Everyone at the memorial was in the bar watching the game because it's really what my uncle would have wanted us to do. It was a really bittersweet moment for us. Everyone screaming and crying and cheering and bawling. It was something else.
Hockey is religion in Canada. That game was so magical. The entire country watched and united over our passion for, “The good old hockey game.” Classic.
I live in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. That's where the 2010 Winter Olympics were held along with whistler. Canadians are not exceptionally known for being extremely patriotic but during that period it was so frickin awesome seeing so many people waving the Canadian flag on the streets, impromptu celebrations, strangers hugging each other. It happened to be the most gold medals Canada would get as well
I lived in Vancouver during the 2010 Olympics and that day I will NEVER forget! It was insane! My friends and I tried to find a place downtown to watch the game but every single pub was completely overflowing with people and we couldn't get in. Finally we decided to watch it at our friend's house in North Vancouver. On the way back from downtown the streets were deserted in the middle of the day because EVERYONE was watching the game. It was almost eerie! When we won after a nail-biting finish we all went outside - like the rest of the city - everyone was in a great mood and every stranger greeted every passerby with high fives - still gives me chills.
Love your reaction. This country literally stopped. The game went into overtime and flights were delayed, I was gathered with my co workers and for the first time ever our business phone didn't ring for over an hour. This truly brought our country together and it was fitting that Canada's biggest star (Sydney Crosby) scored the goal
Still gives me chills to this day. 85% of us in Canada watched this including our troops all over the world. You could hear everyone yelling in my home town. It was a crazy Sunday night in Canada I think most of us booked off work the next day with hang overs LOL. In Canada nothing brings us together like Canada playing the world in hockey cause it's our game. Canada was winning till late in the 3rd the American's tie it sent the game to sudden death overtime so to score in OT was even bigger.
Thanks for sharing our joy ! We beat a fantastic U,S. team ! This win was the apex of a very successful Olympics in which Canada set a record for gold medals won for the Winter Olympics : something that I never could ever have believed that would happen !
I remember that game very well. Many people were in their homes, but many more were in bars, restaurants, arenas, stadiums, and parks around the country. Most of those facilities had reserved seating, and they were booked solid. I am in Alberta, near Calgary. A group of our choir went to the local pub to watch the game. What made it even sweeter, was that we beat the US!! Cars were driving around for hours, blasting their horns and flying flags. Yes we Canadians love our hockey teams!
I'm a Canadian and I've never really loved hockey but after watching this I feel like I've missed out LOL. That was an awesome video. I felt the joy and the pride just watching it 😁♥️🇨🇦
I remember this so much. The feelings the pride that we had when we beat the USA on home ICE in Vancouver for Olympic gold. This was every bar in every town and city across Canada. You could hear your neighbour’s screaming from their house. Cars driving were honking their horns. People screaming on the streets. It was a country wide party. The olympics that year was amazing for us and this and the women’s gold medal in hockey was the icing on the cake. The sad part of this though is this was the last time this country was united. This was the last time Canada was Canada. After this we became a nation divided. People choosing political views over family and friends. Letting other countries, celebrities and billionaires decide what’s best for us. It breaks my heart because I still see Canada for what we can be. This is it. We were proud and unapologetic for it. This was the first time we showed ourselves that it is ok to be proud as a nation. It’s just so sad we forgot that so fast. I hope we find our way back to this soon. Because this was Canada arts it’s best.
Hey bees thanks for the vid The reason this was so big was because it was against the united states our biggest rivals in hockey This goal is referd to as the golden goal and is still to this day the single greatest sporting moment in Canadaian history
The other big thing was that, prior to the Vancouver 2010 olympics, Canada hadn’t won a single Olympic gold medal at its two prior hostings of the olympics (Calgary Winter and Montreal Summer). This game was held on Canadian soil, featuring the two best national teams in the world going head to head for the championship. In many Canadian sports fans’ minds, Canada could have won every gold medal that year but, had the men’s ice hockey team lost this game, it would be like they’d lost it all.
On another level, I wish the ‘72 Summit Series had been recorded this way. Canada versus the evil Soviet Empire, Canadian players versus the Russian militia, Paul Henderson’s late game heroics. Now that was a series.
TSN or Sportsnet, forget which one and I'm not at home to look at my PVR, but around Xmas time they did full games of the '87 Canada Cup - the one with 66 and 99 playing together. Fantastic 3 game series.
