I think it's down to his surname - similarly with Zak Galifianakis. In terms of sheer talent he's always been head and shoulders among most entertainers I can think of. But I can't help but wonder if his brilliant BBC series never got renewed because the BBC struggled to promote it with a name that for most non-fans would be all but unpronounceable. A great pity, when you compare this series to 99.9% of the bilge that passes for British comedy these days, The other chap in this video is also great - he does the best Oliver Hardy impression I've ever seen. I remember him from the Lee & Herring This Morning With Richard Not Judy TV show - he played the father in When Things Get Knocked Over, Spill, or Fall Out of Cupboards. Another gem from a sadly bygone era.
My favorite detail in this is that they use the two highest guesses from the studio audience as the two options they remove rather than conventionally narrowing it down.
It's painstakingly designed to resemble a time long forgotten. And the dread of knowing that the more man might not even win his 100£ no matter how hard he tries.
I would watch this show in its entirety if it was shown, preferably on the bbc. I love the way he clicks his fingers for the attendant to send the telegram. ..... and that noise means we are under attack from Hitler's planes.... genius.
Sitting here kind of zoning out to the almost soothing early 40s ambience and that line also hit me like a baseball bat and made me start belly laughing like I haven’t in a long time.
What do you think politically correct means? Or are you just so obsessed in your culture war you can't even enjoy a youtube video without getting angry about something irrelevant?
I don't understand why Peter Serafinowicz is not more appreciated or well known. He is an amazing writer, actor, impressionist and comedian.
I know. I discovered him because of the Kitchen gun meme, and I have been watching his content ever since.
His humour is too clever for the sleeping masses!

The attention to detail in this sketch is amazing. The harp player is recreating the actual theme music from the franchise.
İt's not the actual theme it's an inspired theme due to copyrights
@@Alex-yr8wt err right, but it's also on a harp
There's something so melancholy about this whole sketch. Its detail is wonderful.
It's painstakingly designed to resemble a time long forgotten. And the dread of knowing that the more man might not even win his 100£ no matter how hard he tries.
These old "romantic" love songs that sounded like the man singing them was absolutely nuts
"For occasions, like."
I love Perry Rogers. So sad that he passed away at such a young age. And what a mess.
Peter is very brilliant! This sketch is absolutely perfect, every detail is amazing and the song is very soft. Peter is my ideal man

This man is a comedic genius, I dare say. I am sure of it. I am quite sure. I am very sure. Dry humour is beautiful.
He is, and I aggree.
Sublime comedy. Sublime.
Oh the HUMANITY! That was FANTASTIC! I’m watching these because I first found you as The Tick! I love your other work!
Pure genius
I really hate to constantly be kissing your ass, but you are the funniest man alive
"God save the king, remember walls have ears"
The first sketch is fantastically detailed, and Peter's Terry Wogan voice is spot on
who else is here from VALUE SELECT
We ASCEND brothers
PERFECT

Yes
@@wenahman He may have. It was the kill myself song right?
The appearance of the two young chaps in RAF uniform in the audience indicates that the capital of France is, of course, Vichy.
3:37 James May's stunt double.
Sublime comedy. Love the accents, both of them.
I know that it’s Peter doing the voice over for the Christmas pudding sofa, but my brain keeps saying it’s Terry Wogan…
I find this strangely soothing.
"Cleverest man in my street!"
for tuppence...haha
Quiz Show, circa 1940?
wow, the first time the audio transcribe has been even remotely close
I think in the 1890s it was WHO WOULD LIKE TO WIN 1 POUND
Who would like to win 1 shilling?
Damn the "I'll kill myself" caught me off guard so hard xD
Sitting here kind of zoning out to the almost soothing early 40s ambience and that line also hit me like a baseball bat and made me start belly laughing like I haven’t in a long time.
Sillytown! The very thought!
GREAT
Genius
The musical number made me piss myself
Damn good!
The harp is genius
TELEGRAM FROM “Sir Barnabas Montague” STOP. 😂
For tuppence 😂
Very well.
For tuppance, which city is the capital of France?
Berlin, Brussels, Paris... ...or Silly Town?
I choose Paris. :)
What time is it now Brian?
I'll send a cheque later.
I wonder if Chris Tarrant has seen this!
There’s something disturbing about this sketch, particularly the ending.
W double W
I feel sad for Nick's comment at the bottom, seven years ago... when shall Peter get the attention he deserves!?
How the merry Jesus H Collywobbles does this video only have 25,000 views after 14 years?
Sillytown was a neutral territory in the war, the smug bastards….

The audience poll was for Berlin or Brussels - an annoying continuity error in an otherwise fabulously detailed and entertaining sketch.
I think, as another commenter has already pointed out, that this was not an error at all, but entirely deliberate.
If "attention to detail" was that high in the sketch, they wouldn't be wearing gasmasks.
It's tragic that real comedy like Peter's has been binned in favour of talentless politically correct so called comedians.
Peter's comedy is actually pretty politically correct.
What do you think politically correct means? Or are you just so obsessed in your culture war you can't even enjoy a youtube video without getting angry about something irrelevant?
What are you on about you buffoon?
