    My problem is that I have to split my time making art between finishing AP art assignments (which is a real cram because I signed up for 2D and I have a piece due every week) I feel like I always have to choose between passing the class by turning in mediocre work, and taking time on projects where I can experiment more

      I totally understand what you're going through because most creative AP courses take up a huge amount of time. I don't know if you have taken AP Drawing or 3D before but for me personally, I took AP Drawing my junior year, and I was really uptight about the rubric and the criteria that they had for grading. I gave myself unnecessary stress because when I took AP 2D as I senior, I solely just did what I want to and got 5s for both courses anyways. So I feel like it would help you if you don't treat your art and AP assignments separate things. Try to just be yourself in both aspects since it doesn't hurt to have similar personalities in your personal work and your AP art pieces. At the end of the day, you're the artist for both anyways! Don't be too stressed and try to enjoy the process if its something you have to go through anyways:) Gluck!!!!

    Thanks for providing such useful information!!! I am very curious about how many international students there are in your class(specifically college of design) since I am applying from China. I want to know how much chance I got! Thanks!!!

      I dont have an exact number but more than one fourth of my class are international students, so Im sure you have a good chance too! :)

    In terms of the portfolio, do you think creativity is more important than skill?

    • @juliechoi
      @juliechoi  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Its hard for me to give a solid answer but try focusing on the way you approach ideas and how creative you can get. I'd say the process is more important than the actual result because they do look for people who really dig deep into different approaches. Just know that they are not looking for perfection in students!

    Hi! I don't know if you mentioned it in the video, but if you don't mind me asking - what kind of grades did you get throughout high school/stats? Thanks so much!

    Hi!!! I love your video! It's so helpful for me!! I learned a lot about CMU design from your videos. I am applying to CMU through ED this year(deadline in a month). I am not sure on my major(either engineering or designing), and I don't have a portfolio ready, so should I go undecided? Would it be hard to go from undecided to school of design? Thank you so much!!!!💕

      @juliechoi  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      there is a good chance for you either way because it's going to take a solid effort to do specifically get into school of design. Just note that even if you come to cmu as an engineering major, you have to reapply to school of design and start as a freshman to complete the whole program. Also, try looking into the BXA program at cmu because that might give you the chance to study both fields!! You can also consider minors or double majors too if you want:) hope this helps!!

    Heyyy, I'm from a non-design background and for almost a year I've been exploring and progressing in design. One thing lead to another and now I'm looking for prominent masters options. On course of which i came across cmu's MA for non-designers, which seemed like a viable option. Moreover I'm in love with the college and the work happening there. I really need your insight to improve my odds of getting in. I don't have a portfolio as such, but I'm practicing pen n paper and some digital illustrations.

      I am not sure if this would help, but there is a TH-cam channel called "the futur" that helps self-taught designers/people who are interested in becoming a designer.

    Aaaaah I can't tell you how many times I've watched this video. It was only recently that I decided that I would go into art, and I even more recently decided that design would be my major. I mostly have fine-art pieces, and I'm loaded with 5 AP classes so I don't know how much more I could include into my portfolio. This is something I've been wondering for a while but could I ask what your test scores are/high school resume? Sorry if that's a little too personal, you don't have to answer if you don't want. I think I have a pretty loaded resume built up but any help I can get would be amazing because acceptance into carnegie is literally my dream school

    • @juliechoi
      @juliechoi  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I totally feel you, and it can be really overwhelming with so much going on! If you want to know the exact numbers feel free to dm me, but I want you to know that its the portfolio that matters more than anything. I also had a lot of fine art pieces, but I feel like the process of those pieces are what matters the most because these people want to see your learning process and how you can portray that with the pieces you have. This goes for not only your portfolio but also all the other academic experiences that you have in your resume.
