Thank You for this interview. A retirement portfolio could definitely benefit from ultra high yielding instrument like SVOL S&P 500 40% SVOL + others 10% SCHG 10% SCHD + VYM 10% VTV 10% AMLP 10% BND 10%
Hi, I love that gentleman , no marketing bullshit only technical information. Happy to learn how to resolve the concentration in my portfolio by adding diversification in revenu source. Great interview....I will add to SVOL. Thanks, 😁
Thank you for the excellent interview. I'd appreciate your insights on the following. According to SVOL’s Section 19(a) filings, a significant portion of each month's distribution appears to consist of ROC. Is this due to their options strategies not fitting neatly into traditional categories like interest or dividends, leading to the distributions being classified as ROC, or the result of insufficient earnings to cover the dividend?
Did this replace the collars? Edit: I asked that before I watched the whole video... my understanding is that the protective collars still exist but are supplemented by other forms of hedging also. I got that right? Thanks for the interview!
yes they VIX call options are still there. you can see them in the holdings. they are buying VIX calls at 50$ which is way out of the money, but will mitigate in case of massive vix spikes (over 50)
No, not correct. The 15% withholding tax applies only to the part of the distribution that contains U.S. dividends from its underlying stocks that it holds, not the entire distribution (unless it is 100% U.S. dividends)
On a yearly basis (or even last full year, 2023), how much of the $3.60 ($.30 x 12) was a return of capital? I am OK with the return of capital because it is not taxed under the US tax code.
@@PassiveIncomeInvesting, I hope I am wrong. However, 63.3% of the $3.60 annual distribution is return of capital, leaving only 36.7% of real fund income. This is great for tax purposes, but it's downright bad for investment returns. Teach me why 2/3 of the distribution is the return of capital is good?
@@PassiveIncomeInvesting You may call it a myth, or just the fact the ETF went down in value back in 2022 which it never recovered back to. Either way you'd be at a loss to the underlying security today. A $4 loss will take (4.00/.30=)~13.33 months to recover.
Hey Adrian, thank you SO MUCH for the SVOL video update! Very informative even without our friend Shailesh. Really loved at the end when you said ..... your dad has some SVOL position as am probably older. Consistent div's and a great time to buy now. Best regards, Steve.
well, I don't really understand what this fund does to make it's money. it shorts stuff, etc etc...I know what the VIX is, or thought I did...I don't get it. I like the distribution, the fund hasn't been around long, it's gone down a lot since inception but total yield is nice...
it has NOT gone down ALOT . not sure what you are talking about. again ... looking at stock prices is for children. you said it yourself the returns are impressive. i have many SVOl videos and they have some as well. you still do not know how it makes money? it was discussed in this video a well..... they use about 25% of the funds NAV to short the VIX to generate premiums. the rest is in other Simplify ETFs and short term treasuries. its quite simple. (Simplify)
SVOL just recently lowered the distribution from .30/month to .28. Do you imagine that this will be the pattern where they lower it by .02 every year? I would have been happy if it stayed at .30 forever, but if they lower it every year, I don't think this a good "buy and hold forever" investment.
I wish they'd offer an ETF like SVOL for international investors who don't want their dividends to be subject to withholding tax. This can be achieved by choosing e.g. Ireland as domicile. I can’t understand why there isn't more on offer for that clientèle.
I bought some SVOL, even with the withholding tax (from Asian). I calculated that even after taking the hit from the tax, the monthly dividend income is more than anything I can get here, and the stocks price is pretty stable (not really looking for growth form SVOL). Yah, so I am like you, wish for less withholding tax hits but if not, doing well enough to hold. Wish you the best ✌️
So for someone who cannot hedge or doesn't do options is it a good stock to own long term? I am alittle worried right now about us going into a recession, I wonder how this would do during a recession.
What?! The price return is down a little bit but the total return is up over 13% since inception. Compared with other high yield income investments SVOL is killing it. This past week was a worse case scenario for SVOL and it still performed ok.
@@marcalvarado1915Haha thats not a good comparison..Compare all of those funds to say ZSP or VFv or zgq ..Even with dividends factored into these income funds - they are still laggards..Its not that difficult to see...
Love the fund too. Picked up 40% more on the recent VIX spike.
Held up very well during sudden vix spike last week. Very impressive risk management
Did it though? It dropped 6.5% last Monday on that single day. More than 2-3x the drop of other etfs. I wish it held up better than it did.

I like the changes they are making… kind of a maturing of the fund. 👍
Do Canadian should pay 15% for monthly income received from SVOL ?
15% withholding tax on distribution, unless it is at RRSP
correct
No, not correct. The 15% withholding tax applies only to the part of the distribution that contains U.S. dividends from its underlying stocks that it holds, not the entire distribution (unless it is 100% U.S. dividends)
