    We defend it because the 2nd amendment isn't about temporary security. It is intended for last resort security which history has shown to be necessary to have. It also is a huge deterrent for foreign invasion. Not only are you fighting the military if you invade, but every single citizen. Would you invade a country with a gun behind every blade of grass? Probably not.
    Freedom comes with responsibilities and flaws. It's not an easy thing to have. If you want freedom you accept its responsibilities and flaws while doing your best to fix them without sacrificing liberty for temporary security. Mental health and decline in morality also is a big reason for a lot of American problems.

    • @MalFowler
      @MalFowler ปีที่แล้ว

      This level of gun ownership is simply put NOT NECESSARY for the freedoms that we and many other countries enjoy. I do not support the notion that civilian firearm ownership would have any real impact on modern invasion. Even with millions of Americans armed to the teeth, it's just not effective against coordinated military attacks consisting of drones, ships, and bombs.
      Even so, the FACT that we have really only use these weapons on ourselves, should be a stark reminder that many lose much more than their freedom, in contrast to the people of other free countries, that don't have such a common and avoidable sacrifice.
      If this is what you are a proponent of (protection from invasion) then military spending is your goal. That has its own major issues, but that's an entirely different subject at this point.

    The U.K. has 2,068 violent crimes per 100,000 people, the U.S. has 466 violent crimes per 100,000 people. This is according to telegraph.co.uk and BBC. Not to mention the majority of all “mass,” shootings is committed with a handgun. In the year of 2017, according to the CDC security council, there was 39,773 gun related deaths. 14,542 of those were gun homicides, 25,231 were accidental/suicide: 36.565% were actual homicides, 63.435% were accidental/suicide. Also let’s get this right, an assault weapon can be anything you assault someone with, car, knife, etc.. An Assault Rifle is a military grade weapon that for as long as you hold the trigger bullets will come out, or until you run out of ammo. Examples of these weapons are M16s, AK-47s, etc.. You may purchase these kinds of weapons only if they were made before 1986, it also requires a extremely long, and difficult, process of tests, and to see if you’re eligible. The weapon everyone wants to ban is the AR-15. The AR-15 isn’t an assault rifle, it is a semi-automatic rifle, per trigger pull a bullet will come out, Examples: M14, SKS, AR-15, etc.. The AR-15, and other semi-autos, are one of the least likely weapons used in “mass,” shootings. Since 1950, according to USA Today, the all mass shootings have occurred, except for one, in gun free zones. Something interesting to go along with that is a certain town in Georgia by the name of Kennesaw. In 1982 the city passed a law that required all head of households are to have a firearm, the town saw a 89% decrease in its burglary rate, compared to the 10.4% drop of the whole state. Today Kennesaw has 85% lower crime rate compared to the National average. This was all recorded by Gary Kleck’s “Crime Control through the Private use of Armed Force.”

    Look again, i think you'll find the UK has actually had 4, not that its a good thing or anything.
    Something you might not of also known is that the first mass shooting here was similar to the Sandy Hook massacre, overnight Britains gun laws and control changed to its current state over night. And it's been this way since.
    That's the thing i don't get about the Americans, they've had one, hell hundreds by the looks of it but the people still seem more concerned over their gun culture then lives of children.
    I think the Americans need to wake up and smell the coffee, like Obama said, the US is the only developed country you still see this stuff happening on a regular basis.
    Remember that when US rights and laws around guns were originally created, guns were muskets that had a pathetic range, stopping power and took about 10 minutes to reload after every shot .
    I don't think the founding fathers considered the leap in technology one day, i think they'd of reconsidered if they could see what's the standard now.

    • @MrHellested

      MrHellested So in the event of a school shooting the killer might get one kill and in the one minute 45 seconds the gunman would most defiantly have been taken out.
      Compared to any automatic weapon of today.
      I'm just trying to put into perspective, the founding farthers could never have guessed what the technology would be capable of in 50, 100, 200 years time etc.

    • @MrHellested
      @MrHellested 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      your right. you can just use a knife and do it much quicker, cleaner, and quietly. It's not a gun problem. It's a people problem. Did you here of the terrorist attack in Texas a while ago? Of course not because the only ones that died were the terrorists. The media only publicizes the negative.This is in a state that has little to no gun control. California has the most strict gun control and 14 people were killed by terrorist. All these mass shootings happen in areas that are "gun free".

