I remember climbing down that rope/ladder thing. Seeing what looked like a huge person, freaking out while yelling "OH SHIT WHAT IS THAT?", and promptly getting eaten by it.
You know when those Cerberus mouths came out I just wanted them to start singing "I'm just a big green motha from outta space and I'm mad, I'm just a big green motha from outta space and it looks like you been had."
3:50 Easily one of the more visually stunning events I've seen in gaming. Wonder why I haven't seen more from these guys (and why the game itself is so obscure)?
The sequel was unfortunately canceled due to EA straying away from single player games and internal problems the staff had when trying to make a sequel
Don't you just love how one head shoots up into the screen? It's as if it wants to come out and eat the player for trying to beat him! Makes you jump and heart beating fast while listening to such demonic music. AWESOME!!
@reaper83001 From the poem that the game is based on: Red eyes he has, and unctuous beard and black, And belly large, and armed with claws his hands; He rends the spirits, flays, and quarters them. [...] When Cerberus perceived us, the great worm! His mouths he opened, and displayed his tusks; Not a limb had he that was motionless. The author describes it as acting like a dog, never as it actually being one (despite the greek version clearly being a canine of sorts).
Guys remember! Dante's poem, "The Divine Comedy", is based solely on symbolism as well as this game, and it's not how fat people. It's people who are selfish and who only care for themselves who are sent to the ring of Gluttony. P.S: This game is awesome! ;)
Got that right on the awesomeness. Also, gluttony in this context would mean more like excess in things, like not knowing how to say no. Stuff like that. Great game!
I agree :D Although I would have preferred Cerberus as a three headed dog, he does look kick ass and he fits this environment better as this than a dog.
Decade past. But this is the most disturbing and foul boss that I've ever since. This Cerberus is the on my top 1 of the most disturbing boss. FCK! WHOEVER DESIGN THIS CERBERUS! PLEASE MAKE MORE OF DISTURBING BOSSES
Not just that, but for anyone who's read Paradiso (which is probably no one here unless Visceral makes that game), at the very end it's almost like the Dante-character becomes the wiser Dante-author/narrator after meeting God. It's a very interesting merge.
Hands down best boss in the game. Mechanically it's not great but the visual design, sound design and the music come together to create something so horrifying and creative. It's up there with the Divine Dragon from Sekiro in terms of the strength of the aesthetic. I consider both to be aesthetic masterpieces in complete opposite directions
@kazePomme Actually Cerberus was in the actual Dante's Inferno novel of The Divine Comedy series. So it's actually referencing its source material, not greek mythology. :P
ok really big problem i have been on this boss for six mouths i have watched every video about this boss on youtube how di i bet him i hit all the buttons it says to when i cut the head and i just fall though and die the head wont cut off what do i do.
Why are people so herp derp? 1) Cerberus was described by Dante as a creature that resembled a worm in "The Divine Comedy." 2) 'The Inferno' is Part I of "The Divine Comedy." 'The Purgatorio' is Part II and 'The Paradiso' is Part III.
Why is everybody calling this thing a worm? They're the intestinous tongues of an incredibly gluttonous human, who's own hunger exceeds himself. A 3 headed dog is cool, but not visually fitting for such a circle as gluttony.
@gmanred4 Yes, but this monster is actually the representation of gluttony, they just gave it the name "Cerberus" because of how popular it is. There are a lot of other greek mythology traits in this game, even though its supposed to represent the christian version of hell- the real hell.
chuck norris was going to be the final boss of this game but the the creators thought that was imposible to defeat, so they cut him from the final version of the game, then two days after the game release the police found the body of all the creator of dante`s inferno on a forest with a mark of a foot on their faces
They sure got Cerberus to look more like an "scaring the shit outta me" than "A three headed puppy".
Fucking badass.
and we gotta thank Wayne Barlow for that!
Without a doubt, that is the most disturbing boss I've ever seen in my entire life... and I've played Majora's Mask and Earthbound
Cerberus has to be one of the most brilliant take-on's of an actual enemy that I have ever seen.
I remember climbing down that rope/ladder thing. Seeing what looked like a huge person, freaking out while yelling "OH SHIT WHAT IS THAT?", and promptly getting eaten by it.
Did anyone else notice that the worms were coming out of some guy's mouth?
He looks more like the Personification of gluttony itself than the guardian of this circle.
