They didn't mention Uncle Ben specifically in Homecoming, I believe, but they did have a conversation (Aunt May and Peter) about how she had been through a lot of hard times or something
Rick asked if the virus had the same origin in the comic- it didn't. Technically, it didn't have an origin at all, but rather when a Watcher found the virus, he realized it had become a multiversal threat, as the zombies retained enough intelligence to jump to different universes. To prevent the virus from destroying the entire multiverse, the Watcher made it possible for the zombies from the second universe to jump back in time to the first universe at the time of the initial infection, effectively creating a closed infinite loop that provided endless worlds for the zombies to devour without ever leaving the same two timelines.
@@SeanWheeler100 I don't believe it was Uatu, since he generally watches events in 616, but it's been so long I can't recall specifically. In the comics, Watchers swore non-interference because the last time they tried to help, the knowledge they gave wound up destroying an entire race. However, certain watchers interfere wherever they discover multiversal threats. Uatu was once revealed to have interfered over 400 different times. Like the watcher says in the Dr. Strange episode: "I could interfere. I could warn him, but the fate of his reality is not worth risking the doom of all others" or something to that effect. We can infer from this that when something poses a threat to all realities, watchers will step in to help. Probably something that will happen in the coming episodes of What If...?
I understood The Watcher's last line to mean that they will save the world by reverting everyone back to normal but in doing so, unleash an almost full Infinity Gauntlet Thanos with minimal Avengers left to resist him in getting the Mind Stone. Hence the 'end of the universe' potential.

Hank Pym is a menace. Every Marvel comic fan knows that, he got off easy on the MCU because he didn’t get to create Ultron or hit his wife. Now the alternate universes are making up for it, keeping the long tradition of Hank Pym being the most dangerous person in the Marvel universe a common theme.
I do wish that we could have gotten a lil more Zombies talking like in the comics. Cause in that they basically retain everything that is them, they just have this overwhelming hunger to consume flesh. It’s really dark and fucked up and awesome the way it explores the characters. Also yes this is the first named reference to Uncle Ben in the MCU. He is referenced in Civil War & Homecoming passingly “when you can do the things I can, and you don’t” & “all the stuff going on with May” and we see his suitcase in Far From Home with the initials BFP. Also regardless of that, this episode was amazing
I mean, Thor can still come in and save everyone. Everyone in space that wasn't killed by Thanos is fine from the zombie virus. And by the time Thanos gets to Earth in the OG timeline in Infinity Wars, Thor will have already been there, just occupied cleaning mess against the army. And throwing Stormbringer at the arm might actually work since Zombie Thanos might have a weaker arm and the gauntlet could fall off. Then Thor would go for the sacrifice move to do the snap and save the world(unless his Asgardian body would let him live like Hulk).
In theory, wouldn't the Guardians also still all be alive (minus Gamora)? They only meet up with Thanos after splitting up because that's where Thanos is heading, due to Dr. Strange being brought there. But in this timeline, Thanos would have been alerted to problems on Earth and probably went straight there after grabbing the stone with Gamora. He had the Time stone, and it should still be on Srange's body which is somewhere on Earth. It would give Thor some back up for the fight and increase the odds of victory.
“Reed Richards’ son is not that powerful.” Uh……… he made Galactus HIS herald and kicked Celestial ass. He made a pocket universe, subconsciously, as a child.
I feel like the one thing I didn't like about this ep is that everyone is surprising chirpy as they watch their friends MERCILESSLY DIE HORRIBLY AROUND THEM. Like, if one of my friends head had been eaten by an ant or I had to cut one of my friends in half or see them explode from the inside out, I would vomit, cry, cry some more, and leap into a volcano.
Yeah, I've had that problem with the last few episodes, some of the humour and irreverence from the characters feels out of place in the darker stories they're telling, they could really stand to tone it down a little.
@@FiggityJones Yeah, the MCU is still the biggest family friendly franchise of all time, they can’t have a story were everyone is dying and characters react by crying their eyes out and panicking. Same reason why Wong was so nonchalant about being erased from existence last week, you can have stories with heavy implications but not actually depicting them.
I think in Far From Home, Peter's suitcase has Uncle Nen's' name or initials on it. Otherwise, he hasn't mentioned him by name. The closest is him alluding to "with great power comes great responsibility" when he's telling Tony why he does what he does in Civil War.
I didn't realize it at first but I take it that Okoye splitting that undead version of Sam in half was Marvel's homage to Danai Gurira's previous portrayal of the zombie slayer Michonne in The Walking Dead.
I wonder if that could be the last episode, the watcher merges all of the remnants of these universes trying to maybe stop the doom of all of them. Then the season ends with him being punished by the one who makes sure he doesn't break the rules, perhaps a celestial.
I haven't read the comics but I assume the Watcher cannot tell a story about themselves since they're the one watching? I know the onced interfered but we're at the point where they no longer interfere. But I can be wrong, guess we'll probably wait for future episodes. Kinda offtopic but I wish Stan Lee is there with the watcher telling the stories.
3:07 Aaron is an agent of chaos lmao. Just saying Schrodinger cat knowing he's completely out of context and enjoying the disapproving looks from Calvin and Rick 😂
Baba Yaga is the Milton of this episode. Ants do eat meat, they love hunting worms and cockroaches or at least can hunt them. So idk why Hope didn’t use it to remove a crap ton of the zombies
He has the Soul stone meaning he went to Vormir and Thor met with the Guardians to go make Stormbreaker. THAT entrance would have been DOPE. Thor's Wakanda entrance with Rocket and Groot but this time it's an army of zombies and Zombie Thanos. Thor could still save everyone unlike the Endgame timeline. He kills zombie Thanos, takes the gauntlet and is strong enough now to survive the snap and make everyone regular people again. I'm sure Peter could have helped Tchalla get to Shuri's workstation and crafted a prosthetic leg of vibrant quickly and both been ready to fight with Thor in a matter of minutes if he showed up in time.
Actually its not the first time they mentioned Uncle Ben in the MCU. In Far From Home, the suitcase that Peter used is actually from Uncle Ben complete with his initials B.F.P.
yeah so this was the first mention of uncle ben because they said for homecoming they didn't want to do the uncle ben story again so it was always just implied it happened without them bringing it up.