    • @baitposter
      @baitposter 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +MrHellested Guns are more convenient and encouraging than the brutish physicality of knives. They're an enabler. Removing guns does't eliminate monstrous people, but it serves as an inconvenience to the comparatively less determined ones, like how bars on a house is a deterrent and practical inconvenience to burglars. Fewer deaths overall is a true increase in security.

    • @benji7662
      @benji7662 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      JustAnotherGaian There will always be bad people in every country.
      Giving those people potential easy access to the best killing machines on the planet doesn't help though.
      I mean at least with a knife you have a much, much higher chance of defending yourself, nothing you can do about a bullet.
      The way Americans see it though is that you're only taking guns from the good guys and the result would be more bad guys with guns.
      For a while yea it probably would be like that, they have a lot of guns to find.
      But eventually the US would see a drop in all types of crime.
      Like you said, guns are an enabler, they may encourage someone to go through with the crime, you have a greater sense of confidence and security.
      Without one though, even with a knife, attempting the crime suddenly becomes less appealing, because it fail in so many ways and probably will.
      We in the UK are not defenseless from criminals with guns. If a criminal has a gun, then so do the cops. They break it all out, in fact they'll break out the sniper rifles and SMG's for a dude walking around with a Machete so..
      It doesn't matter if i a citizen had one, i don't want to be in a firefight risking my life over some nut jobs religious beliefs or some shit. Even with a gun i'm getting the fuck out of there.

      +Lewis Turner I would imagine that they're considering total US military deaths, which are listed as ~120,000 for WWI and ~410,000 for WWII (by the DoJ). Even though they worded it poorly, it remains a valid point given that the "official" numbers line up with their statement.

    • @SlayerG12345
      @SlayerG12345 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +liberty2014 I assume you meant "suicides by firearm" in your first sentence. Even ignoring suicides, accidental, and negligent deaths, you're still looking at more than 200,000 firearm homicides which is a high number for that time span. Keep in mind that the 120,000 for WWI and 410,000 for WWII figures I referenced above also include suicides, accidental, negligent, and disease-related deaths. Excluding those figures and looking purely at combat deaths, you are looking at ~54,000 for WWI and ~292,000 for WWII. The civil war had roughly ~215,000 deaths. So you're still looking at a firearms homicide figure since 1997 that is nearly on par with the 2nd deadliest war, in terms of combat-related deaths, in the history of this country. That's still way too high any way you look at it. I both agree and disagree with your point that it pads the numbers to make political points. Frankly, I think the people trying to make these points would be far better off if they just separated homicides / suicides / accidental deaths out and came up with respective comparisons to the figures individually, given that they are still very high. When they don't, it only serves to undermine their point.
      Also, the Japan to US comparison is about as apples to oranges as it gets. Japan is somewhat unique, along with several other Asian countries, in that the act of suicide actually has a positive connotation as an honorable act (Bushido code) in order to avoid situations of defeat / shame. On top of that, nearly 70% of the country is areligious and the other 30% associate with Buddhism / Shintoism, which are both fairly ambiguous regarding suicide. Compare that to the US where no such positive connotation exists. The exact opposite is true, as suicide is seen as a mortal sin by Christians (70%+ of the population) and has been condemned as cowardly / "the easy way out" culturally. Given that major discrepancy between the two countries, it's utterly meaningless to compare them on suicide rates.
      Also, when it comes to suicide, there is an elephant in the room (mental illness) that no one really wants to talk about or deal with in a meaningful way. Sure, people would still kill themselves, but guns make it a hell of a lot easier to do so. A lot of folks 'pull the trigger' so to speak on suicide attempts by other means, yet fail to follow through, which in some cases leads to them getting the help that they need, though not nearly often enough. Someone with a gun in the same situation doesn't get to have that second chance once they've 'pulled the trigger'. Unfortunately, we've stigmatized mental health in this country to the point where people don't / won't seek the help that they need on their own (and often folks who know others with problems do nothing to help) and they have to hit those extremes, often multiple times, before they finally seek out help, if they ever do. Unfortunately, when they hit rock-bottom with a gun in their hand, they aren't coming back.

