I am a UK-qualified BDS(Hons), gold medalist dentist who has worked outside the UK for 10 years. They won't let me re-register in the UK without extorting thousands of pounds from me, whilst forcing me into months of lost earnings to be able to work for the NHS! I've even been denied the opportunity to volunteer to treat the homeless! This is a broken system and the ppl who are breaking it are NOT DENTISTS.

    • @DrMelody8

@@melgrant7404 Human greed may be a small reason for a handful of dentists, but the REAL reasons extend far deeper and are far more shocking (!) and distressing - including the corruption of the entire system and the slavery paradigm of government's body corporates! No one wants to work under the bullish, bullying and slave-like treatment. The 'powers that be' love the misconception that the blame lies with civilian dentists, rather than our corrupt and fraudulent, racketeering and profiteering overlords from the General Dental Council right through the NHS structures.

@@melgrant7404 many treatments are delivered at a loss on the NHS by dentists. They do not get paid fee per item, and they do not get salaries. They get paid the same for 5, 8 or 10 procedures as they do for 3. This is why so few will take on new patients on the NHS , as because of their typically greater treatment needs, the practice will incur a loss to treat these patients, sometimes a very big one . The only way to make it make it work is to cross subsidise NHS care with revenues from pvt work/pvt patients
, to make up for losses incurred delivering NHS work OR leave the NHS altogether. Many pts don’t realise this, and keep assuming dentists are greedy. The Practices have operational costs to cover and if their businesses go under from insufficient revenue, the NHS won’t bail them out, but simply will take its contract back and award it to another party. The contractor is left in financial ruin. IF the NHS would pay the Dental practice for all the work patient needed rather than a flat rate, no matter how much each patient needed, and made sure the dentist got paid their fair share, and the money was not just hoarded by the owners, many of them corporate, then almost all the problems with NHS dentistry could be fixed. The funding for NHS Dentistry has stayed flat for nearly 20 yrs it’s inevitable that the system is now in disarray.

My National Insurance used to pay for my opticians and my dentist.
Now I have to pay those things myself, but my NI continues to rise, as access to Doctors and hospitals _also_ diminishes.

I am a nurse in the NHS.
Months ago I was suffering, had to get emergency dental service but the NHS dentists tell me they are "not capable" of taking my case. So they refer me to another NHS dentist but she will charge me £200+ and I have to wait for a week. But I was suffering and was in great pain.
I had no choice but to get into a private dentist, who gave me an appointment the next day, and charged me nearly £400.
Next time I'll book a flight to Italy and have my dental done there
England is fxcked, and many people I know, nurses too, have moved to Australia or the USA, and many more just waiting for their Visa. Just doing it quietly.
    I'll be going next.

They said I would have to go private to get them done but it would cost me 85… I only get 170 a fortnight so I couldn’t afford it… I’ve just sat and dealt with it. Now my tooth is in half vertically. I’m scared to even ask for an appointment because I feel like they’ll not accept me even though I’m like registered there still but I have a bad feeling 🥲 they’ve also moved my dentist in the city shopping centre where everyone walks in. I take home £1500 a month, yet the treatment I needed for just one tooth will cost over £1000 (root canal+crown). Unless the NI stops charging us for the dental part and refund me of all unused funds that I paid over the years, I don't see how am I going to pay for an essential, not cosmetic, treatment. We have already seen this situation in the States where dental healthcare has been largely privatised, why did GB think it would be any different here? If the wider NHS were to be privatised, I fear the population would begin suffering from all sorts of diseases. That is what the NHS was created for, to give everyone equal access to medical care. The changes since stem from a much larger population drawing on the resource and inefficiencies in the governance of the NHS itself. These need identified and rectified. In terms of service provision itself, I am minded of when I was a young teacher trained in Scotland in the 90s, my full certification depended on a probationary period extending to a number of years to be delivered in Scotland not in New Zealand, Australia nor England, nor Wales for that matter, can't have it every ways! 😉 Also how much more could be achieved if there was not parity of pay for permanent staff but enhanced pay rewards for staff loyal to their trusts thus incentivising agency staff to go permanent, reduce double jobbing etc. The NHS is a precious resource in need of intelligent management. The wealth of any nation will depend upon its overall level of health and strategic leaders will prioritize a long term, sustainable health strategy for the country.

    Attention all readers,
Please pay close attention to the following message. If you encounter a situation where your dentist refuses to provide treatment without valid reasons, I urge you to take action. Begin by submitting a formal complaint detailing your experience. Should you receive an unsatisfactory response or encounter dismissal, consider escalating your complaint to the medical ombudsman for further investigation.
It's important to hold healthcare providers accountable for their actions and ensure fair treatment for all patients. In cases of unjust treatment or discrimination, exploring legal avenues may be necessary. While it may be daunting, individuals affected by such situations should consider banding together to pursue a class action lawsuit against the government.
Let's stand together to uphold the rights and dignity of all individuals in our communities.

