Changing the spur gear on the savage should be really easy on the X variants.
step 1: remove the 4 screws that hold the roll bar to the chassis.
step 2: there are 3 screws that hold the top half of the gearbox to the bottom that need to be removed (you can see them if you look straight down on the gearbox from the top).
step 3: remove the top half of the gearbox and change the spur gear.
you should not need to remove the engine or fuel tank to change the spur gear on a savage X or XL. However on the old savage 21 and savage 25 as well as the savage 3.5 you need to remove the engine and fuel tank to change the spur gear, but you can upgrade the gearbox casing to the new one from the X with the easy access to the spur gear.
The one thing that really does suck on the savage is the steering servo is not fun to replace because it is mounted underneath the radio box and sits near the top of the chassis so its not fun to remove from the bottom and most times I end up removing the radio box to change it out.
I have not had a TMaxx yet and it is unfortunately quite difficult to get a well priced used one where I live in South Africa but one day I would like to own one and see how it compares to all the savages that I've had over the years.
Great Video, Keep up the good work.

I hope you do find it interesting! I have wanted to make this for a long time since I got my Tmaxx. Curious what your thoughts are as well, from one longtime Savage owner to another. I'm sure I missed some things so feel free to let me know if so. Enjoy the review!

I got a traxxas tmaxx in 2002. I upgraded the motor to a 3.3 tho. She'll pull wheelies all day long
