It’s been my favourite mapex snare ever since it was released. The only one I like more than this is the VK copper 14x6,5 that’s in GGD Modern & Massive.
nobody is mentioning how the mix on this video is actually incredibly good, I've never heard mixes this good on playthroughs or covers or anything ever it's unreal
Straight up *dancing* on those cymbals during the transitions into the chorus sections. You look so genuinely happy during those parts(unless those are grimaces lol) absolutely incredible! This track is such a banger
This track is the hardest track on the album and now it's clear to see why! There's so much energy on display all throughout the entire song and we're all here for it.
I've seen music videos and pictures, but this playthrough really showcases your energy! It makes me want to play my kit, and get back listening to Monuments. Nice new drums, and amazing playing.
Mike I love you playing. Please add this song to your drum academy. Please keep adding songs to your drum academy. Fan girl waiting and stalking your website each week.
You are the only reason I still listen to Monuments post Phronesis, you inspirational with constructing tasty as fuck, busy yet not overbearing. CLASS ACT ALWAYS MAN
This was absolutely amazing. So much talent and love the expressiveness of the form. It's always a pleasure to see truly talented drummers post more raw videos instead of play-throughs that have been fully mixed and touched up. Hope to see more of these!
i am so happy that you're deciding to go all natural with your vids nowadays. you're often cited as one of the few people who unwittingly (at least to begin with) shot for inhuman consistency and got there/very very good as a result, so this change is really making a big statement, that I respect massively. whilst there are deffo people who are capable of that level of commitment and reap the rewards, it's hardly a secret that for a lot of musicians, it can come at the cost of something far more important, their mental health. i don't think that's worth it. i also, as a drummer, but primarily, as a listener, by and large, vastly prefer the sound of mistakes, inconsistency, minimal/no editing outside of an ever increasingly narrow window of sonic aesthetics. i think we'd all be a lot better off if we started to reverse this trend towards aspiring to the inhuman. something else that always seems left out of these discussions is that the whole reason why there's been such a proliferation of drum sample instruments like GGD, superior and all their countless competitors in the first place, is that recording drums well was and is prohibitively expensive. we all know that, except it now seems like we're so used to these tools now that we forgot that they came into existence mainly because of that, rather than people preferring the sound of gridded hits and impossible 127 rimshots. just my 2 cents.
@@adamsteelproducer that's my point. it doesn't get better than this in the realms of reality, but could have easily been edited and sample augmented like most others things are and I really like that it's not.
See there you go! Much better angels and views. Could hardly see what you were playing with the last one. Great upload. No over editing, mixed incredibly well, killer complexity and we get to see what youre playing. Perfrct playthrough. Only thing that would make it better would be an instrumental verison where your playing is the loudest part of the audio. Man this was sick!
Give credit to everyone else in the band, man. Their post-Phronesis sound has been fantastic, and that's because of a collective effort from the band as a whole. Everyone is sublime at what they do
Always love the little nuances that you put in these vids that differ from the album version, like the crash choke here. If you re-recorded the album would you put these changes in?
The sheer amount of joy Mike presents in his playthroughs really makes it that much more fun to watch. Great work as always, man! Will senpai grace us with a Cimmerian playthrough tho...? 😏
It’s a product demo for the new Mapex drumkit. Using samples would have been disingenuous in trying to portray how they sound. And the one-take part is describing our intentions. If you don’t want to do it that way, great! However there’s no need to complain.
It is a way of letting go of perfectionism for the player and letting the music be more natural like in the tape days. It’s kind of a point of pride, and it refers to the genuine nature of the recording process :)
@@MalyanDrum thanks for answering. I only ask because it catches my attention to see "no samples" in many drummers' videos, I don't see the bad thing in using samples nor do I think it's bad to make a video in many takes, since that's how albums and video clips are usually recorded . Now, if you're proud of that, great. my question is not a criticism but a doubt that arises every time I see that "no samples" hehe.
@@matiETN It's worth mentioning for sure - I imagine there are people watching this that are wondering why the snare doesn't sound like 300 different exploding snares hit with an unstoppable force. It's also validating to those that don't layer up a tonne of samples to know that you can still get killer sounding results with the traditional (and more honest) methods. The one-take thing is basically just a flex, but if you could one-take a performance like this you would absolutely milk it too
The lyrics: 💀
Mike: 😃
can you feel your withered drum heads slowly die?
Never change this snare
It’s been my favourite mapex snare ever since it was released. The only one I like more than this is the VK copper 14x6,5 that’s in GGD Modern & Massive.
It does sound unique. Like a good boxy. Sound.
it's so fucking good not gonna lie, that's like the first thing that stood out to me from monuments songs
nobody is mentioning how the mix on this video is actually incredibly good, I've never heard mixes this good on playthroughs or covers or anything ever it's unreal
Those ghosty boys
Just yes!
1:07-1:12 - WOW
Exactly! I take you repeated that bit numerous times (I certainly did)?
Mike brings the thunder like no one else.
It's awesome watching you have a blast on the kit! That prechorus fill FUCKS

Let’s gooooooo 🎉🎉🎉
That copper snare is hot Mike! Mapex is the shit. Great video man can’t wait to see you again man
Periphery got their shit together! Wow!
Que espetáculo! sensacional!
Fucking love you Mike!!!!! I hate boring drummers and you are never! Thank you for what you do!
Can you hurry up and come to NZ already... I'm sick of being blued balled by you guys 🤣🤣🤣
This track is the hardest track on the album and now it's clear to see why! There's so much energy on display all throughout the entire song and we're all here for it.
Bravo! Amazing showman you are Sir!
THE BEST
Siiick! Go Mike! 🔥
I rarely hear someone as expressive as you. Awesome take brother.

To be fair, I’d challenge anyone to be more consistent than this in a single take! 😅

That modulation at 2:08 is so good!
Metric Modulation is one of the most satisfying things you can hear in a song
Loving every bit of your drumming .... Awsome
Mapex and Meinl are always guaranteed to sound great
love it..
such a unique drumstyle! so impressive!!!
Mike is wonderful.i love all of his work
Freakin sick, and really beautiful kit you got there :)

O the joy this man gets from playing the drums
monster mike!
First
The kit sounds fantastic mikeyman
Killed it Mike! Great job
You are the fucking man Mike!!!
And Mapex double pedal?? Was not expecting that!!
The only reason why I am still listening to post-Phronesis Monu. Amazing work as always. That snare tone is HUHU!
Give credit to everyone else in the band, man. Their post-Phronesis sound has been fantastic, and that's because of a collective effort from the band as a whole. Everyone is sublime at what they do
I do agree that Mike is one of the best in the game, though. His proficiency is insane
Kit sounds amazing.
Please tell us what snare???
god

I guess so! But I dint think we would rerecord it, its much more likely that live versions will continue to blossom and develop!😊
1:10 SO FUCKING TRUUEEEEE
That breakdown face was op.
The pure joy in your face says it all, awesome job mike!

Low key a genius. 😥
why do i feel like with drum colors, his T-shirt and joy of playing I somehow think of Mike Portnoy....correct me if i am wrong.
I feel so so much Warren tune with this and I do periphery just does nothing for me
Jesus christ bro save some talent for the rest of us. Unreal 🔥
best song on the album imo just wish john was a little louder
I'm just surprised not to see any china in the setup.
why do they always write "one take, no samples"? recording a song or a video in many takes and using samples is not a bad thing.