"I thought Cerberus was a Three-Headed Dog...Not a Three-Headed Slug."
... On second thought I'll just take a salad.
You know when those Cerberus mouths came out I just wanted them to start singing "I'm just a big green motha from outta space and I'm mad, I'm just a big green motha from outta space and it looks like you been had."
I like how it moves likes the stop motion monsters in old movies, it makes it creepier.
I'm literally crying guys...
*HIS TEETH ARE WHITER THAN MINE!!!*
Same, the primordial beast of hunger...HAS PEARLY WHITES
my GF left the room during this fight

the little smile from cerberus lmfao
Hi after 10 years
A decade late, but the game is obscure because it was released just after GOW3, and people didn't want to play GOW clones
@samueltm7508 such a dumb thing to complain about though
ugh😖 that thing was always horribly grotesque.
My God, that's Disturbing!
I'm NEVER overindulging in food ever again!
Literally the most disturbing boss I’ve ever encountered in a game
not at all, i find him breath taking.. true marvel of engineering... this boss is what made me get the game actually
When I envision a guardian to absolute Hell, this would be it.
Don't you just love how one head shoots up into the screen? It's as if it wants to come out and eat the player for trying to beat him! Makes you jump and heart beating fast while listening to such demonic music. AWESOME!!
That isn't Cerberus it's a 3 headed goddam earthworm
that's exactly how cerberus is described in the divine comedy. although its missing the black greasy hair.
Geryon is depicted very differently in the Inferno as well.
I agree this should be called either the hydra or wtf is this supposed to be!?
Stephen Plays Xbox One This version of Cerberus is fitting in the Circle of Gluttony. The heads are of teeth and tongue.
when people don't know the source material
YOU'VE GOT NOTHING AND NOTHING'S GOT YOU
ha, I get it
Devil May Cry 3 nice
Wow. Visceral and their messed up creature design. Beautiful
Imagine this on a 3d TV!
Me: mom, can we get Dante and cerberus
Mom: we have Dante and cerberus at home
The Dante and cerberus:
@reaper83001
From the poem that the game is based on:
Red eyes he has, and unctuous beard and black,
And belly large, and armed with claws his hands;
He rends the spirits, flays, and quarters them.
[...]
When Cerberus perceived us, the great worm!
His mouths he opened, and displayed his tusks;
Not a limb had he that was motionless.
The author describes it as acting like a dog, never as it actually being one (despite the greek version clearly being a canine of sorts).
...To be fair, Dante in the poem never said Cerberus actually LOOKED like a dog. Only that he was LIKE a dog.
1:56 " SATAN DAMMIT CERBERUS HEAD THREE! WILL YA STOP EATIN? WERE IN THE MIDDLE OF A BATTLE!
Guys remember! Dante's poem, "The Divine Comedy", is based solely on symbolism as well as this game, and it's not how fat people. It's people who are selfish and who only care for themselves who are sent to the ring of Gluttony.
P.S: This game is awesome! ;)
THIS IS AWESOME
This boss fight reminds me the Hydra fight in Hercules PS1 videogame.
Got that right on the awesomeness. Also, gluttony in this context would mean more like excess in things, like not knowing how to say no. Stuff like that. Great game!
Oh the HD is amazing :p
i think a dog wouldnt be as cool as this... thing.
ITS AWESOME!!!
You got nothing and nothing's got you..
I can see your fear, it surrounds you.
this Cerberus is without a doubt more disgusting than most other depictions of Cerberus, and totally fitting for Gluttony as well.
Strangest and probably creepiest interpretation and version of Cerberus I've seen so far... O.o
I agree :D Although I would have preferred Cerberus as a three headed dog, he does look kick ass and he fits this environment better as this than a dog.
most badass cerberus ive ever seen
ending was just awesome
It's both, Dante is both the author of the story and the character, the book is sort of an interpretation that the author had of a spiritual journey
That really looks like something you'd see in hell.
The sound was really good in dis game. It not only looks nasty, it sounds really nasty
This thing reminds me of the Hydra from God of War 1. The way that you have to deal with the 2 weaker heads before you deal with the main middle head.
Tesão de jogo.
Essa luta eu acho inesquecível .pena que nunca teve remasterizado.
Dammit, one year of confusion has made forget how evil gluttony is and how it leads people to hell!!
