1. Tariffs are paid by the importer, who then passes that along to consumers - so it is a tax paid upfront, consumers are still paying.
2. "I understand some Canadians don't like this" being annexed lol ok buddy - good luck with that.
3. "We are basically family" (Canada and the USA) - family does impose unnecessary tariffs. Everyone I know (Candian) now absolutely has disdain for America and Americans. No way in hell with Canada joining with America; our values are entirely different.
4. We work 40 hours a week and more.
5. Our GDP per capita.... Ireland, Switzerland, Norway, Singapore, Luxembourg have higher GDP's than the USA
The fact of the matter is Canada and Canada feel burnt by America and are actively seeking a way to diversify our supply chain; this was a wake-up call.

Canada has escaped US annexation for hundreds of years and survived tariffs before. Both counties are children of England, but Canada only gained full independence after World War 2 freely, but the USA had to separate with a revolution. Many Canadians are descendants of members of the 13 colonies that remained loyal to the English crown, and many are still loyal to this day. Culturally both countries are very similar, but Canada has a large French speaking population (due to areas colonized by France). Canada is already dealing with the constant threat of our most French province Quebec asking to separate and become independent, and that's after tons of appeasement for the French language in Canada. Does the US really want that sort of head-ache as Quebec? Quebecers are not impressed by what happened to the French language in the USA (Louisiana purchase). And another big issue is that Canadians really value our public healthcare system despite its flaws, so the US would need to maintain that healthcare system if it has a hope of annexing Canada peacefully. It's very cold in Canada, if part of the USA, a public healthcare area would maintain some incentive to live in the cold or all annexed Canadians might move to Florida or Texas. I'm not sure how much loyalty to the English crown survives in Canada, but its probably lower than when Queen Elizabeth was still alive. However loyalty to the English crown could still play a role in any possible Canadian annexation, as King Charles is currently Canada's head of state (not Justin Trudeau).

Canada has super high tariffs already on USA goods. 270% on USA dairy for example. If they match our 25% that would actually be lowering tariffs on USA goods. Why is every country on earth allowed to tariff USA goods but when the USA imposes very reasonable tariffs it's the end of the world. Cry me a river.
As a Canadian I don't want American dairy. Not because of bias, but due to American health standards. Same with us food. The tariff on USA goods is because at the time it was imposed, giant american mega farms were crushing Canadian farmers who were mostly small. Same reason the US imposes a 50% tariff on China. It's the only way your manufacturing sector can compete.

Most things enter Canada tariff free. Milk and eggs an exception. We have a supply management system in places around those key items. As a result we don't have shortages of milk or eggs. Our eggs are what $3/dozen. I understand the US has egg shortages, maybe they should look at coping our system up here.