Yeah. Nothing in my memory (except the birth of my child) could top that moment when Henderson skated up and just slapped that puck into the Russian net. I was in 9th grade and our class watched that game on TV. It's all a blur after that.
I do have the whole Summit Series on DVD. I received it as a gift from my family probably a decade ago. It's not in as good quality, but it's all available to watch.
I’m a little late to this vid but anyone else ready for it to be October already?? 🍻🥅🏒🎉 Much love to our Canadian brothers 💗 I remember being so damn happy for Canada honestly even though this was a heartbreaker for Americans, if we’re going to lose it better be to Canada or the Swedes. Btw I know every word of Oh Canada.
Oh man I remember this game like it was yesterday, the whole country went nuts when Sidney scored.remember the Americans tied the game with 24 seconds to go on the game.i never get tired watching this.
The game started in the morning so the whole country had all day and all night to celebrate and celebrate we did. A moment frozen in time that united our country like no other. That gold medal set the winter Olympic record for most gold medals won by one country in one winter Olympic games. In Canada it's one of those " where were you when" moments. Great video!
Winning the Olympic gold medal in a sport your country excels over its biggest rival on home ice is a special thrill not to be missed. Second would be the Canadian women's team winning over the US women's hockey team.
It was the perfect combination for a final game. The final game was on Canadian soil against our biggest rivals (US) in our beloved sport. The US and Canada has a very deep rivalry so this game was really important to us. Some of the streets you see are in Toronto where they shut down a street and had tv's up so people could watch the game. The last image was in reference to the boats in the harbour started honking their horns when Crosby made the goal.
I remember where I was. I was watching with my High School best friend at a movie theatre. When Crosby scored that goal, the place erupted. I thought the balcony was going to collapse. If it had, I wouldn't have cared. I would have died a happy man right then and there. The fact that it was a home Olympics made it even more special. As Chris Cuthbert said, it was "a once in a lifetime Olympic gold!"
Thanks for sharing. As one from Vancouver, Canada, that was one of the proudest moments of our recent history. Hockey is our game and we love it passionately. 2010, even our soldiers in Kandahar were watching.
Vancouver 2010, 18.555 seats sold in under a second online. I’ve never seen a cooler place than van 2010, I was born in 2000 so it seems huge to me then
i was very lucky to be in Vancouver during the Olympics while my ex went to school. i can still remember the sound of the city erupting when we scored the winning goal and then taking to the streets for the biggest party i have ever seen in my life. shoulder to shoulder in the streets!
Hockey is the National *'Winter'* sport of Canada, and the national *'Summer'* sport, is *Lacrosse* (you should look into the history of that sport too)
This reminded me of the Summit on Ice (1972) game 8 in the USSR the winner takes the tournament All of Canada held their breath. I was in high school, and it played on the intercom. The entire school went crazy when Henderson scored, and the count-down of the final 10 seconds was incredible. It really is our game!
Hockey both divides us and unites us in Canada, normally fans argue inessantly over our respective teams, international tournaments bring us together, every Canadian hockey fan understands.. hockey is life 🇨🇦
I was watching the game in a suburb of Toronto. I was skeptical about the Olympics being in Canada, but I'm also a big hockey fan and the Olympics is heaven for hockey fans especially when it is a best-on-best tournament like the Vancouver games was. Canadians winning Olympic Gold in hockey is a big deal. It's one of the main things that unites a very geographically and ethnically diverse country. French Canadians love hockey, so do English Canadians. Indigenous people love hockey and new immigrant Canadians either love it or at least don't mind it.
I want to thankyou made me remember about crosby scoring the winning goal. For his home country you see most people dont realize U.S. has great hockey teams because 80% of the players are canadian. This is the only time they actually get to play for their country and the pride they take in this goes through all of us
You missed part 1. Anyways I was scheduled for physio I show up to no one at front desk. The gold medal game was on(I was watching when left) they were all gathered watching in room. Was a good day
I'm Canadian and like the Army it's all about carrying the torch. When we played Russia in 72 the schools shut down it was like a war on the ice that we had no intention of loosing and we didn't.
I was in basic training in St Jean Quebec. We were all crammed in the mess watching it. When Crosby scored I went nearly deaf. It was so loud in there. I threw my drink up and have no idea where it landed. We were all in tears.