The fact Thanos was a zombie is fairly unbelievable, not even mentioning the fact he had some infinity stones. His skin is extremely strong what zombie can bite through that?? Didn’t like this episode at all. In the zombie comics they were smarter, they could even talk.
I loved Marvel Zombies ever since I was a kid. The mix of comedy and horror really made an impression on my kid brain. Real shame Chadwick passed away so we’ll never see him as king of the surviving humans like in the comic, that was my first introduction to Black Panther and cemented him as one of my favorite Marvel characters. Out of all the What ifs, that’s the one I want to see sequels for. With so many characters being introduced for phase 4 and beyond, should be plenty of material to keep the bodies piling like in this episode.
I absolutely loved this episode, it had me sitting and talking with the screen in a way I haven't with the other stories. I really wanted this episode to be a lot longer.
Best I can see their situation going is that since they have T'Challa he would know how to do their satellite crap and stuff. They have a chance of curing all the zombies but, from that point it's just bargaining with Thanos in hopes that he's like "Yo dawg you saved my life for shizzle so I'll do this for you"
Thor and the Guardians are probably inbound tracking Thanos down. One good Stormbringer hit disables Zombie Thanos long enough to get the Gauntlet off with help, and since Star Lord can't talk to a zombie about where Gamora is, they can actually get it off this time. Maybe even use it to save everyone they can.
Honestly, there’s a good amount of possible ways to have survived the zombie apocalypse. For one, Dr Strange should’ve sent them all the the Mirror Dimension or an infinite falling loop. Maybe he was caught off guard. If Thanos got bit after getting the time stone (somehow?), he could reverse the infection and obliterated the zombies. However, Hank Pym would be a problem since he’s very small.
In Marvel Zombies comics, zombie Reed Richards orchestrated a way to jump universes. They retain intelligence, which degrades as hunger rises, and speak.
The fact that the metahumans can use their powers, the turn is stupid quick, the zombies can somewhat retain their memories, (Wanda feeling sad for Vision and the Avengers still having their combat training and skills.) Black Panther specifically being used as spare food for a zombie, a human head in a container that is still alive and cured. These are all references to the OG Marvel Zombies Comics.
This episode made me really curious about Sharon Carter's timeline. In this episode's universe, maybe Civil War didn't happen or happened differently since Tony was with the other Avengers, and I don't think Scott and Peter knew of each other, but if it was similar, I'm really curious about how Sharon ended up being one of the survivors when she was on the run at that point in the MCU timeline, and we know she ended up in Madripoor as the Power Broker at some point between Civil War and Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and I feel like she probably didn't get Snapped away because she was still in power. Maybe she rose to power in Madripoor after Infinity War, but she still had to be somewhere before then, and I don't think she would have been hiding in the US.
The Avengers reunited slightly earlier to deal with the zombie threat, rather than Thanos. That's all. Sharon's plotline is still the same as well. Madripoor could easily have been one of the first ports of call for regrouping in that situation, or Sharon reached out instead to help re-arm the remaining Avengers - her status would be effectively neutralised if there's no government to enforce it. Also, Peter and Scott fought each other in Civil War, they knew of each other.
I didn't get the feeling that she went straight to Madripor after CW, so maybe she was still around when everything popped off. Even if she wasn't, I'm sure she would've seen what was happening and would've wanted to help.
@@LooseAsADEUCE She was still a fugitive immediately after Civil War. I imagine it didn't take long before she ended up in Madripoor. As we saw in Black Widow, those not captured already were hunted straight away and had to get off the grid sharpish. Shrink, fly , bite
All it takes, is one bite

