@wikigeek I was saying that within my lens kit I had access to 50x range. That's because I had a 10-22mm lens, a 17-55mm lens, and a 50-500mm lens. So I could take pictures from between 10-500mm
@underwherewhore The minimum focus distance is alright - I think the MM is about 0.20x. I didn't test the bokeh - whoops! But then again, it's probably not a major factor as the maximum aperture is low, and you're probably not going to be using this thing for portrait photography
You saved me from buying the Canon 600 R/11 with this video. I love spying on my neighbors and such. 😂😂😂 Also, it was great to see who I've been relying on that gives everyone such original content. Thank you so much!!!😊😊😊
i was watching this review at my desk at work (on break) and my coworker looked at you and referred to you as "Gary Potter, Harrys lesser known brother". I thought it was funny
With telezoom lenses, you'll never have a description of distance, just a measure of how far you can see. A rule of thumb is needed if you plan to shoot things far away, "300-400 meters", a decent zoom lens going at 500mm will get you 250meters with a lot of details up close, after that things get blurry but, a teleconverter will help. If you plan to take pictures having really big gaps in distance, a prime lens will do a way better job than any zoom lens, always handy with a TC 2x.
Great job. I watch your review videos before I buy a lens (those I can afford, anyway). I am glad to see you also have a copy of Strobel's "The Case for the Real Jesus". You are a fine young man any father would be proud of. There is still hope for the world after all. Keep it up.
I just bought this lens for filming planes with tripod. I didnt realise its not OS version, shit! I hope it wont give me shakes when I zoom to 500mm end. I;ll just test it out to see how good it is.
I'd love to try this Lens I was looking at one for my Nikon D750 but I don't actually have a good use for it to justify almost 1K for moon pics it would be cheaper and better buy a Celestron Nexstar telescope or something with adapter for your SLR.
Thanks for the review. It is the first (good) full review. The one provided by sigma America is a poor review. I was planning on getting the OS version. I'm an advanced beginner, and this lens is more expensive than my whole camera kit. I've used a 70-200 and they weigh near the same and I could hand hold that all day, so for me it is still practical. Plus my SIgma 18-200 is f/6.3 @ 200 and this is 5.6 all the way to 470mm, so it does have practicality even if it weighs 4 pounds.
"....the bigma better in manual mode".. I found the same. After some cold rain got into, the AF stopped to work. I continued to use it in manual mode and got excellent results, many times better than in with AF. Usage of manual mode does require some practice, but you get it quite fast. One more thing - buy an insurance for this lens. Otherwise I'd stay with manual mode forever :-)
I also have a superzoom. But getting a dslr you will increase your abilities and the imagequality is much better then on a super zoom. My second camera is a fz100 first is my 60d
i don't mind having that lens. but i do mind the shakiness. i would cry to see that after paying $1,509.00. i think i might just go to that next buildings rooftop and take a photo of that tree above with my nifty 50mm. :D great review btw. :)
mate, Thank you for the review, you answered a lot of questions, I think I will rather go for the 150-500mm. and stick with my prime lenses for general use.
@DaMatta11 i dont think you really buy a lens with this long focal length and worry about the 50-100mm lengths. i've got a 70-200mm f4 L IS, probably got 100X IQ than the Sigma, and much better IQ than the canon 100-400. its the super telephoto lengths most people are probably interested in 300mm+, not too much choice in affordable lenses in these ranges.
A lot of luxury cars drop significantly in value as they roll off the lot. The price of a two or three year old luxury vehicle will be ten to twenty grand less than the original list price.
I've been thinking for a while about replacing my current camera with a dslr but after seeing this review I thought why should I because my current superzoom has a zoom range of x20 compared to the x10 of this lens and its no where near as heavy so I wouldnt have to spend a few months in a gym building up muscles just so I could lift the thing!
That's not totally true Xmeda I have had one of these (Nikon mount) without OS for a number of years now and use it for air shows, for jets its fine as you can pump up the shutter speed. For prop aircraft 200th is the max to maintain prop blur 160th is more normal so its used pan shooting. Ok I agree you do only get a few keepers say out of every eight I get one that's a keeper however one out of eight beats none or a spec in the distance. Pan shooting gulls as practice before serious use helps
1:20 Absolute rubbish, I held this lens on my canon 350D for 4 years now and it is still perfect. Very easily handheld for quick shots of wildlife/sports and long journeys.
I love these vintage videos ❤️
"Only a moron would pick it up by the camera..." XD
You used to be slightly snarkier :D
@wikigeek I was saying that within my lens kit I had access to 50x range. That's because I had a 10-22mm lens, a 17-55mm lens, and a 50-500mm lens. So I could take pictures from between 10-500mm
@wikigeek No problem! Just divide it. 500mm divided by 10mm = 50x. So, a 24-72mm lens would be 3x.
@underwherewhore The minimum focus distance is alright - I think the MM is about 0.20x. I didn't test the bokeh - whoops! But then again, it's probably not a major factor as the maximum aperture is low, and you're probably not going to be using this thing for portrait photography

Always wanted to try this lens. Great video. So many people do "review" type videos and never shoot throughout the lens.
i was watching this review at my desk at work (on break) and my coworker looked at you and referred to you as "Gary Potter, Harrys lesser known brother". I thought it was funny
...okay (!)
Yes :)
That's not the Bigma. The Sigma 200-500mm f/2.8 is the Bigma.