During the 2010 Olympics Tom Brokaw (famous US news broadcaster) did various reports for their primetime coverage; one of the best was on the friendship between the US and their neighbour to the north. th-cam.com/video/FIwXt7yu0ik/w-d-xo.html It's a great reaction-worthy video; note at 5:32 where he explains how our Prime Minister encouraged Canadians to be more patriotic than usual and apologize after! (We're very good at saying "sorry"!) LOL
The 2010 Winter Olympics were in Vancouver British Columbia, where I live, and we beat the American team which is always extremely satisfying. One of the best moments of my life, the entire Olympic experience here🎉
This game is really special to me. That day, we were celebrating my Uncle/Godfather's birthday, and a bunch family had driven up from New Brunswick (we're in Ottawa, but my mom's family is from NB) to join the celebration. We have a large family, so with the extra guests, we rented out an event room, that had a bar attached. This was important, not for the alcohol, but because they would have the hockey game on their TV. For the most part, the majority of us stayed in the event room eating and chatting and dancing a little. But for the last period, we were all crammed into that tiny little bar-room to watch. And it was just so nice of Canada to win that gold for my uncle on his birthday! 😊 It was a great day. My uncle is gone now, and I miss him. And this game will always be so very special to me.
this isn't what my apartment looked like after that goal. i believe a half full beer went flying across the room. Brutal end for an American Capitals fan.
watching this now, it still makes me tear up!!! I remember watching that game and being so on edge as it was an insane game, but celebrating the gold medal won at home was incredible. The olympics were in Vancouver, BC that year. on home turf!
I was there that day in downtown Vancouver with my sister. It was impossible to make it downtown by car. We ended up taking the skytrain. That was packed too. By the time we made it downtown it was jammed packed with people everywhere. We ended up on south Granville st and could not move through the crowd. We were supposed to meet up wit her friends at a bar, but they called earlier and said there was no way we would be let in. Everything was jam packed. Eventually we went into a dollar slice pizza joint which had TVs on the wall playing the game. It was packed too. Everywhere was jammed with people. We stood there and caught the last 10 minutes of the game. When the final goal was scored I have never seen that many people all erupt with screams of joy all at the same time. It was crazy. We were all jumping up and down and hugging everyone we could. We ran into the street and it was a sea of people screaming and jumping. It was insane. I remember this like yesterday. It was so much fun. My sister and I did finally make our way to her friends and we all got pretty blitzed after that. It was one of the most exciting experiences of my life. The energy was off the charts. A year later, I was downtown again with my sister again, this time watching the Canucks lose the Stanley Cup and this time it wasnt so cool. We were right where the riots would eventually start in front of the main post office. That was a different vibe. You could tell people came to cause problems no matter if they won or lost. That was a crazy day too. The Olympic gold was the best though. Im not big into pride of being Canadian. But that day I felt proud to be Canadian and to live in Vancouver when we won the gold.
The reason Canadians were so excited was because, we spent several Olympiads watching from the sidelines as what were really PROFESSIONAL teams from Europe (The USSR in particular), playing in the Olympic hockey tourneys, while all of our best players were in the NHL and Canada had to send true amateurs, who had little or no chance of competing; when NHL players were finally allowed, we were really chomping at the bit!
THANK YOU! Us Canadians showcased ourselves here. Our hockey win parlsyed us to beinf the New holder of most gold medals in a winter olympics. Thanks again!
One of the worst memories of my life. my boss wouldn't let me book the day off to watch the game. If only the game could have lasted 30 mins longer, I could have gotten off my shift and watched the game at home recording with no spoilers. The game ended 10 mins before I got off work, the cheering and noise on the street gave away the ending for me. Glad we won, but I HATE having important games spoiled for me
We call it “The Golden Goal”. And yes beating the Americans was amazing. But that was an overtime goal that won the game. It was an intense game of sport!!!!!!
Beez, been watching your videos for a long time and I’ll explain it. As a Canadian. Hockey is OUR sport. That’s the pride. So when we win on an global level like the Olympics. Against the USA. On home (turf) ice? It was HUGE.
Canada won both the men's and women's hockey tournaments at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver! Shining, joyful moments for all of Canada! We consider hockey to be our game, since we have always excelled at it and the original National Hockey League (NHL) was Canadian (i.e. "national!"), until the Americans bought it out. The money is in the U.S. and many Canadians still resent that so there's some serious competition there. Often there are still more Canadian players on the U.S. teams than American. For example there are 20 Canadian players on the Vegas Golden Knights team (and only a few Americans) that recently beat out the Montreal Canadiens for the Stanley Cup. So, we treasure our victories!
this was game winning goal to win the gold in the 2010 Vancouver, B.C., Canada Winter Olympics. Sidney Crosby, Canada’s best player at the time scored on team USA’s Ryan Miller to take home the gold in SUDDEN DEATH OVERTIME
Requesting "A legendary mascot got ejected because a crotchety Tommy Lasorda hated fun | That’s Weird" by Secret Base, the story of how the mascot of the Montreal Expos got ejected!