Not gonna lie, this episode messed me up. Seeing so many avengers go out like that was rough to see 😩

@@michaelfitzgerald38 if I remember correctly Ruins was the most fucked up story line you guys need to read it it's SOOOO FUCKED

Seeing all the heroes die is such a morbid common theme in Marvel Comics. They even made various series called “The Punisher kills the Marvel Universe”, “Deadpool kills the Marvel Universe” and most recently “Deadpool kills the Marvel Universe AGAIN”. There’s definitely a public that craves for that, and Marvel has always been happy to deliver.
The scariest ending to an MCU Film / Show ever. This entire episode was absolutely terrifying!
There is still hope in this universe. The previous episode is still the scariest one for me where Strange will live all by himself in eternity, in a very small space of emptiness.
@@strider029 I'm pretty sure Thanos got all the Infinity Stones and infected the rest of the universe. Then he probably snapped more people into existence so that the Zombies have more to eat.
This is like The Walking Dead on steroids, which is fitting because Danai Gurira plays both Okoye and Michonne. Amazing episode!
From memory they've hinted at uncle Bens character but never officially name dropped him until now
Correct. There only was one mention in Homecoming about how May has been through to much already, implying that Ben had died a while back.
In Far From Home Peter's suitcase has Uncle Ben's initials on it.
@@Halbam Yeah that's the scene I remember
The Watcher saying "Oof" was hella weird and I loved it.
Huh. Interesting way of going about it and VERY different to what happened
Uatu broke his rule?
@@mrsirtoyou1974 Uatu doesn't just watch 616. He watches the entire multiverse, which is why he's the host of the What If series.
I understood The Watcher's last line to mean that they will save the world by reverting everyone back to normal but in doing so, unleash an almost full Infinity Gauntlet Thanos with minimal Avengers left to resist him in getting the Mind Stone. Hence the 'end of the universe' potential.

