Man am I glad this storm is completely going around where I live in Wisconsin.
People don't know how to slowdown and use caution in the snow.
This looks like about 5-6". We got almost 2' last Monday from just lake effect. We expect 8-12" overnight Sunday from this.
I'm laughing because this totally missed us in Janesville, but there's still Feb, Mar. April..

Dang! Snow here, winds & fires in Kansas ! Looks like Iowa got it worse than Nebraska.
I went through Des Moines early Friday morning, roads weren't bad yet. Couple of morons here and there but thankfully I got out of there before the storm hit. Currently in Walcott Iowa and it's gotten pretty bad here. Lots of snow and wind, roads are absolute crap. Virtually no plows going through until the storm dies down. They just can't keep up and there's really no point in trying. Mother nature will always win. Stay off the roads unless it's an emergency .
Yep you left Des Moines ahead of the storm but since you stopped in Walcott it caught up to you bc it's moving eastbound.
I've lived in Minnesota for 68 years drove semi in the metro area for 45 years snow is no big deal if you use the wright HEAD to think with But freezing rain then snow, just stay home!!

We had an unexpected freezing rain and even in Maine it caught everyone off guard including DOT that would otherwise be prepared...can't battle any untreated road. It doesn't matter where you're at. And of course, people think they can drive fine 'slowly'...not in ice. Unless you had studs or chains it's just impossible. So many crashes too :\
Just missed this one..departed des moines area just hours before this mess hit.
Called people slow down.. or better yet how about putting snow tires on vehicles..

I live in IA and foolishly decided to take my modified Stang to work (Ames to Nevada). My Stang is about 500~ hp with no weight in the trunk. I knew snow was coming but the prediction was less than 2"...hence I took the Stang. Nevada and Ames ended up with ~6" snow. Luckily I have all brand new Nitto tires but the drive home @11pm was still a white-knuckle ride.
I was born and raised here in the Arizona desert 🏜.. This is just TOO COLD for mee.. 😳
I moved here to Des Moines from Miami, go figure.
I told someone with stupid amounts of money to get snow tires for winter. Told me its not worth it. Can't leave his own property now. More storms to come and he is worried about money...
We are still snowed in. 18" according to the ruler I left in the yard and blowing snow left 4' drifts in our yards.
My snow tires are loud but they stay on the truck all year . Why drive fast If you have never driven on ice or snow? I blew a foot of snow out of my drive here on Manitoulin Island and It was 25 below F. That is a thin layer of snow by Canadian standards. Stay home or slow down and leave plenty of distance between vehicles.
Same thing here in Albert Lea, MN at the time.
SADLY IN AMERICA WINTER TIRES ARE "NOT" MANDATORY!!
The closer I to home, the worse the roads got. Had snow drifts clear up the grill of my little suv. If my vehicle didn’t have good tires and 4X4, I’d be in a ditch. Won’t even be able to get to work due to the roads being as bad as there in town.
Momentum is everything.

In Michigan, we always know who are the incompetent drivers. They'll be on the side of the road morning after 1st snow storm.
I wish everyone could install a set of winter tires. At least if you have no choice but to drive in this kind of weather, you could still have some level of protection.
Why is there tape on the vehicles?
Those vehicles were checked for injured passengers and there is nobody inside. Marked with tapes prevents multiple police or fire crew checking same vehicles and wasting time.
Wouldn’t be so slick if they’d put their blades down and scrape the road instead of trying to salt it off