I read a report posted by the Greater Vancouver Regional District. This organization monitors many different things, like fresh water flows. The report show dips at the end of each period. Then showed a major drop one minute after the winning goal.
As far as sporting events go, I've only seen my NHL team win once, and I was 5 so I barely remember. This is, by far, THE sports moment of my lifetime. As a Canadian, just pure joy. The entire country completely united for like 12hrs. For 12hrs it didn't matter who the hell you were, what colour your skin was, what your level of wealth was. Didn't matter if you cut someone off accidentally. It was just love. Everywhere. The videos from the Vancouver harbor of the sound coming from the city as this happened are amazing. Gives me chills.
I watched the game at the MTS centre in winnipeg. I will always remember that goal and how that arena erupted. it's one of those "where were you..." moments
I remember this, for both Vancouver and Sochi (i was in elementary school) they wouldn't do much work that day and we would all go to the gym to watch team canada play. Even now in adulthood, all the bars are packed full, some businesses close and the town sets up a big screen infront of town hall and runs some consessions. When they win, its always a blast, even with people who hate hockey
I was 1.5 kilometres away from the arena, selling Olympic mascots at a huge department store (The Bay) when Canada scored. The whole store erupted. With out a doubt my favourite sports experience to date. What's your favourite moment Beesly? I am assuming a football game..?
Canuck here. I was in Mexico during this game. Some smart Mexican bar owner managed to get the game on TV. It was boiling in there and packed to bursting with Canadians. There were about 6 American fans in there to the likely 200 or more maple leaf bros. The Mexican staff just kept looking at us like we were insane. It was so much fun!
Still remember this...was living at my sisters watching the game by myself....let's just say that almost I gave her a heart attack as she she thought I was being murdered I screamed so loud.lol
38 million Canadians, 37 million 100 thousand of them celebrating! All across the country and those around the world. Probably, the louder simply because it was against the USA.
This is the passion, unity, joyful gatherings and just crowds of happy people all cheering for the same thing.... This is a big part of what we lost with Covid. 😢 I live near Vancouver, and I'm riddled with anxiety so I don't attend massive events. And even I miss these times. ❤️
The game was when Canada hosted the Olympics and we won the game on home ice with players who played for our local team against the USA our long time rivals in overtime. It was the last event of the games and honestly a story book ending to the greatest and most well remembered Olympics in modern history. Most of the footage is from living rooms, bars, and Olympic watching venues set up by cities across the country to watch the games together.
Technically, lacrosse is Canada's national sport (although the powers that be changed it so lacrosse is the national summer sport and hockey is the national winter sport), but no one gives a shit about lacrosse -- it's hockey in Canada. That said, basketball was created by a Canadian and shit got pretty wild a couple years back when the Raptors won the championship. Nothing like this, but you couldn't find a seat in a bar when that run was going on.
Even as an American, whose team lost this heartbreaker, I can't help but smile at this.
It happened to be the most gold medals Canada would get as well
Still get chills. I was downtown Vancouver when this happened
Me too!
Me too
I lived in Vancouver during the 2010 Olympics and that day I will NEVER forget!
Still gives me the chills. Still bringing proud tears to my eyes. Can’t watch this enough.
Fyi ice hockey is Canada's national winter sport and lacrosse is the Canada's national summer sport
It's hockey, not ice hockey .
Sorry lol
we just call it hockey. we only differentiate when we say , road hockey. we just know hockey, refers to the game on ice.
Omg ThAts one of my all time favourite videos and I still watch this at least once a year 🤣🤣🤣 what a day to be alive that was !!!! Whooopp!!!
Hey bees thanks for the vid
The reason this was so big was because it was against the united states our biggest rivals in hockey
This goal is referd to as the golden goal and is still to this day the single greatest sporting moment in Canadaian history
Yes it is
Iggy to Sid, how perfect?
The other big thing was that, prior to the Vancouver 2010 olympics, Canada hadn’t won a single Olympic gold medal at its two prior hostings of the olympics (Calgary Winter and Montreal Summer). This game was held on Canadian soil, featuring the two best national teams in the world going head to head for the championship. In many Canadian sports fans’ minds, Canada could have won every gold medal that year but, had the men’s ice hockey team lost this game, it would be like they’d lost it all.
