ESCAPE TO THE CABIN: Exploring Ontario's Colourful Autumn Wilderness - Canoe & Hiking Trip

In this video we take you along on Caitlin's Birthday trip to her remote off grid family cabin in Northern Ontario, Canada. The first full day out here we set off in the morning with the goal of reaching a remote lake and wilderness conservation reserve, only accessible by bush whacking. We paddled through a few lakes battling high winds and then paddled down a narrow channel and creek while in awe of the beautiful autumn fall colours that surrounded us. This year in particular has been exceptionally magnificent for fall colours in Ontario. We also answered some of your questions you submitted on the community thread.
The following day we paddle to an island a few lakes away from the cabin and enjoyed our evening cooking dinner over the campfire and taking in all of the beautiful sights and sounds. By the time we put out the fire and packed up to go home it was already getting dark so we paddled by moonlight and through thick and thin patches of rain back to the cabin. It looks dark on the camera and on your screen of course but I want to assure everyone that our eyes did adjust and we could still see fairly well. Of course I could see the tree line and horizon line but I also could see the buoys, and the waters in front and was able to navigate around obstructions safely. If you do not know the water you are paddling, I do not recommend paddling at night. With that being said, when done safely, paddling during the evening is my favourite. The moonlight and the reflections of stars on the water on a clear night is something I think everyone should experience at least once.

Nature beckons us to go hiking and fills our thoughts at any time of the year! Once you realize that you can no longer stay at home. You literally rip off your jacket and backpack from the hanger and go into the woods. Where there are no people, where the smells of wet pine needles and smoke mix and silence reigns. The forest accepts us as we are. And we are his guests, not the hosts. I am grateful to you for your interesting video!

What a beautiful time of year, every year for Thanksgiving I go with my family close to Parry Sound "the 30,000 Islands". It's busier there than when I was young but it's still spectacular views and good fishing! Thanks for the video!

On your birthday video of last year the autumn change was not that far along or widespread. Yet this year Mother Nature’s display is absolutely stunning.
What a magnificent way of celebrating a birthday at a remote cabin on a lake, no better spot in my opinion. If it was me I would have to be dragged away from there while I was kicking and screaming.

@@TheTimberLife P.S. speaking as a woodsman and former fire tower spotter....please become best friends with the color red for your outerwear in September, October and early November. I once had a lady visit my fire tower during deer season wearing a light brown fur jacket which sent cold chills up my spine. I gave her a disposable orange vest to wear for her return hike.
@@billstarr9396 100% ... we usually wear orange toques in the fall during hunting season but had stupidly forgot them. Trustin said all that to the camera but it didn’t make my final edit. But our wardrobe was definitely one of the reasons we turned back and kept making a lot of noise on the trail.

Such an incredibly beautiful place, it makes me miss upstate New York very much. I miss canoeing through a narrow river through the forest very much. Thank you for sharing your experience. Makes me happy to see it but breaks my heart at the same time! I wish I had enough money that I could visit the Northeast again. But I always have to work to survive.
We know we so lucky to be able to explore these wild places… I hope you too can return to these lands one day ! ♥️

Can't tell you how much I liked this video. Grew up in the Northeast US and now live in Washington St. We just don't get the fall colors out here. Loved all the natural sounds without any background music. Spent many years in a canoe and this brought back many memories. Thanks so much for sharing such a peaceful weekend adventure.

What a fun adventure. I hope you had a hard copy of a map for that area. If you lose your GPS Signal, you are up a creek, with only your paddle. What a beautiful hike. Cabin life is the best! We live in a cabin up in the Appalachian Mountains. My wife and I have hiked over 18,000 miles in various mountain ranges over the years. We still hike weekly. GOD is an amazing artist!

Pump reminds me of our old cabin. Brought a Mason jar of water to prime the pump. Then kept it full incase we lost prime. Awesome day and night adventures.

Just subscribed. I spent my early years growing up in Kingston Ont until my family returned to the UK in 1969. But even at that young age I still have fond memories of family camping trips to Algonquin. I try to return to Canada every 4 - 5 years to visit friends and on my next trip I would love to spend some time back in Algonquin, away from computers, phones etc, so I get quite sentimental & slighty emotional when I watch your videos.
