  • Is the audio technica at2020 worth it in 2020? The Audio Technica AT2020 was released in 2004! Still such a popular mic in 2020. This mic is still a great value almost 16 years later... It seems that so many mics not just from Audio Technica but other companies too don't seem to mess with what works

    I bought a couple of AT2020 mics back in 2007 for a podcast a friend and I were doing. We ran them through a Tapco Mix 100 mixer (remember those?) and overall the setup worked really well. I still use that setup today if I need to record voiceovers. Solid mic that doesn't seem to age!

      @@yous9858 There's a ton of knock-offs that are basically reproductions of mid-range mics. If you find a mic you want (like the audio technica 2020) look it up on Amazon and see the mics that come up that look the same but cost like $30. I use a Neewer that was like $20

    • @yomega69
      @yomega69 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@yous9858 similarly to our friend above, it works! I think the difference between a $20 condenser and a $150 condenser is insignificant. The interface and software you're recording into tends to make the most difference past getting good raw input, which yeah the $20 neewer does well. Your ability to record cleanly and mix well is more important. Now if money is no object, yeah a $400 shure will be better and a $3,000 manley will be bananas, but for entry level is just go with the simple setup and play around with mixing

    I bought several mics before getting an AT2020 around 2015. I had avoided the AT2020 because it was less expensive. Boy did I feel dumb. It's my favorite and the others have pretty much stayed in their boxes ever since.
    The AT2020 is the cleanest, flattest sounding mic I have with no coloration of the sound that I can detect. It sounds just like the real thing you recorded.
    It's not so great in a live, deafening loud, rock and roll setting. I prefer the old workhorses like the SM-57 or 58 for that. But if you want to mic a live acoustic guitarist to add some sound reinforcement, and still have it sound to the audience like you're standing right next to the guitarist, this mic does really well. Super clean.
    As you can see in this video, for studio voice work, it's as good a mic as you'll ever need. You can spend lots more money but it's not going to sound any better.

      AT2020's not too shabby of a mic.
      Got mine alongside a Behringer Xenyx 302 almost a full year ago
      (November 30th to be exact)
      I carefully got those two items out of their boxes and started using them immediately.
      The BX302's not leaving my sight for anyone else's use;
      This awesome mic and simple audio interface is a pair that Listereens its work
      (says what it does, does what it says).

    Ya know, it's funny, but when you look at the AT-2020, it's like the SM58 by Shure or the Electro-Voice RE20. And models at the $99 from other companies like Rode and Sennheiser; they found a way to make a quality model of microphone that people on a low budget could afford and they maintained that quality for years to come. AT2020 is the condensor version of a SM85 or e835. Yes, they sound totally different and are different tech - I just mean that it's one of *those* 100 bucks microphones that manages to be really good for little cash, can last years etc. I mean it has downsides, for sure, but for the price it's really good.

    Hey bro! So i got this at2020 mic and one thing that makes me confused is the sensivity of the mic, everytime i doing a recording i always hear a lot of noise, although i placed a pop filter it doesn't work, also i can hear someone knocking through my door lol, any advice there bro?

      Lower the gain.
      Speak closer to the mic.
      Adjust the gain boost on post.
      Add other stuff like noise gates, EQ, Compressors, etc.

    I use one, I think it's good for everything I do, make videos, discord calls and just chatting. Although I do have complaints, like how I have to have a secondary program to make the microphone louder

      Thats the yellowtec Mika mic arm.. they are about 350 bucks... I know there is a much less expensive name Blue Compass Boom arm. It’s about 99 bucks.. be sure to check out some TH-cam reviews of each and see what works for you..

    I have an at2020 usb plus and I want to get the best sound quality out of it. What is your gain and stuff on the sound settings and how far should I twist that knob to make it sound good? Do you have your right next to your face? Maybe someone can explain to me on discord or help me out. Thanks.

    Definitely more hard plosives on the AT2020 than the Rodes. Of course, the Rodes Procaster has the built in pop filter. Would be interesting to hear the AT2020 with a pop filter.
