Infographic at the end showing what you should buy to maximise your $$$. Obviously, I don't know your financial situation, so it goes without saying, don't do something foolish.
the new plastic russ is the sole model to purchase in gw plastic. infantry looks way less detailed and just cheap, sentinels are crap and somewhat ugly, dracosan is just bad... we are talking about a tabletop, so units need to be at least good enough to not feel completely useless on the battlefield, and gw cant write rules. most useful auxilia units arent afordable or arent available for the last millenium. most gw games arent playable anymore without a printer, i dont get this corporate business strategy, or i dont get whoever still buys most of gw useless range of horrible miniatures (sets). sculpts are pretty good, i built some newish kits, and they are all terrible, nice looking miniatures but the most bad kits i ever built.
Thanks for this guide. I slowly built up my Solar Auxilia with the older resin lasrifle and velatarii over the past few years because I loved the models. This has definitely given me some focus on what to add next before playing.
Dracosan is effectively free in the Battle Group so might as well get them en masse anyway if everything else is decent. Turn the Dracosans into Ash Wastes crawlers or something.
15:41 Our poor poor Dracosan.... If it were only available at 100pts not 175pts. A carnodon in place of it in the battle group box would have made perfect sense!
as someone who likes the malcador tank's asthetic it saddens me to hear how bad it's rules are in 30k this edition. the defender was my first lords of war unit in 40k. honestly if i were to go for those ogryn I'd conversion build them instead of buying the expensive fw option
Watching this back again and someone who's painted for a few years but rarely gamed in any of the various game formats, I was thinking it would be great to see some videos on example list building for each faction to go along with these: maybe 2 or 3 lists to cover "casual", "fun/silly", and "meta as hell" to give us beginners a steer or 2?
The dracosan being 175 points sucks, the big gun upgrade taking it 225 for a worse weapon makes it even more embarrassing while jacking your ability to carry a 20 man squad. Such a cool kit, if it didn't come in the box set I probably wouldn't get any of them at all, honestly I would have preferred another tank.
With defensive weapons like volkites the vehicle squadron rules can be quite an advantage thanks to the reaction. The limitation on reactions with battle weapons is the dumbest thing in 2nd edition and makes other things like vehicle squadrons pretty useless.
You nailed it on the recommendations, mostly. I was surprised at the thumbs up for the box set. I don't think the sentinel is worthwhile, just not enough firepower for a heavy slot. This means the battle group cost is way too high for 25 infantry. The surgeon primus is a surprisingly good unit, it can bring back any ALLIED model, this means terminators or even a Astartes/Marshal warlord/. I think the surgeon primus is a must have for the solar auxilia either as a primary army or allied.
Only if you're using him AS the Surgeon and not as a medicae team, worth pointing out. Also, the sentinal is nothing to write home about, but if it wasn't for the Leman Russ it would be one of the better units in the list, with the melta weapon loadout.
More and more I find it's easy to not buy anything as the rules are just so far behind the cost of the game... my not-playing 40k/30k drought continues. Good solid guide here, Auxilia maybe for players who like 'The underdog' armies?
out of curiosity what your thought in using militia as allied industrial assaults to take a bunch of vanquishers and use solar aux as infantry portion of army?
I’m just getting the models I want because they are cool and would be a fun painting and modeling project, I have no plans on playing very much. At least not very seriously. I really wish they had better rules though.
veltaris are ws4 so they could go toe to toe with anything ws4 in marine lists. The murderous strike is great into ws4 terminators with unwieldy weapons or anything infantry that's got two wounds. I think storm axes are not bad, its too bad that solar auxilia don't have access to any assault vehicles. WS 5 and 2+ is what will give you trouble, best solution would be plasma executioner leman russes or plasma command squads with the reborn cohort to reroll 1s to hit.
With the starting army, I like to point out that they are no good, because in the situations they find themselves, they WILL run into the WS5 units, and then when you bump into power armour, many people are running power mauls this edition, which will absolutely Shrek you at initiative. Then the arms race begins, where you try to shoot off the WS5 units and they try to pop the firepower that can do it....
Reapiers are o ly 35 points with abeavy bolter, i mean surely worth it the las is i think 20 points upgrade so 55 pts i think thats definitely a takw of at least 3 to hold the back mine maybe ?
How dare you have knowledge of gameplay over a broad range of opponents and playstyles!?! What kind of expert do you take yourself for???😅 Very good video. Comprehensive and informative. If only there were models for the World Eaters for you to do the same.
flyers were made for apocalypse games served by forgeworld like super heavies too. but gw creed made them a thing for regular 40k because they didnt want to get their needed units right. flyers are garbage and noon ever should field one in a regular 40k or 30k game. flyers always remind me of how much gw hates making models and satisfy customers.
Eh, I wouldn't call it meta, just not paying a ton of money for units which won't even make their points back. I think that's the key, doesn't have to be great, but if it will never pay for itself, you're wasting money unless you want a showcase force.
@@TheOuterCircle you misunderstand me. I'm not demeaning it. A lot of heresy players like to talk about how it's oh aesthetics over gameplay, and loreful armies and all that, but then you roll up for a game and, oh look, its the legendary 2 contemptors, or a 10 man las squad, or scorpius and snipers or even all of them at the same time, everytime. People wanna win, and I think letting people know the meta level of units is a good thing.

