The Chrysler Pacifica *never* shared a platform with the Mercedes-Benz R class. This is RWD, the Pacifica was FWD. In fact, the Pacifica you're referring to was 100% Chrysler.
Thank you for the clarification. I couldn't imagine anything shared a platform with the original Pacifica
Yea, they look similar and you’d think that would be the case since Chrysler was still owned partially by Mercedes at the time, but your right
The Pacifica only had MB rear suspension
I really do not understand Zack lately. He's been messing up on his info a lot. I like him and his reviews, but man oh man.
@@Jazc-mp889 when it comes to pure info redline reviews and saabkyle04 always are on point they even talk about the different trims and what comes with them
The 2008 Mercedes R350 is one of the best cars I have ever owned. Am the original owner as it approches 206,000 mi. It has has its share of parts that needed replacement, however any car needs maintenance and with good maintenenace this R350 is in almost like new condition. I like the fact that it is slightly higher off the ground than a sedan, has AWD and yes Zack... you can actually fit 6 large adults in it and ...yes even in the 3rd row. SImply slide the second row sligthly forward and my 6 ft brother in law can actually comfortably sit in the rear with plenty of knee room. With the air suspension in the back, the car rides really nice on 16" tires that have more rubber than the other car I own the 2021 Kia Telluride. My wife keeps asking me when am I going to ditch the MB 350 and get myself a new car. My response is always the same: There is really nothing much better to buy out there? Other than the heads up display and lane departure feature in the Telluride, the R350 is a much more confortable car. Find me something better and I might consider?
Was a chauffer for a few years during college, since the Towncar was being discontinued, owner was looking at the R-class as replacement. It was a good car, comfortable, and reliable. Whenever a client needed a pickup/dropoff to/from the airport, this was almost always their preferred choice. Think we put around 60k miles in the first year, no issues
This car from 16years ago - still in condition and drives well. One of the best cars made.
Not sure where you got the idea that this shared a platform with the Pacifica. That simply isn’t true.
I thought my KZs were faulty at the beginning from the small audio glitches on the right channel 😭
I know I'm not the first to note this, but... There's almost no connection between the R Class and the Pacifica. No reference material links the two. The drivetrains are wholly different. They're assembled in entirely different countries (though that's not necessarily a clear indicator that they're different.)
Why does Zack repeat this? It's simply untrue.
Feels like Zack reviews these cars casually without much research.
If he did some research and added in some fun facts about the vehicle he's reviewing I think the content would be even better
Mercedes owned Chrysler.
@muleface1066 Not the point. The two vehicles were not rolling off the same assembly line, didn't have the same platforms, didn't have common powertrains, didn't have similar driving experiences... There was no connection between them.
Is anyone else hearing the bad audio? Or is TH-cam just being weird?
There are a few pops at the beginning that I couldn’t do anything about, but only in the beginning!
OPE!! You said quirk. Please report to Pricipal DeMuros office immediately for a super cool and neat reprimand.
My coworker swears by this era of Benz. He loves em. Also no, thay style of Mercedes shifter is still around. It's refined, but pretty much same concept otherwise.
I've heard it before but I can't figure out how this and the Pacifica are related. Other than the styling being vaguely similar, they don't share anything. The Pacifica is front engine, FWD or AWD and the R Class is front engine, RWD or AWD. Maybe the share some minor corporate parts bin components but I can't find any evidence of them being any more closely related than that.
They're not related at all. The Pacifica was related to the Chrysler minivans.
@@damilolaakanni Yet Zach keeps saying it.
@@shadmiller7282same way he keeps likening toyota’s hybrid ecvts to their conventional cvts even when they are nothing alike… zach pls…. 😭
They're not. Zack is wrong like he's been often recently.
I have owned one of these, they are amazing cars, really love how they drive
Thanks for making the video on the Mercedes R-Class as they are not many videos on that car on TH-cam.
I love your videos. They always put a smile on my face even when I'm not feeling good.
Fantastic video! In Europe we got a long wheel base diesel variant too
I used to want one of these until i remembered it has mercedes reliability and maintenance costs
Hi Zach, I love the Mercedes R350 & even though it's low on tech by modern standards, looks goid.