    • @SlayerG12345
      @SlayerG12345 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +liberty2014 I'm not sure where you're getting a period of 30 or 70 years from. I've been discussing a 19 year period from 1997-2015, during which there have been roughly 48,500,000 American deaths. Even extending out to 30 or 70 years, there is no possible way 500,000,000 Americans have died in either of those spans (not even combined). Your 500,000,000 figure is well over the ENTIRE number of Americans that have died since the inception of the country!
      More than 20,000 a year committing suicide by firearms and over 11,000 homicides by firearms per year should not be considered negligible. These are nearly all preventable deaths. I'm not an advocate for full-fledged gun control, but gun education in this country absolutely needs to improve and there needs to be a drastic change made to keep guns safely out of the hands of those who are mentally unstable, as well as initiatives to provide those people with the aid that they need.
      That said, yes, there are other things that also need to be addressed, but life is complex. Managing multiple things at once is necessary and there is no reason that we can't try to reduce mortality from more complex issues (cancer, cardiovascular disease, mental health, etc.) while also attempting to prevent it in other more easily preventable areas. (firearm-related deaths, vehicular deaths, etc.) Following your logic, we should never have bothered to enact seat-belt laws, because cancer and cardiovascular disease kill far more people.

  • @thedarkwolf3047
    @thedarkwolf3047 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yeah but you can go-ahead and lower that 401 stat by 60% due to suicide. So now that number is around 160 after correcting that you can also factor in a whole bunch of other variables which will lower it even further but that's beside the point. The majority of people getting killed by firearms are violent gang members shooting at other gang members. So if you keep your head out of the wrong crowd and be a law abiding citizen with your firearms your chances of getting killed by a gun drops to what you'd expect from a European country. And the possibility that you might encounter a violent individual intent on doing harm to you makes me want to have a gun for self protection. Guns aren't toys it's true they're dangerous things. But I think it's the mindset of whether or not you'd rather live “safe” and with less liberties or more “ dangerous” but with more liberties. And you'll see that divide between state lines and democracy on how people vote and the laws being passed. So I say let's be grateful with being able to live in a country where this question on gun laws reflect the native culture of that region of the states on how strict your gun laws or not. You have the ability to move or stay to which states you agree with the most. Now whether you'd actually be safer moving to places like Detroit with some of the strictest gun laws in the nation is another matter but hey that's your choice.

    But who is to say that the homicides would be less if there were NO guns.... I very much doubt that the absence of guns would make a measurable difference to homicides. The problem is violence, not the means by which it is expressed.
    NZ, for instance, has an appalling record for infanticide, and these children are never shot, but they are just as dead.
    NZ has about 1.5 million guns with a population of 4 million.Quite heavily armed, us Kiwis. 250,000 of us are licensed (like a permanent NICS system) and possess most of the guns.
    The criminals, gang members and drug dealers of course have whatever they like, and sometimes shoot each other in 'turf wars', which of course our home grown 'snowflakes' use as a reason to propose more gun laws.

And you would see things like what's happening in the UK, Acid attacks, Higher rates of knife attacks, Terrorists running people over, etc.

    Also, their firearm homicide rates of other countries per 10 million isn't accurate. Possibly some of them, but the UK one is orders of magnitude higher than listed on this video. And of course for the US, again they combine suicides to that number which makes up over half, closer to 60% of that number. Compare homicides only, compare mass killings of any kind, these countries start to look very similar except less people can defend themselves.

It's up to the citizens of that odd one out nation to work out that being rich and developed does not make you a civilised nation if your chances of being the victim of a mass murder are only marginally less than they are in some of the world's unstable nations.

    There was no argument made in this video, just a statement of some facts that you're supposed to believe you can draw causation from. This means nothing and is simply leading the viewer to a conclusion that is false.

    So...please explain El Salvador. Statistically they have about 5.8 guns per 100 people, but they have the highest murder rate of any country in the world, at 108.64 per 100k people. About double the US, who by your own numbers has half the guns in the world. Could it be that criminals (the kind of people who commit murder) are the problem, not guns?

    Since when do mass murderers oblige to random guns laws if they're willing to kill? In a free society, individuals have the freedom to do stupid things - and deal with the consequences. All we can do is hold people accountable for their actions through the justice system. Preemptively chipping away at the rights of the masses through over-reaching laws doesn't stop somebody willing to break the laws....just sayin'. Drunk drivers don't care about drinking laws, but if they get busted and a judge tells them not to drive, you don't ban cars for everybody.

    Unsurprisingly, CNN failed to mention that a large majority of these firearm related crimes occur in the same jurisdictions that elect left-leaning officials govern. Most of the time, cities with strict gun control laws are the same ones whose police departments are utilized as deceased-body collective services. My parent country (Mx), firearm ownership was nearly legally impossible, and yet people die at the hands of bad guys who happen to use guns. People on the left always cry that Muslims aren’t bad, Mexicans aren’t bad, white people aren’t racist, blacks aren’t criminals, etc., but why must they group every responsible gun owner with the few bad apples who most likely were prohibited by law to own guns to begin with?

