It's not that uncommon - Smashing Pumpkins, The Killers, Rise Against and..ahem.. Limp Bizkit, that just from the top of my head, they too have drummers with a jazz background.
This is one of those perfect albums. I can never hear one song without going to listen to all of Fever to Tell start to finish. And apparently I been doing that for 20 years since age 14
I met Karen O outside a venue at like 11 when my older sisters took me to a show in LA... she said my sweats were cool lol :) they had flames on them~~
I still remember the first time I heard this song and saw the video. I was like, “ what is this magic, who are these guys?!” The combination of savage sexuality, punk rock, art and ( seemingly) extinct musical originality, blew my consciousness into higher dimensions! The Yeah Yeah Yeahs are truly one of those bands that have altered the course of indie music! Much like Black Flag, nirvana, Death Van for Cutie, they have shown other aspiring musicians and artists to say “ screw-it, let’s form a band!” I love them forever! 🫡😘👽😁👍
Para mi su mejor rola de la banda, tiene muchas y muy buenas, solo que esta captura todo, la irreverencia de esta mujer, la guitarra con un riff bueno y efecto sencillo pero genial, la cadencia de su ritmo junto con esa bateria... GENIAL.
@@mathewtoll6780 There were so many. The obvious ones are The Strokes, Interpol, etc. But we had The Sounds, The Hives, Electric Six, Peaches, DFA 1979, Sahara Hotnights, The Donnas, Louis XIV, The Von Bondies, Datarock, Hot Hot Heat...I can keep going haha

I'd like to imagine that someone heard Maps and thought "aw, this is so sweet. I wonder what their other songs sound like" and they get jumpscared by this
I’m here after watching Hanna on Prime Video I like the vibe on this track not to mention the rifts and it makes you want to get up and jump around like nothing else matters💯🔥🔥
I would never have thought of YYYs or this song, sonically, as punk-jazz fusion, except if you strictly talk about the musicians' background. Rather a term I would attach to NoMeansNo, Victims Family, John Zorn/Tzadik records/God Is My Co-Pilot, Dragon Or Emperor, Black Carrot, etc, but anyway this is great as long as you like this. And I do too.
I remember first hearing this on a promo cd attached to some sort of music magazine in the early 2000's and I loved it straight away. The idea of giving a cd with a magazine seems so silly these days.
It was this song that got me hooked on yyys and have loved everything they’ve put out since and was very fortunate to see them live this year in Irving, TX.
Dear Yeah Yeah Yeahs. I've purchased all of your albums at least once, please don't be dismayed that I choose to listen to you online now. People keep stealing my good music. Anyway, you rock. That's saying something; my major period of musical expansion was during the 90's, when Nirvana was still a band and Pearl Jam was new. You lot have brought energy back into music. I like it a lot. Thanks!
One of my fave YYY tracks. The energy and raw appeal is off the charts. I’ve never seen them live. I know they are a trio, but to make all that sound from the songs on stage(vs the studio)…are there other players to help Nick with the layered guitar parts or a keyboard player or bassist? Some songs like Maps have multi track guitar parts and some synth background. Only curious.
A jazz drummer in an alternative rock band. What a combo.
worked for The Smashing Pumpkins so....
Phew! One gets a workout just listening to this!!
Art rock.
Not alt rock.
Yes, I'm splitting hairs; but there's a difference!
It's not that uncommon - Smashing Pumpkins, The Killers, Rise Against and..ahem.. Limp Bizkit, that just from the top of my head, they too have drummers with a jazz background.

So true
I think this is my favorite song of all time
It certainly deserves to be someone's... It's flawless and timeless in that rare way.
This song is never gonna get old.
Eight years after yr comment and it still isn't old.
It's 2022 and this song is still new.
20 years on (it was released in 2003) and heard it in the Hanna TV series. A most excellent tune.
2023 and it still sounds like it's from the future
You do tho, it was 20 years ago, i was 13 i remember when i first listened this band
I met Karen O outside a venue at like 11 when my older sisters took me to a show in LA... she said my sweats were cool lol :) they had flames on them~~
And you framed those flame sweats.
these guitar riffs touch me in all the right places
Brooks Raguse YES.
One of the most underrated band ...
I sort of agree with you, but their videos do get a lot of views. They are super talented and of my favorites tho!
absolutely
True. I mean “Maps” kinda put them out there, but they deserved more. And their live shows are crazy af
One of the most shittest band...*
Alina Yuditskaya Maps And Heads will roll
Fever to Tell was YYY's most sounding punk record they've ever released.
Fever To Tell is still my favourite rock album of the 2000s
Hi Pete Doherty. How are ya?
Yeah it's pure raw energy...maps...Brilliant and so emotional and pure
Criminally underrated song (and record) because of the "Heads Will Roll" stuff.
The album is perfect start to finish
I still remember the first time I heard this song and saw the video. Savage sexuality?
Death van for cutie hahaha
Oopsie😬 ( though I think maybe a good band name would be Life Van For Ugly!)😆
SAME. Me and my best friend (RIP) prob watched this video 15 times in a row trippin on mushrooms and bugging tf out on how Amazingly Rad it was
I cannot stress how close to being crushed into play-doh as I was being at the front of the pit for a YYYs show. Those fans do not mess around.
Para mi su mejor rola de la banda, tiene muchas y muy buenas, solo que esta captura todo, la irreverencia de esta mujer, la guitarra con un riff bueno y efecto sencillo pero genial, la cadencia de su ritmo junto con esa bateria... GENIAL.
Such a grand culmination of post-punk in this era. So much great rock music creeping from below the radar back then.
what are the other bands you think were killing it back than?
@@mathewtoll6780 There were so many. The obvious ones are The Strokes, Interpol, etc. But we had The Sounds, The Hives, Electric Six, Peaches, DFA 1979, Sahara Hotnights, The Donnas, Louis XIV, The Von Bondies, Datarock, Hot Hot Heat...I can keep going haha
The short lived but amazing at the drive in.

This song is really daring. Very impressive.
I like how Karen O put that microphone in her mouth. That is so badass! Love the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
I truly feel sorry for those who cannot feel this
