What you said about procrastination really resonates with me. I tend to get stuck on starting a large project because of some unknown perpetual fear of failure even before i've began working on the feature, which is nonsense as i get great feedback from our lead developer on my work, yet i still get this fear of getting started.
This is so relatable! I've been context switching a lot in the past weeks and it's been quite hard for me to get back into my coding projects, or anything productive really. This felt like a reminder that I need to get my stuff together and actually gave me a sudden burst of motivation, so thank you
I love how good you are at reflecting! Yes, definitely you need to completely switch off for an hour each day or you'll end up in burnout. Also, I think I read somewhere that procastinating on big tasks is a consequence of doing the small tasks first. Try doing the big ones first in the day while you're fresh and see how it goes.
I sometimes have the same nightmare eight years after uni))) In a dream, I realized I was not at the university for a long time. I missed all the last classes for several semesters. On the final exam, I ultimately could not understand how exactly to solve the test. At the same time, time passes very quickly, and none of the test questions is solved))
I can totally relate to like the "It's 9pm and I've gotten nothing done so I'm gonna start cleaning" I often find that I can't much productive stuff done if I'm not cleaned up and there's laundry hanging out
7:46 - that reaction is priceless (upsi x3). seriously though, i can in many ways relate. didn't go to sleep until 3am last night and could only sleep 4 hours and today doing major cleaning of my home office space. not sure if stress or just fatigue. flying to san francisco sunday for work so we'll see how next week goes...
Tell me, that you don't feel much better for it? I'm 27 and I've not had Facebook for 12 years, never had Twitter, deleted IG nearly 2 years go now, I have no social media other than LinkedIn for my professional work. I couldn't recommend it enough to people, having social media is literally poison, there isn't another word for it.
@@KaizeesHub I feel much better yes. I did manage to go 5 months last year but I guess relapsed is the correct term. It’s increasing difficult to feel like it’s an option to not have social media but yes I wish more people would give it a try!
@@KaizeesHub thinking about it too I'm starting to hate it so much, I mean i hated it for while a part for a few good accounts but I'm starting to hate myself and been the opposite of productive....
Very interesting to see another Dev's life and I particurlarly enjoyed the reflections about the end on procrastination. I've felt similarly, I think procrastination is unavoidable, but also I doubt I'd enjoy working if I didn't procrastinate at all. Also I don't know what I would do with more time if I procrastinated less
I also have big problems with procrastinating. Ironically, today was the total opposite. I went to bed last night telling myself that I was going to be very productive today because I'm a big shot (except I'm not.... yet). Woke up early today, got to the office early, and the whole day I've just had the mindset of, "yes, I'm important. Look at me doing important things." It sounds weird, but I've been gotten so much done today so far. Watched this video during my lunch, and I'm glad I did. Maybe trying a similar mindset will help? Idk, but thanks for another awesome video, Jackie!
I quite sympathize with the current situation you are in and in general I believe that many people with high productivity values also encounter these problems. In many cases, I always put productivity as the highest priority, and over time I reached burnout caused by the same reason you mention, which is a lack of focus on rest and personal hobbies, so I began to implement a change in this matter, but the problem that happened in my case is that I began to be drawn in the direction of personal rest and personal hobbies, and this damaged my protectiveness . I would love to hear what you did to solve this problem so that I both provide rest and hobbies for myself and do not harm productivity.
I was in a little bit of a slump this month. Just getting back on the train, don't know why, something was just compelling me towards distraction/loss of focus.
Can totally relate to the procrastication thing, it has also been happening to me. Personally I try to avoid stressing to much about it because there are some days that we are able to just full blast do the tasks related to work and on some other days is hard to even analyze an email, don't know might be the moon affecting us or something like that :P In terms of how to solve it, try to use pomodoro, personally it helps focus in small chunks of time and begin a flow of work.
Leftovers are the reason I cook myself. I'll refactor it later *cough*. Procrastination happens because you fear being underqualified for a task and then being forced into a long synchronous thought pattern that goes nowhere. Solution is parallel execution of other tasks and trying to reimagine and recreate your problem solving mental zone with stimuli like environment, music, drink and food. Burnout is really caused by having to synchronize your mind with other people while in parallel thought execution. So you probably stay up late because you need peace, silence and cool air to get into your student crunch zone. Try disabling notifications on things and close the email client.
Nice to see you again!! 😍😍 These views inspire me to move to London to make a fan meeting =) (And to get a backend dev job as well) Actually, these mess-days are fixed by like 2 days off the work. Then I'll be ready to create things three times more productive than I was before. And also you can have to try to take meetings (or even code) in the office, it keeps you productive hella lot!
Love your videos! Hey about procrastinating on big tasks, have you read the book called "eat that frog", it very interesting and it basically says we have to "eat" the ugliest frog first hahaha
Alexa is jealous. My tech support team tried 2 days trying to fix Office on my work laptop and couldn’t. I did some research today for about 10 minutes and fixed it myself. Which Korean Drama? Attorney Woo is highly recommended.
Is that a sliced onion ( not in your recipe) sneaked in with the rice? Sour cream and onion are totally the best flavour. Gonna think of you as Jackie onion now 😃
omg i had the same dream! and the procastination issue on things. WOW. it stopped for a while. i think maybe its because i am putting more effort i guess into doing things, and i did many things from my list lately, like, not putting them on the future so much, even if its not always so urgent, i guess. i am working in software ingineering too, but on the QA side, and also rented to live alone :D update: I also started learning python for automation tests short time after starting to watch our videos, now, 10 months after I left this comment, I am already working on an automation project for my company
It's super weird that you're talking about nightmares, because I was telling a friend today that I'm having a nightmare where the car brakes just don't work. this nightmare has happened a few times. Super weird.

Can i transition into aerospace engineering from CS ?? I couldn't score the marks necessary to get an aerospace field in the top college(apparently they are only ones who offer aerospace in my country) , but i can make into CS , so after that can I get into aerospace field ?? Pls answer , i really wanna know
You can for sure work as a software developer in the aerospace industry :) but to work in fields such as aerodynamics or performance it might be hard because it’s knowledge that’s more difficult to acquire through self teaching compared to programming, and the hiring managers care more about your degrees and education from what I’ve seen. But working as a software engineer in aero is a good place to start 😊
1. Take time to really rest and disconnect 2. Do something you enjoy (watch Netflix, go somewhere, read a book, play sports, do a class etc) 3. Once you feel rested ask yourself what would bring you joy and what would help you be more productive and systematic 4. Design a routine that includes things that make you happy (add time to your day for reading or watching Netflix or going for walks) and things that would make you more productive (make ur bed 1st thing in the morning, using a calendar with time blocks for tasks, pomodoro, TODO lists etc) - u can write it down on paper 5. Follow said routine until you feel like it’s ingrained in you - it should then require much less energy 😊
