Great video, with the herald crest I think the creature on the left looks more like a dragon than a griffin.
Thanks for your comment and watching our video . You may be right.
Unsure if you are aware but Stephen wrote the article with the notes from the show. www.chroniclechamber.com/post/the-walker-crest
@@Chroniclechamber Interesting that was Tony DePaul's intention, because looking at it as a reader, I thought it looked like a 'devil' on one side and Hero the horse on the other (obviously this would make no sense in-universe, but since the 21st phantom has been 'the' phantom of the present, it made sense to me as a homage or a premonition).
Interesting point of view and that would also make sense. Tony DePaul has recently also discussed it on his blog which you can read here: www.tonydepaul.net/the-phantom-origin-myth/
@@Chroniclechamber Thanks for linking - I have found Tony's attention to detail and world building fascinating, including what he considers to be Falk "canon". As he rightly points out in the article you linked, Falk himself frequently contradicted or changed his own lore where it suited his story telling purposes. I remember reading an older Tony DePaul interview recently (maybe on chronicle chamber?) where he stated that he tries to keep in mind (paraphrasing) "would Falk do this?". I found that interesting too because Falk whilst a genius and incredible story teller, did not seem to care for long term story planning. Some of Tony DePaul's best contributions to the Phantom in my opinion have come from his meticulous planning of fully fleshed-out characters, with story arcs seemingly planned years and years in advance, such as the Python, the Nomad, and Captain Savarna. I don't think Falk, for all his amazing story telling, would ever have done this - his approach to fan-favourites like the Singh pirates and Sala would suggest this. I think Tony DePaul's approach does a great (just different) service to the Phantom canon.
You have no arguments from us regarding your points. There are several phan theories that Lee Falk wrote less than he was credited for. Alfred Bester is long theorised that he ghosted during World War two when Lee was working for the state. In the 1950's some would argue that Wilson McCoy also wrote stories instead.
Lee Falk's main love was theatre and the Phantom was just a pay packet to help finance his theatre love.
You may be interested that we are interviewing Tony DePaul next weekend for our 300th podcast. If you have any questions you would like to be asked, please let us know.
