    I am a Brit trying to pick up a "General American™" accent and I just end up sounding midwestern.

    Seems like years and years of video games and metal music have been an awesome teacher. I think I already sound like an american, and I figured most of these by myself.
    Stil I need practice of course, love your tips

    Hi Abbe, I'm from Rio, Brazil.
    I'll have a job interview in English in April; How do I keep calm? I'm afraid to make mistakes in English.
    Thanks so much!

      Hi Rob,
      I'd recommend that you speak to native speakers. You could have them do a pretend interview with you over and over again until you're completely comfortable with it.
      Here are a few articles from our blog that might help:

    Hi Abbe :)
    Can’t stop to enjoy your educated and gorgeous American English. I’m a Russian native speaker, so - I have a Russian accent. I live in the US, my biggest dream is to reduce my accent as less as I could 😂😂😂. So, may be you have cases in your life when people had a heavy accent and after practice they reduced that and accent became natural and decreased so much and became minimum? Thank you!

    • @mosalingua
      @mosalingua  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Aliaksei,
      Yes! I've personally seen many learners begin our Speak English with Confidence MasterClass with a very heavy accent, and by the end nearly all of them successfully minimize it. It often is a matter of tweaking just a few important sounds, and your accent will sound much closer to that of a native speaker. Living in the US, you have a nice advantage-you can imitate the Americans you interact with on a daily basis! This is especially helpful if your main problems are with intonation or rhythm.
      Here's just one of many examples I've come across in my own experience. Komitse Sena was a student in our English MasterClass, and you can listen to his pronunciation before and after taking the course (just 6 weeks later):
      academy.mosalingua.com/mosaspeak-sales-page/?preferred=true#:~:text=L%27anglais%20de%20Komitse,avant%20la%20Masterclass%20%3A
      Hopefully that inspires you to keep working hard-it is absolutely possible to reduce your accent!
      Happy learning!

    Im german and the big problem i have right now is that i pronounce the letters O, A and I very thick. I also got problems with TH. I kinda pronounce that like a D. Is there anything you can do againt that?

    • @mosalingua
      @mosalingua  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello!
      Thanks for watching. You're not alone - the "th" gives many learners trouble! Have you seen the video about that sound by our friend and accent reduction expert, Sean? Here's the link if you haven't: th-cam.com/video/axcWGcUC05c/w-d-xo.html
      I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "thick," but you may want to try closing your mouth slightly more than you think you have to for those vowel sounds and making them shorter in length. It sounds like our Speak English with Confidence MasterClass would be perfect for you - the link is in the description if you'd like to learn more!
      Have a great day,
      ABBE

    Hi Adde, my name is Omar and I'm from Mexico. All the time I am translating words because I do not understand them. You could tell me how to understand the meaning of a word without having to translate.
    By the way, you are very pretty.

      Well, to understand words, you simply have to learn them.

    Hey Abbe,
    I am Greek but I learned English from British teachers and now I sound kinda British. I wanna sound American though, what could I do?

    • @mosalingua
      @mosalingua  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello! Thanks for your comment.
      I would start by watching lots of American TV since immersion is the best solution! You could also study the specific differences between the two accents and work on changing the way you pronounce a few specific sounds (such as softening your T's in the middle of words to make them sound more like D's, switching from the British to the American A - /ɑː/ to /æ/ if you are familiar with the International Phonetic Alphabet, and strengthening your R).
      I hope that helps!
