I just learned that New Orleans has dance parades most of the year, not just Mardi Gras. I'm not really interested in the commercialized fiasco that Mardi Gras likely is, but some lesser known parades sound like a blast. I want to do a loosey-goosey dance down the street, forget my troubles, and have a GOOD time.
Yep! We don’t classify them as parades though. What you’re likely referring to are second lines. They typically occur throughout the year on Sundays. Mardi Gras is simply a period of festivities while second lines are more continuous. Mardi Gras parades are organized by different crews (or “krewes”), such as the Krewe of Zulu or Endymion, while second lines are organized by certain neighborhood clubs, like the “six ward steppers”-wherein most of its members have roots from the six ward of New Orleans.
Say that then, this is what we do🤗🤗🤗😍 all night long. Represent brother. I was the same way, my grandmother would say Kim you hear that? Out the door I went
I see, Chicago people are hating. New Orleans is the originator of the second line. nobody do it like we do it. don’t hate congratulate, don’t hate participate! don’t dislike us get like us!
Pour c est la cité la plus heureuse sur la planete avec sa riche diverse et mythique histoire sa population si diverstifiee sa cuisine son climat sa geologíe pour ne citer que cela une ville Mysthique qui te donne une chair de poule J adore
Oh yeah, we can hear the similarities too. We were lucky to partner with Rebirth Brass Band and Big 6 Brass Band in New Orleans to score this short. Curious who your favorite old school gogo groups are?
To the Creators of this footage ( If Cities Could Talk only) Can you do an update with this dancer? I would like to know the impact of covid 19 on the dance.
My Nola people been doing this before the Louisiana purchase. I came with us from the shores of Africa via the bottom of the slave ship. It lived on in the Congo square every Sunday the only day the slaves were allowed to gather. At that gathering they danced on the Congo Square. This history is older than the 19th century
Tinnell Edwards yea it’s similar King Charles jus run it faster and seem they put it to different beats or music versus New Orleans putting in to brass band music
I think we do. I've seen some of the videos from Chi and they are good but the New Orleans second line is different. We dance to brass bands, Chi sounds like they're dancing to Electronica music. Second lines in New Orleans stems from Bamboula music from Africa where only the drums were played. It has more soul to the movements.
Shi town stop hating come on down here in new Orleans we will see what your working with the streets are open to everyone what's your issues are if you want to dance come on down
This is why we'll never come together as black people why do we always have to compete with one another I'm from Florida we like to dance too but c'mon man.
“You could have six bad days, Monday through Saturday, and get up Sunday and go to a second line, and you’re gonna forget,” man i love nola
Yerp! Give em a good day! 🤙