To maximise my $$$ when collecting Auxilia i bought a 3d printer 🤣🤣

I suppose its there because they wanted to make plastic malcadors. And the dracosian shares most of the parts with the malcador.
as someone who likes the malcador tank's asthetic it saddens me to hear how bad it's rules are in 30k this edition. the defender was my first lords of war unit in 40k. honestly if i were to go for those ogryn I'd conversion build them instead of buying the expensive fw option
probably my favorite channel to watch for heresy stuff and learning about the history of the hobby as a pretty young guy wading into it. great vid!

I bought the launch box mainly cux my local store has it for 175 usd instead of gw 210 and that is significant discount total for what you get.
Did get mine for 139€. I am not sure if i even use them for 30k. And even if they will only be allies to my deathguard.

Not sure I agree with the vanquisher call, 4 shot lascannons seem to be pretty good.
Soooo, 3D printer.
I mean, if you happened to buy my STL's I wouldn't complain haha
It's always great when you can directly support the artist.
But but i can buy nearly 40 men for the price of a 3d printer how is that not a good deal?
Thwre are great free STLs for both the Aurox and the Carnodon in the purple site.
Can the Charonites not deploy in Assault Drills?
Buy a 3d printer?
Might as well if you want to stay in the hobby

Thank you sir
Thx for this video helps a lot :D
But you haven't spoken about the axe boys or the rotary cannon boys are they worth it ?
No
3d printer goes brrrrrr
That a no for the Malcadors too?
Hard no, all variants of the Malcador I said in the video. Just stick to the card at the end.
How dare you have knowledge of gameplay over a broad range of opponents and playstyles!?! What kind of expert do you take yourself for???😅
Very good video. Comprehensive and informative. If only there were models for the World Eaters for you to do the same.
Oh is this not another 3d printer review?
The solar aux would make a good heresy-era scout conversion.
i have been wanting to make a army what is the cheapest yet a alright army to start with?
So basically your recommendation is not to play Solar Auxilia XD
No no, they are playable, just you can't use many of the units and expect the best bang for your buck.
Hey Macca, do you have an opinion on home recasting minis to save money?
flyers were made for apocalypse games served by forgeworld like super heavies too.
but gw creed made them a thing for regular 40k because they didnt want to get their needed units right.
flyers are garbage and noon ever should field one in a regular 40k or 30k game.
flyers always remind me of how much gw hates making models and satisfy customers.
Step 1 - buy a printer
Step 2 - find files
Step 3 - profit
I made files, just to serve myself!
Meta gaming at best value
Eh, I wouldn't call it meta, just not paying a ton of money for units which won't even make their points back. I think that's the key, doesn't have to be great, but if it will never pay for itself, you're wasting money unless you want a showcase force.

I think I'll buy a printer and ask some of my friends to make me some models, or paypal some of their files
Where can i find the stl for the destroyer tank hunter you were talking about in the video @theoutercircle
Go on Cults3d and type in "Adamus" and it will bring up a variety of the units I've made.