You can avoid tooth decay by not eating sweets and making sure you floss and brush your teeth regularly. Teach kids to do the same. Sweets are very artificial. Many are designed to be sucked or chewed in the mouth for a long time and that is what causes them to rot teeth.
Substitute sweets with things that don't stay in the mouth for long. Eat fruit or biscuits.
Obviously there are reasons why sweets are not adequately criticised. Mencius said :
If your aim is wealth you cannot be benevolent. If your aim is benevolence you cannot be wealthy. End quote.

Now every time I phone to make an appointment they never answer the phone and when finally my daughter gets an appointment the place is empty not patients when we arrive not patients when we leave... this is been the case every time we visit they don't look busy at all, by the way I am a carer and dont qualify to see the dentist in this place the reason they can't cope with the demand they experience every day 🤔

Tory government announced how much money they spend on NHS - but they don't say - 50% of the money is going to private providers. And then the public turns against NHS. I work for NHS and after 10 years of service, my hourly salary is lower than the workrkes in Coffe Nero 😞.

    I had severe toothache for years ! I couldn’t find a dentist.
I had to have two emergency dental appointments however they both just drilled into my teeth and said I need an emergency root canal at my dentist but I didn’t have one because no one’s taking on new patients 🙄
I eventually registered with one and waited a while for my appointment to only be told that I need to go back to my old dentist which wasn’t possible. They wasn’t willing to treat me because what I needed done was a lot however they just dismissed me without even considering that I would have been happy to pay for private treatment 🙄 about a year later I found another dentist which was amazing! I started off as an NHS patient at my first appointment then I got everything done there privately. It cost over £5,000 which is a lot to spend on teeth but I’m no longer in chronic pain.
I had two teeth removed, two root canals, two crowns and 6 filling which included changing all my old silver ones to white. My dentist is so lovely I’m due back for a check up in the spring.

Worth looking into Specialist Dentists vs General Dentists in the UK. General dentists perform procedures after short-courses and this can lead to all sorts of problems for patients. They do this to make more money. It is allowed, but clearly quality of care is diminished for patients who don't know better. Similar issues are going to happen when we have lesser trained practitioners coming in to do GP work. Health services, even if private are extremely poor in the UK.

After few years here in the UK I noticed my teeth is not as good as they were. Maybe the quality of food and water or my stress level here in UK. I earn more here in UK compared back home but I seemed can’t budget to pay for my teeth, I understand somehow why people don’t prioritise dental health here in the UK😢

The really worrying part of this story goes untold or rather unsaid that is, NHS Dentistry could well act as a blueprint for the NHS at large.
The UK government has been under funding dentistry for decades.
Over the course of my lifetime I have simply moved from the NHS to private when I left college and got a job.
For many working adults private is the only means of having timely care. You either fund an insurance policy or you pay-as-you-go.
It might sound cynical but it would suit the government if NHS GP & Hospital services were run in the exactly the same way as NHS Dentistry.
Given the length of waiting lists I imagine we are some way to this already.
Our politicians do not know what they are doing. We like to think they do.
The fact that so many are going without basic dental care does not register; they only care about the cost of providing the service.
The Conservatives have made a token effort to say they are doing something about it because it is election year.
They do not care because most of their supporters pay their own way for dental care and pensioners are covered.
Our country has a great number of problems most are caused because our growth and hence GDP is anaemic.
Our infrastructure and that includes our tax base is too expensive. Those industries that could or should be able to be taxed to fund infrastructure were either closed, when we found North Sea oil, privatized/sold (now many to other countries) or they levy high fees like BT to maintain they are a world-class business or they are banks on which the Conservatives bet the house and the GFC put paid to future tax revenues.
The average salary of UK citizens has fallen behind many countries over the past two decades, though our need to pay higher fees and taxes remains undiminished as a result we routinely rob Peter to pay Paul.
Describing Britain as a poor country with a few rich people adequately describes us.

Yes, it's shameful what happens in UK, it's very similar to a communist country where everything is ‘’ free of charge”, while only 1% of doctors actually know what they are doing in their job and they are all complaining of being overworked when they actually go to work privately (at the same damn time of having a job for NHS) for better money. I'm quite sure the management of NHS is on drugs 24/7 as nobody seems to wake them up, they are out of touch and it seems like it'll be the same for another 300 years. Had to go overseas for a life threatening condition that required a simple operation. I was suffering for nearly 2 years, had to go to the emergency a dozen times, gave me painkillers all the time and after a few hours they would send me home with pain, telling me they don't have anymore available to operate, also told me to speak to my GP to refer me to someone who can operate. Fast forward another year i had an appointment for someone to operate just to find out that it was only a check up, I guess they wanted to see if i could survive that long. These so called doctors never took me serious, they pretend they care about patients, but they only care about the problem they have with NHS as their salaries are low and the fact they don't have enough muppets in there to do the job. The ones that are working for NHS for more than 10 years they don't do any work and they don't care as they know they can't be fired, they can only fire them when there is proof that they made a huge mistake and someone died after what they did. Also forgot to mention that in UK proof gets covered all the time, they always say that the records are missing from their system ( very similar to communist practices as they always cover their mistakes) and they close almost every case with “apologies for any inconvenience created”
