Sam Baker those Broken Fingers of yours provide us all with the most magical music ever , long may you stay healthy and well , much happiness to you and yours , greetings from Belfast , my late husband adored your music as I do too , you are such a lovely man !!
Saw Sam last night and it was an exceptional concert. Intimate - I think maybe 60 people so up close and personal. Very self-effacing and much like an older, wiser Todd Snider. Talked to him afterwards about Broken Fingers and something that happened to me and he was a really gentle soul. Will see him whenever I can. Is he the greatest singer around? Nope. But then neither was Woody Guthrie and a host of others. He's real and honest and his music is very close and personal. Love the man and his music.
What an amazing artist. I don't know why I've only come across his work now but his songs are on repeat in my house for the last couple of days. Every one a gem. I hope to get to see him live, in Ireland before too much longer.
WOW, I just ran across this video on TH-cam, I have never heard of Sam Baker before... but this man is a genius. Amazing song writing, Unique voice a truly great talent.
He played live when I had a stage in Takoma Park, Maryland through Hungryformusic. He's all about LOVE...throughout. I remember his life story is full of adventures in South America, that he should have lost his life several times and was saved by angels....
if it gets more real than this, please let me know where, but I'm not sure I could stand it. Mr. Baker lays it on the line every damn time! Chilling and uplifting at the same time.... brilliant!
@coleyman1 the feeling and emotion that sam gives during a performance can not be duplicated for the better by pretty much anybody. to have lived and breathed one's song is a whole level above an artist who covers someone else's story and song. Don't get me wrong, this song deserves to be covered, I am just saying, as an artist, this delivery was phenomenal.
I don't get the beef with his voice. It's one of the best voices going these days and it's unmistakable. If you have someone singing his songs that sound just like every other "good" voice out there too much is lost.
Yep. A lot of people have 'great' voices and can sing the notes flawlessly and if they're in musical theatre thats fine, but I'd prefer to listen to someone with emotion in their voice. There are vocalists who can do both, but they're exceptionally rare.
commovente la sua storia artistica, l'incidente subito, una musica forte e carica di emozioni. Per me è una grande scoperta anche per il suo spirito di attaccamento alla vita e alla bellezza delle cose semplici della vita domestica come nel brano " Days". Grazie Sam
his silhouette refers to the German boy that asked to switch places with Sam in the train compartment that housed the ensuing Shining Path bomb where Sam would witness the family opposite killed before his eyes, i feel sam's guilt that he would should have not survived or my buddy Don who sat next to Sam, tragedy struck, Sam where are you? come back pls and teach us reality!! ....a cleaner version
"I stand by my opinion that he is a very profound writer but his songs project better when someone else does them." His voice is reminiscent of Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan. While their music is certainly better with someone else performing it, I don't think that applies to Sam Baker. Cohen and Dylan speak of universal themes and truths ... Baker's songs are so tied to his experience I don't see anyone else being able to do them justice. Yes, he's hard to listen to vocally but the whole package is his and his alone.
To your inbox @leon. Still playing I can get by tuning a station on my pandora and patiently waiting. It's actually on the tribute album Peter case: a case for case & available for Amazon download ( maybe iTunes) . say the right words is a piano instrumental, but I'm pretty sure it's one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard.
May we all create such beauty that comes up out of our pain and sorrow. His rough stone polished into a sacred life that blesses me into such deep place of love and hope. I learned of you last night on Fresh Air interview and am blessed. www.npr.org/2014/05/06/310089151/sam-baker-finding-grace-in-the-wake-of-destruction
One thing that changed was the sense that all suffering is universal. That we suffer, you suffer, that we all do ... me, especially what I learned was empathy, and the faith that I got was the faith in us as a group, as humans."
you know what? he sounds kind of like Bob Dylan. and stupid people will always be stupid, leaving redundant and nasty comments, ain't nobody gonna change that.

Truly touches the soul. You are here for a special reason Sam.

Musical alchemy purifies and condenses reality down to crystals of pure existence.
No one else could sing this song with such emotion. It is haunting yet beautiful at the same time.
This song. Does me in. Every time. Thank you for this Sam,
Debts of honor travel with the heart. But this is not a journey into dark, it is a journey into light. Such is the way of love. thank you brother.

Same here. I just missed him in Austin right after Thanksgiving, but I'm watching for him to come to Dallas.
Sam gave me many moments of comfort as I tried to put my destroyed faith in people into perspective, he was a lodestar just when I needed one.
this is what songwriting, art, music, acting, painting, dance is about. he is perfect as a poet and a player.

This is the most organic and heartfelt song I believe I've ever heard. Thank you is hardly enough to this man for writing/ singing this.
He played live when I had a stage in Takoma Park, Maryland through Hungryformusic.
He's all about LOVE...throughout. I remember his life story is full of adventures in South America, that he should have lost his life several times and was saved by angels....

If you haven't listened to "Still playin" and "Say the right words" you're missing out. Can't find them here though!
Quietly beautiful, thank you

great thanks you Sam Baker
Nobody tells a 3 minute story like Sam.

I am in awe of his humanity and his music is my salvation.
Some things don't heal.....
super!!
Great
@coleyman1 obviously you just don't get it- it's not about commercial appeal- it's about heart and soul and life...
