I love the stillness of this eras tv studio drama, it really allows you to zoom in on a character, really highlights the quality of the acting too

I love a single play, its a pity so many are in archives or lost. There is a sort of sequal to this, although the other show was shown first! There's an episode of Public Eye called 'My Lifes My Own', which follows on from where this play ends however it was shown in 1969 and this 1970. In Public Eye the part of Shirley is played by Stephanie Beecham.

Yes, interestingly this is a prequel to 'My LIfe's My Own', I remember watching it on talkingpictures & recognising the characters. Roger Marshall tended to reuse his stories, an example being The Sweeney episode 'Feet Of Clay' which he reused for The Gentle Touch episode 'Menaces'.

A lot of people (myself included) say they like this style of play the way it is filmed which very much represents the style of programmes of the 70’s. I particularly like it because it is shot in the studio, built up sets with no flash filming that wizzes past before you get the chance to absorb what you are supposedly looking at, unlike most films and plays today. Then you have the style of storyline that is pure theatre and not all the realistic films and characters we are inundated with now. TV was all about ‘stories’ not real life and this is why I stopped watching television years ago.

It has a similar mood to Rooms. I'm sure fans of that series would enjoy this one.

The bunny design in the opening credits - I am certain that exact illustration used to decorate baby's cots in the 1970's. I was a child in the 80's and recall thinking they were qaint...I remember the balloons reminded me of lollipops!

The power of recollection, of something even similar that can trigger the memory and take you straight back to your childhood, always amazes me how potent this can sometimes be. Thank you for the comment

Not a bit like a nurse for as soon a she enters that home, she takes over, a little narcissism going on. I like a lot of 70’s programmes and miss the style.

I would have thought that would be an absolute stereotype for a nurse! Especially at this time. To be bossy and business like, confident of their own capabilities. Most nurses I meet are still like this, unfortunately most are less professionally dedicated and smart looking.Although the dress that barely covers her bottom is hardly professional, especially with a live-in job,of course it's asking for trouble 😵‍💫