@@mattshadow999pro I was only little but that makes sense
Far be it from me to disagree but 1972, Canada USSR, Henderson score for Canada.
Ask any old foggie.
That was the ultimate series as both the Russian and Canadian hockey players proved a point !
I do have the whole Summit Series on DVD. I received it as a gift from my family probably a decade ago. It's not in as good quality, but it's all available to watch.
I can still feel the elation of Paul Henderson’s goal & I also lost my voice😂 it made us all so proud🇨🇦
2010 Olympics n Vancouver ...Canada WON GOLD!! I'll never forget it! Amazing. A nation United against a long time rival, the USA. #IlovemyCanada
I was there in Vancouver for this. It was the most euphoric social event I most likely will ever be a part of. Great video Beesley.
I will always remember where i was when this goal was scored and watching it live was just amazing 🇨🇦🇨🇦
Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics .AMAZING I swear the earth vibrated
I was on a couch in my living room when the goal was scored. You could hear the entire town cheering.
Should check out the celebration that captured the entire country when the Raptors won the 2019 NBA championship.
Can you post a link? I haven't seen that #wethenorth
2:30 - if you also noticed, that waitress did not spill a single drop from any of those drinks in that celebration!
Ill never forget that moment in my life. The whole country stood still and watched this game.
My favorite moment has a Canadian hockey fan yes it was in Canada it was vs usa
Crosby is not only Canadian but he's from my home town! Imagine England winning the World Cup, that's what it was like
Hockey both divides us and unites us in Canada, normally fans argue inessantly over our respective teams, international tournaments bring us together, every Canadian hockey fan understands.. hockey is life 🇨🇦
I was watching the game in a suburb of Toronto.
During the 2010 Olympics Tom Brokaw (famous US news broadcaster) did various reports for their primetime coverage; one of the best was on the friendship between the US and their neighbour to the north.
th-cam.com/video/FIwXt7yu0ik/w-d-xo.html
It's a great reaction-worthy video; note at 5:32 where he explains how our Prime Minister encouraged Canadians to be more patriotic than usual and apologize after! (We're very good at saying "sorry"!) LOL
This would be like if England won the World Cup vs France in Manchester.
Unbelievable that I experienced this.
Crosby's golden goal and him yelling Iggy will tell you the whole story
2010 gold medal match - in Vancouver, Canada v USA, Sydney Crosby scores in sudden death overtime
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Was such an amazing day I will never forget.
More Canada 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
watching this now, it still makes me tear up!!! I remember watching that game and being so on edge as it was an insane game, but celebrating the gold medal won at home was incredible. The olympics were in Vancouver, BC that year. on home turf!
A lot of new Canadians were created that night😍
I remember this day it was a moment you could never forget. Proud to be Canadian 🇨🇦
It was in Canada on home soil and it was against the Americans they're our biggest rivals so it made the W that much better
This was like if England won the World Cup... in London.
The best part of the Olympics was all the friendly people downtown from other nations. Such a great time!.
As a Canadian every country was happy to see Canada win it. Watch it golden goal from 15 country's
And there was no crime during the game! All of Canada watching.
It's so nice to see them celebrating like crazy; they have so little to cheer for normally.
4:19 there were smaller TVs all around that area. That was one of the closing ceremony performers HQs, I was lucky to be part of that crowd.
I believe the first national sport was LaCrosse.. then drinking then Hockey.
38 million Canadians, 37 million 100 thousand of them celebrating! All across the country and those around the world. Probably, the louder simply because it was against the USA.
Our national sport isn’t hockey. It’s lacrosse. Lots of people assume it’s hockey though. 🇨🇦
I was at the game. It was so amazing. I was working security for the team
This is the passion, unity, joyful gatherings and just crowds of happy people all cheering for the same thing.... This is a big part of what we lost with Covid. 😢
I live near Vancouver, and I'm riddled with anxiety so I don't attend massive events.
This was 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver - Canada vs USA winning goal scored by SYdbey Crosby… Canada was top medal winner at these Winter Olympics.
If you want chills, you should watch the singing of the Canadian anthem by the crowd during the NHL playoffs in Canada.
I cried the whole time. Not sure if it's remembering this or the fact I am watching big crowds celebrate in pure pure joy...hhaaaahhhh covid
