I was not able to properly prepare for mine because he was a rescue from our pool and we just decided to keep him. He’s got the basics in his tank but I’m doing as much research as I can ❤️
Yo same I found my 1st turtle in a small glass vase on the sidewalk one day and this one was just passed to me from a friend who said he knew someone to take care of it😭😭
Tip: If you see these at carnivals as a 'prize', please do not take it unless you are fully aware of what you are getting into. These turtles need an aquarium, heat/uav lights, the tank will need a filtration system... it's a lot of work. My daughter got hers at a carnival as a prize, 9 years later and he's still hanging out with us. They are a lot of work and $$. But worth it in the end.
I found my yellow bellied slider in the skimmer of my pool. I live in St Pete Florida where apparently someone has been releasing them. I started out with 10 gallon aquarium and just transferred "Mack" aka MacKenzie, I believe she si female to a 20 gallon aquarium. I have 75 gallon aquarium that I will be transferring her to.
When I eventually have my own little house in Japan, I'm getting a yellow bellied slider for a pet so I can make an awesome tank for them! Outside in Japan's weather is no place for any non-native reptile, so I'll have to pass up on the cool outdoor habitat. I'd have a fish tank, but fish don't live very long. The reason for why a turtle specifically compared to other pets is because my cousin had a pet turtle named The Dude, and I wanted to get a turtle to name him Dude Jr.
2 years ago we found 13 baby red eared sliders in our pool in ohio. W kept 6 and put them in a tank and 4 of them have died since then and we are getting them a bigger tank today. I know I don’t have The same type of turtle but thank you for the tUrtle help
Ive seen so many yellow belly and red ears in cape coral, probably from owners releasing them into canals, them breeding, and then the populus growing.
My YBS lived in my pond. From small babies to decent sized Juveniles. But the rain came and the water rose too high and they got out and walked away. They are probably in one of the many Creeks close by. My next enclosure will be built with higher walls. And they will be able to get out on land instead of just a log and a breeder box.
Just discovered a newly hatched here in pompano Beach Florida abandoned in my parking lot. It was literally crawling through glass barely a couple days old. There's no fresh water near by i have no clue how he got there. He's the size of a quarter and still has his little egg beak. I have him in a TEMPORARY 3 gallon as an emergency set up
Well if it is a native you can find a pond and release it or take it to a local wildlife sanctuary or hopefully they can care for it. If it is not native you can keep it as a pet and do your research and find out all its needs are how big it's going to get in to your best to care for it.
We are about to adapt a baby YBS. Thank you for the video! One quick question: Do you need a heat emmiter at night? I know they need day-night cycle, so no lights are necessary, but wondering if no lights at all will make the little baby cold at night, so thinking to get a heat emmiter for the night. Any thoughts?
I would get a heater for the water but no night time she usually be fine think about what they go through in the wild as long as your house isn't below 60 they should be okay
Two quetions, i have two turtles, one red eared and one yellow bellied. First quetion is: is it good that i have them together? Two times the yellow bellied bitten the red eared. I got them appart for about a week and it never happened again. Second quetion is: the yellow bellied is about four months younger than the red eared, although it's much bigger, they are 5 years old. In the pet shop, they told us that it would be good if we could tranfern them in to a bigger tank. But is it really good that it's getting big that fast while the other is staying small? I believe it happens because the red eared eats more slowly and sometimes the other eats its food too. Sometimes i separete them when i feed them. Thank you for your time. I'm sorry if i said too much but i'm worrying. Also i'm sorry if there's any grammar mistakes.
Yellow bellies tend to be a little more aggressive however I don't think they will do permanent damage to one another they do grow at different sizes but they might also be being aggressive because there is not enough room in the tank. Both species can get up to a foot so it might be a good idea to upgrade them into the biggest thing possible and then you could try to keep them together. At any point in their life after about 6 months you really need something bigger than 40 gallons. It is good that you are feeding them separately if one is not getting enough food. I hope this was helpful

I just got mine yesterday, she or he is still a baby I need help on how to take care of him or her , I don't know where to get his or her food from , I don't even know if it's a boy or girl , will you be able to give me the links for the websites to where I need to get the food from , does a bucket about 24 inches and 24 feet long? Or do I need to go a bigger size , I'm kind of new to this turtle thing I've recently gotten a box turtle and she's almost 4
My boyfriend and I bought two baby slider turtles and right now we have them in a 20 gallon tank. They’re super tiny right now. But now I’m worried how big they’re going to get and giant tanks are really expensive and take up so much space. What size tank do you think would be good for two grown sliders?
man i have 2 adult turtles and whoever i asked told me are yellow bellied but i dont think so... both have yellow bellies but one has no spots and the other is full of dark spots and carapace of one is light brown and other's is very dark brown. what are they?
To be honest I would have to get a look at them however same species can still look very different from one another just look at humans. You might have a kind of mutation or subspecies if they were bred in human care they might have been part of selective breeding. But without a picture I can't give you any better description I apologize.
I love turtles so my parents decided to just buy me 2 for my birthday after a trip from Florida🤣😭, than I was stuck having to research and figure out what they need quickly, I've had them for about 4 months now, they were 1 momth old when I got them😁. I love them like my own babies, and I've already upgraded them to a 40 gallon tank. Hopefully I can get above 100 gallons when I have my own home, or better yet invest in a koi pond. They were supper scared of me when I first got them, but they have gotten so comfortable with me now, I can put my hand in the water and play with them, they will readily swim into my hand to be picked up since I move them in a separate box everytime I feed them. And occasionally I'll put some food near my palm in the water from witch they will eat, I can walk up to them wile they bask without them scuddling back in the water... except for the smaller one (squirt) she is still a bit uncomfterable w me approaching too fast, but the bigger one (pez) is my strong brave girl🤣
How big is the turtle? Food child be too big. Try some ground beef and since leafy greens. If problem continues there may be a medical issue and you need to see a vet. If you took the turtle from the wild or it back. Then it will be fine.

Well first thing when you ever get a new reptile that someone else oversaw I would always take them to the vet. The more sunlight the better so that is definitely a good thing you were doing. As far as the white thing goes it could be a mold or a fungus if you can't get it off with a toothbrush I would say get them to the vet to check it out. Good for you for being on top of things.
@@rangerrobfmb6342 turns out my turtles was a red eared sliders, but good news the white thing had came off from Lumine! Shes a really healthy turtle now, really loves eating!
There are a few things that can cause this one it could have been an injury so it might just be healing, it could be a bacterial infection in which case you'd have to go to the vet and get antibiotics, there could be something inside the eyelid or around the eye that is making it swollen in which case you would also have to go to the vet. If you can safely try and clean it with distilled water and a q-tip you could try that but I wouldn't recommend it if you've never done anything like that before.

Belly markings when younger
