This is what I assumed this civ would get used for when i first saw the tang bonus. Sure you can save 400 resources on your farming, or you can get a trash unit early that beats spearmen/horsemen/archers and denies the enemy at least 225 passive resources per minute while gaining 375 per minute prior to tithe barns being possible (after tithe barns its more like 700.) Song dynasty gives you a low hanging fruit but this gives you a millitary rush (Shaolin Monks,) a tech edge (Castle,) and an economic boon (Relics) all at the same time, and you still have the song bonus before you need farms. Now here is the real kicker, if you fast yuan the pagodas you get are going to become production buildings for the monks, and you are getting 250 per minute from the relics. So you start getting. - Enough stone for a town center every two minutes between the meditation garden and your pagodas. - Four buildings spitting out shaolin monks. - Six super imperial officials. - A savings of something absurd like 630 on your landmarks. You would need to have build 22 farms for a bigger savings from going song. So you have a strong regenerating damage sponge as the core of your army, simple macro, and enough gold to go as gold heavy on the rest of your composition as your can dream of.... And you still can go song.

How do you even counter this? Just lost against this nonsens as the OG HRE, i made knights but soon as they make some spears they become useless. Not to mention, that they hit castle even faster then og HRE, so by the time my first knight comes up they already have there monks running back with the relics. No fudal unit can stand against them and MMA are to slow and are still to weak.
Maaan, I'm trying as hard as I can and the earliest I can do is 7-8 minutes for castle, I just don't have enough food to do that and to be producing villagers at the same time, am I missing something? Also when do you get your wheelbarrow upgrade?
I'm in Plat 1 and I've been able to get castle in 6 and a half minutes or so. Are you making sure to 1) go for sheep first and not berries and 2) constantly supervise dropoffs? It's important to drop off your taxes after manually dropping all the resources in the mill. If you go 7 food then 3 gold then the rest food you'll have plenty! Another thing might be making sure that your meditation garden is built next to berries.
After much frustration I found that you cannot eject a relic. BUT, if you have a monk (my case was a shaolin monk) and click on monastery there is a little hand picking icon that comes up. He then retrieves it. I was trying to put them from monastery to pagoda’s and it took me all day lol. 😅
Zhu Xie is pretty strong prob the strongest of the new civs imo because of all the eco bonuses. They aren't as safe without the barbican but my god can you age up fast. Japan is probably the worst imo with all their unit feeling quite underwhelming except for their knights which are pretty good but I think Japan needs a feudal buff of some sort. They feel like a dark age civ in feudal
Its not a normal monk. Have you seen the crazy things real life shaolin monks can do? I do believe that 100 food is way too cheap for such an op unit though.
Drongo pls don't say that farms are cheaper than the english ones because that is objectively wrong. Just say they have a better wood eco (and that is even better than cheap farms!)

The shaolin monks are probably going to get some of the resources converted to gold at some point it seems crazy that they only cost food