@mvakleko That's what I was thinking! Although image quality would not be great...
I just bought this lens for filming planes with tripod. I didnt realise its not OS version, shit! I hope it wont give me shakes when I zoom to 500mm end. I;ll just test it out to see how good it is.
is it good ? how much u paid for it ? got mine couple days ago waiting for an adapter .
Hi the lens I bought only cost me $480 in ebay! What mount on your Sigma lens? What camear you're uisng on it?
i am using canon 100D , my sigma i got is : non stabilisation sigma 50-500 mm 1:4-6.3 DG APO HSM is it the same you got ,
what camera u r using with it
Yes the same lens I have. I'm using it on my Sony A7s and A6000 so I need an adapter
@bendingsnake It would be helpful but for this thing you'd be better off with a heavy tripod
I'd love to try this Lens I was looking at one for my Nikon D750 but I don't actually have a good use for it to justify almost 1K for moon pics it would be cheaper and better buy a Celestron Nexstar telescope or something with adapter for your SLR.

@silverxmaple Hmmm...from my experience, I'd definitely not want to put that monster on a monopod. But horses for courses...
@hassoun6 I used my 60D
Great video, as always!
"....the bigma better in manual mode"..

@christopherfrost but this lens is 50-500mm no? therefore, shouldn't this be 10x then?
How is the DoF at extreme tele end? Is it possible to isolate the subject say a person or bike at 500mm f/6.3?
@silverxmaple Why?
Cracking video boss!
i don't mind having that lens. but i do mind the shakiness. i would cry to see that after paying $1,509.00. i think i might just go to that next buildings rooftop and take a photo of that tree above with my nifty 50mm. :D great review btw. :)

How did you get the shot at 5:01 at ISO6400? My 500D only goes up to 3200ISO, which I don't use, because of how much noise there is. Max I use is 1600
You're the human good looking Shrek! :p hehe
Thanks for the review :)
Awesome Review!
I use 2 Sigma lenses, the 1st 50-500mm (os version) and 2nd 300-800mm, on my 5DMK3
@Jolinator Yes, about 800mm i think
@christopherfrost isnt this lense a full frame lense, hence on your 60d youll be pulling 700mm+ of zoom?
Sounds good, if there was a luxury car in England for less than £3,000 you'd be lucky!
Sorry, Amateur Photographer here... how do you work out how many times zoom is your lens.. In other words how did you get the figure of 50x zoom?
Is this lens wheather sealed?
What's the minimum focus distance? How was the bokeh? not too good I'm betting

So would a monopod would be very helpful?
Put her one a t3i with a 3x-10x crop. Would love to see how she handles.
thanks for review
I've been thinking for a while about replacing my current camera with a dslr but after seeing this review I thought why should I because my current superzoom has a zoom range of x20 compared to the x10 of this lens and its no where near as heavy so I wouldnt have to spend a few months in a gym building up muscles just so I could lift the thing!
$6,999 is the same amount as a luxury car!? Where did you get that statistic? I want to live there :D
Can this lens only work on full frame cameras? I bought it and have a Nikon D7500 and find the photo quality not very good.
It's not a very sharp lens
Please let Kai to review these lenses.
Could you compare it with the 150-500 sigma?
I need a zoom lens to photograph my wife locked under the stairs in a cupboard .. Would the 50mm end be enough ....
You need those small spy camera for that purpose LOL
Sorry to for mmy question? is that Korea??
how's the focus breathing>?
1:40, almost 2kg at full zoom ? how many kg is it at less zoom ? >_
That's not totally true Xmeda I have had one of these (Nikon mount) without OS for a number of years now and use it for air shows, for jets its fine as you can pump up the shutter speed.

much better to get a 100-400 and a 1.4X extender for 140-560mm and much better IQ, IS and Contrast.
@wikigeek Yes, yes it would.
Bigma without OS is only well usable with Pentax and Sony..
what luxury car costs $7000?
1:20 Absolute rubbish, I held this lens on my canon 350D for 4 years now and it is still perfect. Very easily handheld for quick shots of wildlife/sports and long journeys.
Nikon rules!!
Said no one ever lol
I disagree. Take a moment to Google search the word 'Bigma', and see for yourself
@ukguy Uh? you lose the range from 50 to 100mm..!
you live in korea! thats awesome!
Not any more I'm afraid...I had a good time there though!
thats great!
Christopher Frost Photography Hi Chris, where in Korea did you live, may I ask? Thank you for your terrific reviews. Very helpful and informative.
Cameron Imayoshi
I live in Wales now
Thanks for the review. It is the first (good) full review. The one provided by sigma America is a poor review
Harry Potter lives!
I like to spy on my neighbors but to spend that much its better to get a binocular.
"2 kg at full zoom" ?! No sh!t! How about no zoom at all?
i meant an economic car. :)
I can used the canon 2 x teleconverter on this Sigma Lens 50-500
Hi William,
let me know is it working properly or not. Because i am also looking for these lenses...
yes is working . I try and is ok . but need tripod
yes is working . I try and is ok . but need tripod
That is not what I thought he looked like
Dosent look very sharp
No. Be especially careful in wet environment. See my reply to aleutians realm above.
Sorry to hear your friend is such a perv.
This lens is really bad the quality is horrible
***** Nope. It's great with a FF and it's fucking versatile.
Doesn't regret at all that choice