@@JayPlusForerunner It was a collective effort of blame for Hank, Hope and Scott not considering what might happen.

Peter mentioning uncle Ben was such a great moment for me XD
Imagine if the zombified Avengers got together for a Thriller video!
Would’ve been a good after credits scene
I mean, Thor can still come in and save everyone. Everyone in space that wasn't killed by Thanos is fine from the zombie virus. And by the time Thanos gets to Earth in the OG timeline in Infinity Wars, Thor will have already been there, just occupied cleaning mess against the army. And throwing Stormbringer at the arm might actually work since Zombie Thanos might have a weaker arm and the gauntlet could fall off. Then Thor would go for the sacrifice move to do the snap and save the world(unless his Asgardian body would let him live like Hulk).
Thor would survive a snap, Hulk got his arm burned but that's it, he wasn't dying, he pretty much went back too action after wards
“Reed Richards’ son is not that powerful.”
Uh……… he made Galactus HIS herald and kicked Celestial ass. He made a pocket universe, subconsciously, as a child.
But did he make better waffles than I can make? I didn't think so
I feel like the one thing I didn't like about this ep is that everyone is surprising chirpy as they watch their friends MERCILESSLY DIE HORRIBLY AROUND THEM.
I heard a theory that they kinda had to do that so they could get the gore through. Which if that’s what it takes, I’m good with it.
I've always joked around when bad things happen. It's a coping mechanism. Maybe there was a little too much, but it's definitely a thing people do.
I agree, this show is going downhill fast for me. Coulson sniffing Thor and all that was really stupid.
Calvin bringing up the old argument of AntMan eating when small and getting big and being full gave me war flashbacks
I think in Far From Home, Peter's suitcase has Uncle Nen's' name or initials on it. Otherwise, he hasn't mentioned him by name. The closest is him alluding to "with great power comes great responsibility" when he's telling Tony why he does what he does in Civil War.

14:07 perfect transition when you changed scenes of hulk fighting!
After that discussion during the intro I’d love to see an episode of ‘What If the Watcher interfered’.
I wonder if that could be the last episode, the watcher merges all of the remnants of these universes trying to maybe stop the doom of all of them. Then the season ends with him being punished by the one who makes sure he doesn't break the rules, perhaps a celestial.
Each episode we see more and more of him so im thinking we are definitely going to see him interfere in the very end.

Ants do eat meat, they love hunting worms and cockroaches or at least can hunt them. So idk why Hope didn’t use it to remove a crap ton of the zombies
6:50 The Watcher be getting more nervous about these dark universes and timelines he's watching. XD

Question is marvel zombies a good comic series because I want to read another comic series. So far the only full one I've read is Spiderman 2099
I absolutely loved this episode, it had me sitting and talking with the screen in a way I haven't with the other stories. I really wanted this episode to be a lot longer.
would you rather deal with one giant zombie or one bug sized flying zombie lol
I’d rather take my chances with a giant zombie lmao
@Santiago Sosa same
Giant zombie, definitely
giant, it’s easier to avoid getting bit! those lil bug monsters were terrifying haha
Giant zombie.
15:15 THANOS ZOMBIE!!! 💥 I liked your reaction... Very funny 🤣🤣
Still no Defenders in this universe?! Luke Cage would have been a great ally during the zombie apocalypse!
Yes since his skin is also tough to penetrate
@@rashadwalker8218 Exactly

funny how Danai Gurira was in the Zombie episode since shes in the walking dead.
When what if stayed this was the only thing I wanted in so happy they did it.
In the comics Wolverine, Deadpool, and Hulk all turned to Zombies even though they have extreme Healing Factors.
This ain’t about healing factor for the hulk it’s his tough skin and may have to do with gamma radiation because these are the exact same as comics
My favorite thing in this episode...…First time Uncle Ben was mentioned in the MCU FINALLY!!!!!!
But yeah, like you said, I'm sure she wanted to help - and if she was already the Power Broker at that point then also had access to some useful stuff.
