2% loss per year does not mean 60% is gone after 30 years. It means 54.55% *remains* after that time. Try this function in e.g. LibreOffice Calc: =POWER(0.98,30)
Yes, still a big loss at ~45%, but 36% more remaining than your number.
Erik Wait recently did a vid about grain whisky production methods but with different angles/topics covered from yours so thanks very much for your additional information.
