    I just heard an interview with "the Master"(Allan Holdsworth) himself and he said: "Gary Husband's drumming in my music sounds as if I am drumming myself" That's about the best compliment you can get!

      Thanks Erik. He was my brother and I felt the same with him. That musical relationship was just truly special, intensely close, natural & exceptional in my life. I believe it was for the both of us, and I was feeling him a lot on the day we recorded this. 🎈

    Gary is my favourite drummer every time I hear him play it fills me full of joy.
    I've been listening to him play. Since I was a baby with my parents listening to level 42 and then when I got onto Holdsworth as a teen.

    I will NEVER forget having breakfast with you at the Delta Hotel in Sydney NS. In addition to Gloria and Bruce Aitkens, Denny Siewell was there as well. If memory serves, Ray Ayotte sat with us as well. The Cape Breton Drum Festival is gone, but the memories still linger.

    Gary Husband's approach to drums is so unorthodox and imaginative.

      His drumming on "low levels, high stakes" (among others) changed the way I perceive drums entirely. Gary truly _plays_ the drums.

    Level 42 was like a gateway drug for me into this much more intense music of yours and Allan's. I came and saw you do a drum clinic in Norbury of all places in the early 90s and it really spaked something in 17 year old me. I asked such a dumb question that night - "how many sticks do you break?", "oh, plenty" was your answer. haha

    Absolutely LOVE Gary's style. And that kit is about as close to the last kit I ever owned as it could get. Had a red 9-piece Tama Rock Star - double bass, 4 mounted, two floor, snare and all the hardware. His style reminds me a lot of the great Simon Phillips, so hard driving yet musical, in the pocket and melodic. He's brilliant.

    Amazing! Gary is on my top 5 list he always has been one of my favorites - Please tell me Mr. Husband, what on Gods green earth are you doing at 2:30 to 2:43? I've heard you do that before I think and I think you did it on your instructional video but I cant tell what you're doing is it inverted doubles or something? I don't know but I know one thing and that is its probably an easy sticking pattern its just that you've personalized it and developed it into an intense dynamic and climactic way of phrasing like only you can - Its an energetic from the soul rawness when you play that is rare - Its a Tony Williams kind of energy its so musical and alive Gary, Tony and their kind are truly blessed - Please tell me what's happening at 2:30 to 2:43

      Oh … well, y’know, it’s Billy Cobham if accurate due acknowledgment is to be paid. 1974 a whole generation of us all soaked up the inspiration of BC. I’ve always loved my periods with bigger, double sets. What a set of sonics! In my case, just same old me just with a whole lot more drums. A large kit is a big statement, and I love it too, though I’m just as at home with my six piece or even four piece sets.

      Most kind thank you! I actually pretty much bring them to much the same ballpark methods of tension every time and arrive at the desired response quite quickly. I think the drums themselves have to take a lot of credit … and the way my touch works and blends with them!
      Again, kind of you, thanks

    • @mymodel6
      @mymodel6 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@GaryHusbandKeyboardsandDrums Not kind, just pure facts :) I've been binge watching a lot of L42 stuff recently, and came across the 2009 show in Holland. I initially thought 'wow, the sound engineer is a bloody genius!' such was the quality of the drum sound, particularly the toms and cymbals, but whilst i still think they were, as it's probably one of the best live mixes i've ever heard, listening as i have to all of these recordings you've made, i've realised that the sound engineers job is made that much easier when you give him a kit that sounds like this already on a plate! :). P.s, You can have the best shells in the world, but it takes a good ear and feel to make them sound like this mate, it's very rare..
      Having listened to pretty much every L42 live recording i can find, i think your time with them exemplifies the difference a world class drummer can make to a band, they were never better, before or since. A good drummer doesn't just have chops, he listens first, and plays with not only the tightness the rest of the members can rely on, but plays with the sort of dynamics that actually changes the way every member in the band plays, and that's where i think your strength truly is. You inspire and influence the musicality of those around you. All good musicians do this all the time, but when a drummer does it in a high energy band like L42 and with a bass player like Mark, it changes the game completely.. My hat is so off to you sir i may never put it back on! :)