    Whats strange is that no one of the anti-gun persuasion ever talks about the easy availability of RPGs and shoulder-fired ground-to-air missiles and grenades and landmines and high explosives and all those other weapons that TEND to be just a little more destructive than the average gun owned by the average American in many areas of the world. Its almost like the U.S. is the ONLY country with a dedicated government agency specifically designated for, tasked with and responsible for regulation and control and permission and licensing of that type of hardware.
    How about it, anti-gunners? Are you as concerned about the availability of heavy weapons on street corners of cities all over the world as you are about law-abiding Americans having "military weapons" that actually aren't? And why isn't the U.S. using its considerable influence, power and prestige worldwide to address THOSE issues instead of investing so much time, effort and money in trying to screw Americans out of OUR God-given right to defend ourselves.
    Was that compound in Benghazi attacked with semi-auto ARs and high-capacity pistols or hardware of a little more powerful and effective nature?

    So since the US is obviously much more populous than the the European countries in question or Australia, when we talk about the total number of guns, we talk about guns per 100 persons, which is valid. Then when we talk about "mass" shootings we talk about the number of shooting, period. Suddenly we don't look at per capita numbers. Guess whose narrative is being spun here. CNN...so much for journalistic integrity.

    How many of the listed gun deaths were murder? Accident? Suicide? Does the U.S. lead massively in murder? What about the fact that the rate of gun crimes has actually decreased? Depending on how you look at the data you could say the U.S. is good or bad. However, we know criminals still get guns regardless. We also know that murders happen without guns. As do suicides.

    Government owned guns such as police and military guns must be added to equations like that too. North Korea has virtually no civilian owned guns, but its one of the most militarized society. But by looking at the "civilian gun ownership statistics" alone, you would assume they are all just unarmed society. Lets not forget, that its the ordinary people, that make up militias and military. So in that sense, North Korea is one of the most armed societies in the world. There is no need for the black and white separation between "government guns" and "civilian guns". Also, many governments allow people to take "military issue guns" to they'r homes.

  • @ecuanalyst

    I'm not a Gun History or statistics expert, but I think that it's invalid to simply compare the number of guns for each country and/or based on economic categorizations. Example, unlike the UK, Switzerland, Germany, etc the US has a much larger number of Hunters and sport shooters. So, probably 1/2 of the guns in America were made for hunting and rarely used in the commission of crimes. Also, at least 5% of gun owners are professional collectors, owning over 50 firearms. Even, the majority of gun owners and hunters own 10+ or more. So, you are comparing the US where there is hunting in pretty much every state in the country to counties that only have hunting in isolated parts of the country. Also, you are making a direct correlation to the number of guns to the number of deaths by guns, but if this is true those owners with the most number of guns should have killed more people than those with fewer, when I can guarantee this in not the case because if you can afford a large number of firearms you are a fairly well off law abiding citizen and far less likely to have a motive to use the gun for the commission of a crime. Its the people who only by 3-5 guns who you need to worry about because they bought them for a reason other than hunting or general self defense.

    How much of gun-related issues were created by the war on drugs and mass incarcerations? 100% Victims buying guns to be less a victim because they got victimized by drug-related crime caused by the drug war. 100% People are afraid of the poor and the powerless because of issues with corporate robbery and exploitation, limiting salaries for employees so that they are working poor and lack of corporate taxes to help the poor and maintain a proper social infrastructure. Lack of social services to limit the amount of individual in a "no loss" situation to turn to anything to survive. Fix this you won't have as much violence.

    The real question is do "mass shootings" matter, statistically? Also this video mixes up statistics of mass shootings with the generic "gun deaths", which will include accidents, police or justified shootings and suicides. Statistically the people killed in mass shootings per year is very low compared to vehicles, medical malpractice or lifestyle related deaths but only mass shootings get hyped because there is an agenda by those in power, elites and their media lackeys to disarm the people.

    Aaaand more than half are from suicides. Just more nonsense. I find it odd that within your own stats of 5% owning let's be generous 40% of all guns that gun homicides only account for less than 10% of all homicides. But it's a complicated task to break down all the finer points. More people are killed by car by such a large margin it makes all these stats look silly.

    They say gun Related deaths but that is excluding people impropory handling a firearm, suicides, and lives being taken from intruders or other criminals. Also, they forgot how many innocent lives are saved which outnumber innocent lives being taken on purpose by guns