Keep going... great stuff
Ok Zack, I like you and your reviews, but you have been messing up on the info of vehicles a lot lately. This R class shares nothing with the old Pacifica SUV. The Pacifica was a front drive platform from Chrysler. The R class is a RWD platform as others stated. You can even note that engine placement, the Pacifica transverse and R class longitudinal. The Camry video was a slight mess up too, saying the 2010 and 2011 Camry's had a standard 2.4 AZ engine when they had the 2.5 AR engine.
How are the stalks on the wheel column?
My friend had one of these. It had a lot of power and was comfortable but for some reason I felt like I was in a hearse when in it.
I saw one of these in parking lot of my local hospital a few months ago and thought it was a very interesting push from Mercedes Benz for the minivan industry. I had to snap a pic
Nice car for the family. Looks very much comfortable
I love the car it’s soo comfortable. It is soo child friendly. The interior is amazing.
The tailgate beeper sounds alot like the 90s ford interior chime to me
Where did you even get the idea that the Mercedes R class and the Chrysler Pacifica shared a platform?
Very nice for a family
I clicked so fast! These are so rare and neat
Mercedes never disappoints nice family car
I drove a R320L CDi which was a long wheel base 3.0 V6 diesel with 225bhp and as ugly as it looked it felt like an estate version of the S Class and felt plenty powerful enough for its massive size
This car seems unique, strange and easily forgettable all at the same time.
Family driving in style
The 2005-2006 had major camshaft /timechain issues are very expensive to fix...about $12k!! Stay away from those years...I learned the hard way! They drive great though!!
These are neat
it’s crazy that the pacifica got the gauge cluster from the S class of the time and this got econo box looking gauges wtf 😭
Looks like a powerful old model car
This is my kind of car to drive. The best
I’ve waited a long time for an explanation of this car
Did you get what you needed? It's effectively Chrysler's version of the Honda Pilot/Acura MDX, but not as good. LEAGUES nicer than the Buick Rendezvous that lived in the same space.
@@doug6191 Chrysler had 0 to do with the R..
@@martinsv9183 I wonder what I was thinking when I replied to that... Rereading it now, I think I was referring to the Pacifica, which I know isn't related to the R Class. 🤔
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂 I gotta say this guy is awesome.. Great job!👍🏿👍🏿
Saw plenty of these in china, I like them
I love this era of the Mercedes V6. These engines hold longevity almost like a Toyota. And im not exaggerating. 2007 W211 & 2011 W212 owner. W211 with 238k and little maintenance. Only issue with the W211, is the Engine Computer Unit, and thats iffy.. W212 only issue was the radiator fan. I tell people, if you want a Mercedes, stick to the V6 they’re meant to be on par with Toyota for reliability. I see W211’s with 500k miles all the time, even looked at as one of the most reliable luxury vehicles of the past decade. GO FOR THE V6 MERCS!!
Seems like Mercedes didn’t know what they wanted the R class to be exactly. Since they didn’t know what it was exactly, couldn’t properly market it and therefore couldn’t sell in high numbers.
At first glance I thought this was a Mercedes Metris.
R350 I like
It looks like a bigger version of the 1st gen Class B.
I love Benz
Number One
That model fell fictim to the SUV trend. Also people who are cheap or never owned a premium car before drove these into the ground. Any Volvo, Mercedes-Benz, Audi needs more money than a KIA or Honda, if you just delete fault codes on your Amazon 12$ OBD scanner and never repair, any car will fail.
bruh what crossover?
It still looks like a hearse to me.
I could see how Mercedes-Benz intended this to be a tall E-Class wagon. These minivan-ish vehicles with regular doors are popular in Europe and Asia. In the US, we like our minivans vehicles with sliding doors. It was a weird car to try to sell in the US but I still see them occasionally.
I wouldn't mind having a AMG version
Even mormal V8 R500 is fun. Its only minivan with FR layout and its much flatter than any SUV. Especially GL it was derived from.
Very beautiful Mercedes great to use for a family man
Not feeling this one. Looks like a hearse….
You dont like dont have espace well maybe YOU ARE TO LARGE
Fantastic video! In Europe we got a long wheel base diesel variant too
