The 10 Most Ironic Deaths In History

  • Ironic deaths are the stuff of legend when it comes to the craziest deaths imaginable. For starters, the owner of the Segway died in a Segway accident and a Green Party candidate was killed by an SUV. Some of the most ironic deaths of recent memory have been gathered here on this ironic death list.
    Ironic deaths are both easy and hard to define; unlike the Alanis Morissette song, there's a little more subtlety to calling a freaky death "ironic." Some of the most tragic deaths in history, however, were true cases of irony and life finding a way to turn death into something simultaneously funny and fascinating. These crazy deaths and stupid deaths feature stories of people who died in ways you might not expect.

    Jim Fix was one of the people responsible for making jogging mainstream in the United States. He started jogging to improve his health, but died of a heart attack in the middle of a jog.

    • @susanp.collins7834
      @susanp.collins7834 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

      Yes, but remember that Jim's father died at the age of 41. Jim's family had a history of familial hypercholesteraemia. I think I spelled it right. Also, Jim was under horrendous strain at the time of his death. He never made the changes to his diet that he should have. Moreover, the day of his death was horrendously hot. He did, in fact, cut his last run short but then he had a heart attack. Worse, he collapsed in the worst possible position, in a semi upright position on a grassy bank, whereas if he had collapsed in a flat position blood might have had a chance to get to his heart. So, dying at the age of 52 as opposed to his father's 41, one can argue that his running did in fact extend his life.

    • @Eidolon1andOnly
      @Eidolon1andOnly หลายเดือนก่อน +20

      That's a mistaken belief. The term is traced back to the mid 16th century, and refered to the type of beam or yoke (called a bucket) that livestock would be suspended from by their feet when being dispatched for the processing of meat. In their death-throes the animals would "kick the bucket." This term found broader use to mean "to stop living" (being careful with word choices so as not to be hidden) and was first recorded in a dictionary published in the mid 1700s.

    I would put the deaths of presidents Garfield and Kennedy. Kennedy was wearing a girdle for his bad back that whipped him backwards after the first (non-fatal) bullet instead of slumping forward and out of Oswald’s sights. Just google Garfield, it’s too long a story. Also there was a guy named Ziegler in the 1800’s who someone shot at out side his house, the bullet missed and lodged in a tree in his front yard. A year later Ziegler decided he wanted to remove the tree (which was blocking his view). Dynamite was a new invention and he used that instead of an axe. He used too much and the tree exploded so hard that the bullet dislodged and killed him

    @WeirdHistory (and to everyone else!) Thanks for the great video. Despite my guilty feelings, I love the Darwin Awards. I think one of the most ironic deaths was the inventor of the parachute. Except it wasn't that good. He was supposed to attach it to a mannequin and throw it off the Eiffel Tower, but decided to wear it himself...
    You'll love the BBC Horrible Histories channel on TH-cam, especially the Stupid Deaths skits. The whole set of seasons are on DVD and given that it's extremely accurate throughout (IIRC their history advisor found something like 8 small errors in about 4,000 facts!), it's a good source of fun.
    Although it's aimed at kids, I can guarantee that it's still (despite not being on TV in some years) popular with students and parents (and this grandma!) There are lots of poo jokes and the like - it's aimed at kids as I said - but there are also times when it's really serious, e.g. when talking about slavery and other genuinely horrible histories. It's not just a source of fun but of facts, even their parody songs contain a lot of historical facts. Hope you enjoy it!

    2:19 Ooof!
    3:09 You have to go into special training to cut out edible parts of a puffer fish. However, even after getting certification to cut it, there's no guarantee that all the parts, that are poisonous, have been successfully removed.
    5:45 Oh, no... Don't tell me he did it as a joke...
    6:07 That can send someone to therapy.
    10:08 It has got to be the last one. He could still be alive today.

    I think you completely butchered the Civil War lawyer's name. It's Vallandigham - the emphasis is on the "llan" syllable and there is no 'g' before the 'n' so it's "dig" not "ding.

    lmao the first oneeeeee lol. if i was there i wouldn't know whether to freak out or laugh or both. id be stuck in emotion at that very moment of how fugging ironic it was.
    second one i feel like was a memory lapse for sure. no one thinks about what kind of toilet they're sitting on ever and i mean why would you? 99.99% of toilets we use are porcelain, not metal. when do we ever use metal toilets? prison and maybe a bus station or like a pit stop toilet? even so it IS hilarious thats how he ended up dying after all.
    the japanese dude who died from the puffer reminds me of the Targaryen family. they claim that dragon fire can't harm them because they're dragons and its like. naah yall just got lucky. you CAN die to fire but its just harder for it to happen to you than to others. same with this dude. he wasn't immune, he prob could just tolerate it slightly better or for slightly longer OR he's just a liar.
    for the hitchhiker one...ive always wanted to see a murder case where like 2 murderers pick up another murderer or something and the whole plot is them trying to kill each other while still using each other to gain things lol. i mean you hear of serial killers picking up innocents and offing them and you also hear of serial killers hitching to off people who pick em up. why the fug have neither of them ever met?! not that i want it to happen cuz it means more murderers but it would have been an interesting crime to investigate or shet, it makes for a fun movie concept!
    DUDE I REMEMBER THE LAWYER WHO RAMMED INTO THE WINDOW! I REMEMBER THAT ON THE FUGGING NEWS!!!! i was 4 lol

      Filming a few videos so many a week is time consuming, so the original host takes a break, or the channel decided on a second host, and there are some hosts that have other jobs too.

    Not a fan of this video’s narration. Whatever raise Tom is asking for, give it to him. His voice is, by now, inseparably linked to the 'Weird History' brand.

    The narrator in this video is a good backup!
