems with a tech item, it usually ended up in a drawer never being used. This one may not be intuitive enough for a younger child.

      In that case, you’ll want something with a built in DAC. This definitely isn’t it! Honestly, I would suggest trying to find an old LG phone (V20, maybe). Otherwise, some of the Fiio players are great and not overly expensive. I have an iRulu that has a built in DAC and it sounds great. Price isn’t great, though, and the UI isn’t for everyone.

    Hello Ryno, Can you advise me on actual MP3 disc's? I have a huge book (The Bible really big book) on MP3 disc. 8 discs! I want to be able to listen to any portion of the 8 without carrying all the disc's and boom box with. No one today (2021) is aware of the difference of an MP3 disc to that of a regular CD format. And therefore stumped on what to sell me. By choice I have no smart phone device, and no blue tooth.
    My idea is to take the MP3 disc's all 8 of them, that will play on my computer, transfer them to a thumb drive, (there are boom boxes that play thumb drive yes), but I want to SEE what chapter and verse I am with the ability to fast forward or pause or skip entire chapters if I wish. So think I need to end up with a memory card? This TIMMKOO MP3 player with 4"I think would be easier to read the screen/no boom box has that large of screen) Do I transfer on the computer to a memory card that will play on an MP3 player with the visual screen? then axillary plug in the boom box or external speaker? Or get a bluetooth speaker/your full size head phones look great! IS THERE AN EASIER WAY? ~ For a bday gift for husband this week, waited too long to solve this problem. Help if you can! Thank you.

    • @RynoDBones
      @RynoDBones  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you've got the right idea: Transfer the MP3 files from the CDs to your PC then directly to the MP3 player. 8CDs of MP3 files is still only about 7GB and most players come with 8GB to 16GB minimum. (Keep the folders, makes it a lot easier to navigate.) While the Timmkoo is decent, it might be tough to read (it scrolls the titles and the font is small..tough to navigate if you're not used to these types of players.) There's also one called a Tengsen that is very similar, but is better quality overall. BUT....For your use, I think you might want something with a slightly bigger screen. This is a bit older, but it has a larger screen: AGPTek WiFi MP4 Player. Basically a stripped down telephone that only has WiFi. It's an idea, at least, and it can use various other apps from Google including Audible, Spotify, TH-cam, etc as long as you've got WiFi.

    • @RynoDBones
      @RynoDBones  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually, after reading the reviews on it (their smaller 5inch has great reviews), the AGPTek seems to have WiFi issues. You could always get one of those cheap phones from BestBuy and not activate it. Without a SIM card or activation, one of those would be perfect to use as an MP3 player, and the apps would be up to date. There's another TH-camr, ETA Prime, that tests out a lot of those inexpensive phones. You might look up some of his videos.

      I use a program called Tag&Rename. There are others that are supposedly better, but I have used it for years and am very comfortable with it. For single artist albums I use Artist - Album - Track - Title.MP3. Both this and the Tengsen default sort by folder, then File Name (at least for me, with all files on SD card in their own folders).

      I've already given it to my dad, but I'll check the steps next time I'm over there (probably tomorrow) and I'll get back with you. I am pretty sure it's a menu option when you click on a song to add to a playlist. It has built-in playlists, so you can't do *.M3U files. I don't recall if there is a folder structure for playlists when connected to the computer. Once you start messing about in it, it's fairly easy to use overall. My dad, in his 60's, uses it several times a day for a few hours at a time on his walks.

      Built in playlists only, confirmed. You can put songs in from the device and change the order. It's not entirely intuitive, but if you've used older Android apps, it's not that tough. More time consuming than anything, especially with a large number of songs. His files are all sorted into folders, though, so he just selects the folder he wants and plays from there.

      In Windows, it should be drag and drop from your existing files to the player. I keep my files sorted into their own album folders to make things easy to pick through.

      They're are websites that let you convert music videos to MP3. Most are free but have a limit to the number of subs you can convert I'm one day. There's also software that can pull the audio from videos, but it costs money.

      @UCvEklCGgKIFiIHHQrWqwyIg I like the Tengsen because it's a lot faster, more memory, better screen, and a metal housing. I'm working on my video review now. Battery is decent.. About 8hrs watching movies on one charge. But yeah, there is no dictionary.

    I actually just returned this as soon as I found out how small the screen is. Also really not great speaker sound quality. I wasn't expecting THX Dolby digital 3d atmosphere experience, but it'squality it was really underwhelming, compared to my phone. I know, ALOT of these media players are like that; the screen barely goes past 4 or 5, but I like to think a portable media device the size of a smartphone would be much better (ie zune, iPad touch etc.) or at least a phone that's no longer in use / jailbroken.
