How do you fit an 11-40 cassette with a GRX 2x rear derailleur when the max is 11-34 as per specs? Please share your secret sauce doing that 11-40. Good luck with that race
Hey Cesar, thanks for the watch and the question! Not a whole lot of secret sauce to run the 11-40 cassette. I think I kept the chain at full length out of the box, maybe one link off, and ran a bunch of B-tension to clear the extra teeth. Now, the chain had a good bit of slack if I cross chained in the small ring, and that resulted in some sloppy shifts. So, I just avoided that gear combo and it managed great! The overall winner was running a 50/34 with an 11/40, and he ended up swapping the rear derailleur for the 1x version. Might try that in the future as I do have an 817 derailleur laying around...
I love the GRX group for a couple reasons, specifically the Di2 version. My hands seem to agree better with the lever body shape than the current Sram offerings. I love the extra button to change the pages on my GPS and don't have to move my hands in order to do it. And in regards to the 2x I much prefer the smaller steps in between gears in the cassette, and having the ability to make a big gear change with one push of a button. I forgot to mention in the video that I also have satellite shifter buttons on the tops, which are wonderful for shifting while staying upright. So, for me its a resounding yes!

Do you think GRX Group is good for Transcordillera or would you like to have others?
