Your video really put me at ease. I wasn’t going to rent with AVIS…but I had pulled the trigger with Alamo even though in my case they were the most expensive. We’re traveling with a young child to San Diego and their reviews were second to none. I couldn’t put my family through the bs of dealing with a thug rental agent. Anyway, hearing someone talk about their experience has more impact than reading a review. So thank you.
@@NCMemoryMakers Thank you for asking. It was amazing. The way I was greeted and spoken to immediately let me know why they cost a little more than their competitors. They did not attempt to up sell me anything and picking up and dropping off was rapid. They were everything I needed them to be. Absolutely worth it.
Just wanted to convey that I just completed another very positive experience with Alamo. Had a rental for a week @ Fort Myers Airport. Polite and without incident.
Really informative, thanks for sharing. Since 2005, I only rent through Alamo when I go to the US for a couple of reasons 1) You can register on line and skip the counter, going straight to the lane of cars in your category and selecting the one I want. 2) When checking back in, the attendant has everything to hand, including any additional charges (tolls) etc, and tells you that all is good to go. I have always found the experience simple and stress free, even prior to online registration. ( I have used Alamo in SFO, LAX, LAS, MCO, MIA, DTW, CVG JFK as well as other airports multiple times.) I have had experience with Dollar, Avis in the past and while no major problems, they do try their best to upsell things you don't need, but to them they are essential. Thanks again for the report.
Hello, could you please help me? I just booked a car for rent through Alamo's site, I am 22 years old and I am travelling with my gf, I wanted to know if I have to put a deposit when I arrive to JFK or don't, and if I have to hoe much it is. Thank you
Glad you had a better experience with Alamo. Our last car rental was with Hertz and it was a good experience. Definitely good tips about document any issues with picture/video.
Yes, other than the rough start with the dirty vehicle, this experience was much better. Kept it a day longer, and paid less money. No headaches after the fact. Glad you all had a good experience with Hertz, as well. Thank you for watching!
Alamo is the only car rental I use after having bad experiences with shyster companies like Budget at Payless that try to force you into taking optional insurance when you already have car insurance. In Las Vegas late at night the lady at Budget refused to rent us a car unless I showed her our car insurance policy - who has a policy with them? Then she would not even give us back our deposit. It took me two days dealing with Budget just to get my deposit back. Never again. At Alamo you walk up to the kiosk, pick out a car, and you are on your way. And never any surprise charges. We had a flat in California in 2021, and they quickly just got us a new car. No charges even though we didn't take out the extra hazard insurance.
This is a very informative review. On our last rental we also documented the vehicle on the phone and then had the rental office verify what we had found. One note, if you travel the Florida Turnpike, the toll booths have been replaced with scanners and an invoice is sent in the mail. We have for several years used a Florida Sunpass which actually has a lower toll rate than paying with cash.
Yes, many places have replaced the toll booths. I'm glad that wasn't the case on the Sunshine Skyway. I was concerned about that before I looked it up.
Good information. When I rent from the UK we have to buy a 'full package' all taxes, insurances CDW etc. I have used al the major companies my favourite is Alamo least favourite Budget. Many are owned by other e.g. Dollar and Thrifty same company Avis, budget. I have experienced several attempts of personal trying to add extras I did not want or request the worst offenders Budget, guess they know many non USA are not familiar with such things along with being tired with a long flight. Maybe the poor service such as dirty cars etc is labour shortage as we have in the UK. Good tips filming the car Thanks for the video.
That doesn't surprise me about Budget, since they're the same company as Avis now. I used to rent from them, and never had an issue until that incident last year. Never again.
Dollar , and Thrifty are owned by Hertz and Hertz treats them as lesser brands . Another company is Budget / Avis . The biggest rental company is Enterprise which owns Enterprise Alamo and National . Enterprise uses its cars interchangeably so on one rental it may be used under one brand and then on next rental it may be used by another one if their brands .
Does someone know if National or Alamo has the nicer car ? It's owned by Enterprise holding both. But about the vehicles, which company has the best suv ? Thanks ^^
I actually don't remember that for sure, but I don't think so. Even if they did, there was no hassle in having it refunded. Everything went smooth with them. I don't remember them even doing that, though.
I'm sure they asked for a credit card to hold the reservation, but I don't remember putting up a deposit. Pretty much any rental company is going to require a credit card to hold the reservation.
@@NCMemoryMakers so, if when i book it online, final price is 475$ for a week,it means i will only pay this ammount of money ? any other hidden fees once you arrive to their office ? thanks for your response
@@kinsasOur final total was the same as the estimated total. I personally have never had the final amount exceed the estimate. They WILL try to ask you if you want their insurance coverage. I normally decline, because our own insurance will cover us in a rental. You might want to talk to your insurance company, to make sure that is the case there. They will also ask you if you want to bring the gas tank back full. Make sure and do that, because it will cost you more to have them fill it up when you return.

So glad it was helpful. Our experience with Alamo was light years better than that with Avis.
I am curious as to how your experience with Alamo went?

Always appreciate a thorough honest review. Good tips. Things use to be so easy. I always have a good experience with people in Knoxville.

We will definitely use them in the future.

We have never rented from National, so I'm afraid we can't make a comparison. Sorry.

Did they take anything like deposit hold?Like other rental companies, they take a hold when renting a car. Just wondering. Thanks

We always did, too. But unfortunately, we learned that Avis has bought Budget. So, they are essentially the same company now.
