I have this old Raven .25 cal. Sometimes it's semi-auto and other times I have to manually operate the bolt to get a new round in the chamber. So I guess that gun is semi-semi-auto.

And again in the 1960's with the Gun Control Act, the 1980's with the Hughes Amendment to the Firearm Owners Protection Act which banned newly manufactured machineguns for civilians, the 1990's with the 'Assault Weapons' Ban, and many more. We dont live in areas of cities like L.A., Chicago, and NY, and have dysfunctional households. That's where the violence is. Deal with criminals, not the hundreds of millions of law abiding citizens like you and me. My guess is they are trying to change the nomenclature so that 10 rounds becomes the standard. If you looked at it from an end-game standpoint (assuming a bill had passed reducing the largest size to ten rounds), you wouldn't want people calling the 10 rounders low capacity and 30 rounders standard because people would vote to have the law reversed. I think it is intentional,; not caused by ignorance.

@@disk1706 I think 'novice' is a bit of a strong word but it seems he is referring to high level skill sets which are of course present in the military and law enforcement but not common. Based on my experience at public rangers that same proficiency is far more scarce in the general public. But if you get off grid just a bid, it's startling what you can find.

The amount of time that it would take a shooter to change limited capacity mags wouldn't make a much of difference. Much like guns, the technology developed from competing against one another finds practical uses in the civilian markets. Even my motorcycle helmet has a duck tail spoiler that makes it one of the most aerodynamically stable helmets I've worn. Does it keep me planted to the bike? No. Does it prevent turbulent air from causing head shaking? Yes.

Right -- that .22 caliber, 55 grain MONSTER of a bullet. It should tell them something that several states already ban the .223 for hunting due to its relatively low kinetic energy. Minimum caliber for deer in WA is .240. I just looked up some ballistics data on ammo from various manufacturers, and picked one from the middle of the pack. The .308 cartridge has 2.38 times as much kinetic energy as the .223 in the same brand.
Actually an AR-15 fires a relatively small .224 bullet weighing between 50-77 grains. It is not a long range firearm. The weapons rounds are not considered powerful enough to hunt deer in most states. We need to switch to more powerful weapons like M1 Garands and other really powerful rifles. Lets upgrade to .308x51, or 30-06!

My guess is they are trying to change the nomenclature so that 10 rounds becomes the standard. If you looked at it from an end-game standpoint (assuming a bill had passed reducing the largest size to ten rounds), you wouldn't want people calling the 10 rounders low capacity and 30 rounders standard because people would vote to have the law reversed. I think it is intentional,; not caused by ignorance.

2nd Amendment say's that civilians MUST be allowed to own firearms correct? It says NOTHING about which firearms, that comes from the Supreme Court.
All firearms with a magazine capacity of more than 5 rounds say could be banned in the US and the 2nd Amendment would be PERFECTLY fine as firearms with capacities less than 5 rounds are still legal.

We need to avoid playing their game by discussing which guns are more dangerous when speaking in mixed company. Personally, I think it's worth a few extra words even when talking within the firearms community to build a habit that will serve me well in all discussions, to avoid having my meaning misinterpreted or inadvertently carrying water for gun banners who want to ban the most dangerous guns first, with the knowledge that there will always be another group of dangerous guns that need to be banned so we can all "feel safe".

@@disk1706 I think 'novice' is a bit of a strong word but it seems he is referring to high level skill sets which are of course present in the military and law enforcement but not common. Based on my experience at public rangers that same proficiency is far more scarce in the general public. But if you get off grid just a bid, it's startling what you can find.

Much like guns, the technology developed from competing against one another finds practical uses in the civilian markets.
Even my motorcycle helmet has a duck tail spoiler that makes it one of the most aerodynamically stable helmets I've worn.
Does it keep me planted to the bike? No.
Does it prevent turbulent air from causing head shaking? Yes.

Right -- that .22 caliber, 55 grain MONSTER of a bullet. It should tell them something that several states already ban the .223 for hunting due to its relatively low kinetic energy. Minimum caliber for deer in WA is .240.
I just looked up some ballistics data on ammo from various manufacturers, and picked one from the middle of the pack. The .308 cartridge has 2.38 times as much kinetic energy as the .223 in the same brand.

Actually an AR-15 fires a relatively small .224 bullet weighing between 50-77 grains. It is not a long range firearm. The weapons rounds are not considered powerful enough to hunt deer in most states. We need to switch to more powerful weapons like M1 Garands and other really powerful rifles. Lets upgrade to .308x51, or 30-06!
