Any aspiring S&C coaches who stumble across this video - please take with a pinch of salt. This is like any subject you study at University. Most graduates are like 21 years old? Earning 20k a year at 21 isn’t a bad deal. I have friends who did an Accounting degree and earned 18k in his first job. I did S&C undergrad and a Performance Analysis MSc. I also did CSCS and UEFA coaching badges along with learning 2 languages. Not once did I think about money because I love football and waking up and going to the performance centre and going to games home and away travelling the United States is my dream job. I can also confirm I earn more money than what is projected on this video with less than 10 years experience. So take with a pinch of salt. If you do an S&C degree or even post grad and work in a commercial facility, expect low pay. But if you utilise your knowledge, and push for progression then you will get out what you put in. I have never done internships for no pay. I got paid for every match I did analysis for, it wasn’t much but I was still paid which covered expenses but tbh I would have happily done it for free because I understood how valuable experience is. So don’t turn your nose at unpaid work, it will pay off in the end. The trick is to keep searching for jobs and keep working to progress your CV and skills. To conclude, if you want to be an S&C coach especially in elite sport, then absolutely go for it. Forget supply on demand. Yes there are many S&C coaches out there, but most end up working in gyms training gen pop because they don’t apply themselves or they give up. In my head, I knew there wasn’t an influx of coaches that had UEFA badges, who are bilingual who had premier league experience on their CV. So there isn’t a high supply of good experienced coaches. There’s a high supply that don’t do anything with their knowledge.

My personal careerw was exactly this! 👆😮
BSc (3 years) + UKSCA accrediation + MSc (1 year) - volunteered at rugby league academy + paid (per session) job for netball team.... all dried up after twelve months. Im now a senior physio earning nearly double. Meanwhile a colleague is whoring himself + own gym to earn a living to sustain family etc.

Yep, it's rough for Strength & Conditioning coaches! I'm glad I switched career, but I really hope the S&C industry improves how they treat employees. Unfortunately this is the result of a skewed supply and demand!

I was toying with going down that route, was going to go to uni as a mature student to study S&C. I looked at the jobs on the UKSCA and professional football clubs wanted a BSC, an MSC and UKSCA accreditation and they were offering 25k per year, that was in London. I quickly changed my mind now I work in drug and alcohol earning way more than that without a degree. It’s crazy.

It sounds like the supply and demand of S&C coaches is still unbalanced. I wish Universities were more transparent regarding job prospects. I'm glad you have found a career path that meets your needs!

Why were you toying with the idea if you don’t mind me asking? You must have been interested in working in sport. I have those qualifications and work in football, and I earn more than 25k. Alot more infact. 25k is a graduate salary. I got into football because I love football. I love getting up in a morning and going to the performance centre, going to matches and seeing our players flourish. I couldn’t care less about how much i’m paid and I never have. I have made money on property. If you want to earn big money right from the start, do a medical degree and go into dentistry or something. I would just rather go to work and love my job.

@@Daniel-ps8wn yes I enjoyed working in sport, but I approached it as a mature student, so I had bills to pay, so the money meant more to me than you. It’s great that you’ve made money on property, well done you, and you can go and work and not care about the money. But not everyone is in the same position. So I chose a profession where I could make more money than the football clubs were offering. I still have an interest in sport but I’m not one dimensional, I have other interests aswell.

@@Daniel-ps8wn also, if you hadn’t earned money from property and this was your sole income, you’d definitely care about how much you get paid. If you don’t mind me saying, you sound very pompous.
