Last week we ate breakfast at JJs. Best part of Subway Cave lava tube is the year round 45 degrees. Hard to leave on a hot day. Our young waitress at JJ’s said the Dixie Fire made it all the way to her backyard. That seven headed Dixie fire was relentless and leveled Greenville near Chester. My wife Nita and I enjoyed that Hat Creek Rim view but not the hot treeless stretch of PCT due to a different fire in 2009
A long and busy day! How nice to run into Jedi and Riveter, very kind of them to provide food and beverage! No need to apologize or explain a 29.9 mile day - enjoy opportunities as they arise. I hope your jammed finger has resolved.
JJs 😋. Good 👣QOL requires no apology 😎 Marmalade said u crossed paths👍. I’ll b rehiking N Oregon w/ him in a few days 👏 Always impressed with how together ur hike appears.
Thanks again for bringing us along! Not necessarily related to this video, but wanted to tell you that I’ve already co-opted two things from you - your trail mantra; “my most important day on the trail is tomorrow”, and the ‘sacred towel’. Thanks!
Huge day on so many fronts. It’s jammin’ weather!!! Me a toe, Billy a thumb (and currently playing piano in a festival in Indiana) and his sis in Ohio broke her pinkie in 2 places… all this in a week! It’s a season, isn’t it? Glad you’re ok after the log roll. Coulda been real bad! 🙏🏾🙏🏻👏🏼👏🏼🥾🏕️
Hey Beat if you have time I am curious when you came through Warner Valley past Drakesbad did you notice if the resort was still there or had it been burned up by the Dixie fire when it came through. Again appreciate your time and effort in sharing your journey with us
The resort did not burn but is still closed this season as is all access Lassen Volcanic National Park from the Warner Valley road. A good friend lost his summer cabin about a mile east of Park boundary. Not clear to me if they will reopen next season in 2024 but hopefully so. Those lush meadows along King Creek and Warner Creek are just as green as ever but the forest is mostly sticks due to crown fire. The Dixie Fire of 2020 burned seven different ways and cooked much of our forested recreation areas 🥲
I would love to confirm, I appreciate the sentiment, can you let me know how it was transmitted? Apologies if I take time to respond, service is exceptionally hard to come by. I try to keep detailed records of all donations / donors-- it's totally possible that I missed an entry but I want to confirm that it was an error on my part and not a snag in the platform you used. If you tell me when abd how you transmitted, I can check those specific accounts and investigate where the failure occurred. I definitely want to understand and acknowledge!!
Ok…I try not to armchair quarterback, but what were you thinking on that unnecessary road walk??? There’s even an alternate from the PCT in the National park that includes water. I kept to the PCT which was fine but did note the alternate that went by several lakes. Ok. Off my soapbox. HYOH. Haha. Now I need to donate as penance. -GoalTech. (I hiked Hat Creek Rim during the heat dome a couple years ago. It was hot but amazingly beautiful. Loved it.)
11:41 Classic Beat phrases all in a row: It is what it is. It’s fine. Should be great. And another new one I like: Whatever decision I make will be the right one 👍🏼
Keep safe. Now you are putting I'm the miles.
Thanks, Craig!
Awesome day, another excellent video.
Thank you very much!

Very cool!! Not sure about "together" per se-- just have to keep falling forward, so to speak!! Hope we link up!
Donuts and PBRs, true hiker trash food! Good vibes dude, take care, Crackerjack.
Gotta smash in thise calories!! 😆
You earned those 3 beers and donuts. You did great mileage today.
Thanks!
Another great mileage day considering a pit stop fueled by PBR and Donuts 👍
Absolutely!!
Yep, Hat Creek Rim -- welcome to the NorCal Desert!
No apologies necessary --
The universe is always right on time, and so was that beer! 😂
Big day! 29 plus is great especially in the heat. I hope the temps get lower as you move north.
They've been moderating recently-- definitely hoping that trend persists!!

Yikes!! Man I guess they say bad things come in threes, hopefully you're safe for a while now, get better!!
You’re sort of apologizing for having fun😂. You’re putting in the work.
I mean yeah, I suppose I am!!
I hope your hand’s OK.
Better every day, thanks!