Not just that, but for anyone who's read Paradiso (which is probably no one here unless Visceral makes that game), at the very end it's almost like the Dante-character becomes the wiser Dante-author/narrator after meeting God. It's a very interesting merge.
thx i was really confused how to beat this peep
I played this game more than God of War 3, but not more than previous God of War games. It has something the third one lacks: actual challenge.
WOW thats very....................cool
Use your righteous path magic when you get the heads down and it's a lot faster to get them to the kill sequence than using your scythe.
Great art direction.
I love this game!
That game is awesome
@kazePomme
Actually Cerberus was in the actual Dante's Inferno novel of The Divine Comedy series. So it's actually referencing its source material, not greek mythology. :P
Have you noticed Cerberus launches bounches of souls as proyectiles?
Cerberus is a worm in this because that's how he is portrayed in the epic poem "The Divine Comedy."
That's what this game is based on hurr durr
@KillerSaiyan plz dont think im tryin to be an asshole or any thing but thats sparta this is hell which one do you think was visited more often
Hell, even the tongues have tongues.
Fuck this game fucking bananas and I fucking love it
ok really big problem i have been on this boss for six mouths i have watched every video about this boss on youtube how di i bet him i hit all the buttons it says to when i cut the head and i just fall though and die the head wont cut off what do i do.
yes indeed
Wow, at 1:55 the head of the beast on the right is being fed by that hand.
holyn shit its better than i thought
If u cant take the heat, stay out of hell.
ive been watching this vid while i was listening the song rise against savior.. from 0:12 until the end.. damn so bad ass
Hey, how do you destroy the "lava dogs" very quickly? are you shoting whit a cross??
Why are people so herp derp?
1) Cerberus was described by Dante as a creature that resembled a worm in "The Divine Comedy."
2) 'The Inferno' is Part I of "The Divine Comedy." 'The Purgatorio' is Part II and 'The Paradiso' is Part III.
@reaper83001 and wherefrom do you know how a cerberus looks if hes in hell?! :D
Wow you let yourself go Cerby
Cerberous health warning. Don't eat Dante. He will fuck you up. :D
@TheXemnas What's vorephilliac?
Cerberus looks like something out of a Lovecraftian horror
He does, doesn't he?
CERBERUS FTW!!!
Yeah it does, and it's damn good. Get my Greek Mythology fix with Kratos and my Hell fix with Dante.
@xxxmanpure Traditionally it was the guardian of the gate to Hell. It just always was there, a part of the landscape.
Well this certainly doesn't look like Fluffy.
They certainly ignore the dog aspect. It's a giant man-frog with three tongues, each with numerous mouths.
I want the game, for these twisted designs.
this game is scatological in the extreme
am i the only one more freaked out by the huge mouth cerberus comes out of?
@NightmareItachi ummm devil may cry 3 had the divne comedy refrences in it like virgel and dante
@TuPorrito jojo, I mean "lava rocks" lol
@NightmareItachi Yeah and the poem was written centuries before either game, so what's your point?
Maybe that weird creature is actually the first glutton.
Why is everybody calling this thing a worm? They're the intestinous tongues of an incredibly gluttonous human, who's own hunger exceeds himself. A 3 headed dog is cool, but not visually fitting for such a circle as gluttony.
@DemetedP You are correct, i found that out after i posted that comment. but the second part of my comment still stands.
@cowen512 They probably figured a canine didn't look demonic enough.
Anyone eating while they watch this?
@noitralegendmaster5 yeah, but in the book he guards gluttony, hence why he looks like 3 tongues
Looks like some sorta vorephilliac nightmare.. x_X
@Rauser142 it barks.... and snaps at you like a pissed off dog....
I was under the impression Cerberus was a hound, not some giant worm snake thing
I think this was the last cool boss battle in this game. Real shame too because the beginning few levels are so impressive.
Resembles Gluttony's transformation from FMA
thats what a 3 headed dog looks like in hell.
AYE.
...chill.
If hell exists, and that thing exists, and I somehow manage to get into hell.......I sure hope it doesn't eat me : x
Good, Good puppy, wait no NO NO AHHHHHH-
@gmanred4 Yes, but this monster is actually the representation of gluttony, they just gave it the name "Cerberus" because of how popular it is. There are a lot of other greek mythology traits in this game, even though its supposed to represent the christian version of hell- the real hell.
