    The new Mach Supersonic from HOKA is an interesting off-shoot from one of my favorite HOKA road shoes from the last few years. The Supersonic brings a more responsive ride, a comfortable, thicker upper and an interestingly clunky ride from the midfoot back - it makes for a fun, yet trepidatious choice for training miles. What are YOUR thoughts?

    Big heel handle aside, the Mach Supersonic is an interesting addition to the Mach lineage from HOKA. It provides a more stable and responsive ride compared to (one of my favorites from the brand) the Mach 4. What are your thoughts on the new Mach Supersonic?

    Another great review! The Mach 4 has been my daily trainer lately, really like them. I totally returned the Kinvara as it was not my jam -thanks for drawing the comparison there. Might check out the Mach 5 next year when the 4’s wear out.

    Loved the Mach 4, might have to try this version 😀

    Firrrrrst ✌️
    I love the Mach 4!! It’s one of my ride or die shoes for road: I love it for speedwork and tempo runs. I used it almost right out of the box for a 30k road race last year and I felt like I was flying.
    This was an interesting review. Based on the name, I assumed it was an elevated version of the Mach series. I might have to check this out!
    I’m loving the Hoka review notifications on discord, btw 👍

    The Mach is imo the best shoe from Hoka (and the closest to the Huaka). Still don’t understand why they discontinued it.
    Clifton and Rincon are too soft for me, the Mach is just the perfect balance of plush and responsive, but I could definitely add this or the Carbon X for race day.
    With this huge strap, I guess they’re going after triathletes. Not sure if there’s a need for another in between model though. Too much to choose between.

    Miss the Seattle SuperSonics…NBA and Seattle need to work something out and bring ‘em back. This coming from a dude from/lives in Ohio lol. Also great review!

    I just started running in the Mach 4 and my “professional” opinion - Rincon 3 > Mach 4 > Clifton… Rincon 3 is the most fun and versatile Hoka I’ve used. The Mach 4 is good but I expected more based on all the positive reviews.

      looks are definitely subjective - when i was a kid a looooong time ago we had a sofa that had a design similiar 🤪 so for me it looks very dated or the more polite term now is “retro” i think - like avocado colored refrigerators. 😁🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️

  • @marlinweekley51
    @marlinweekley51 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think they added rubber or more rubber to the Clifton (8)and Rincon (3) but not the Mach. My experience with the Mach and Rincon 2 is the the outsoles wear fairly quickly.

    Am I crazy to think the shoe sounds like a mix between the Mach 4 and the Novablast 1 in some way, because that's exactly what I'm looking for. On another note, the Kinvara, should I try it?

  • @Phaewryn_

    The thing I noticed immediately in the first few seconds of your video was how the foot was landing on the outside edge of the forefoot... this is what I experienced in Hokas, and it drove me nuts. I felt like I was swimming in molasses, just trying to fight to make my foot land in a natural (flat) position and not have all the weight on the outside edge of the ball of my foot and my little toe, and no matter what I did, it felt like the Hokas kept rolling my weight that direction and my forefoot pressed to the outside edge inside the shoe, crushing my toes. I hated them. It felt like all I did was fight the shoe nonstop. The Hokas were that frustrating for me. It may worth mentioning that I live and walk/run in very hilly terrain. Maybe Hokas just are not well-suited to people living in places with elevation changes? These at least look like they have less "squish" so there is less "roll" and "foot eating" happening (which is the only way I can describe how the pillow-like cushion on my Hokas consumed my forefoot no matter how much I fought to control it). Maybe it had broken down or something, I don't recall it being bad when they were new but by the end of the year, they had become intolerable. Desperate to find a running shoe that didn't suck, I decided to try a new brand based on your video reviews and now have a pair of Saucony Ride 14's. I don't think you actually reviewed Ride 14's, but they were supposedly "the shoe" for "beginner runners wanting a neutral shoe" in the Saucony line-up. I'm really liking them, especially since they have a version with "run sheild" which has an insulation and water-resistant outer, which is perfect for Vermont springtime and icy mud puddles. I wish you'd review more Saucony shoes, because they fit me great (I love that the toebox has tons of room, something I require), and I'd like to get some more Saucony shoes and need guidance and you're my go-to running shoe channel, but I'm not actually a runner, more of a hobble around the block at a speed walking pace, then sprint for 45 seconds to 90 seconds, then hobble at a speed walk for 2-3 minutes, then sprint again, and repeat person (HIIT training), just trying to keep some level of basic cardiac and lung fitness so I don't die of ill-health (half the time my knee pain is so bad the speed walking part is more of speed limping). I do a couple miles of that every other day in the seasons the weather permits (although I'm open to expanding my season if you have found a shoe that actually makes it safe to run on snow and ice). I'd love to see some videos recommending shoes for non-pros like me, because I have no idea what to look for in a shoe and I want to buy more Saucony shoes but most of your videos seem to be of their "pro line" shoes geared for "real runners". I thought the Hokas were the best shoe, but they turned out to be a nightmare for me as I hated the constant "pillow fight" of feeling like I had no control of how my foot landed and no feel of the ground. I thought some cushioning would be nice as I'm getting older and have a bad knee, but I hated having no control of how my foot oriented to the ground, and I'd sacrifice it for energy return and fun. I just want a nice, super springy, very bouncy, FUN, energy-filled neutral shoe that PROPELS me through my health jaunts around the block, so I don't hate my time out there so much. I would like for the time I spend power-walking to not be painful, and for the time I spend sprinting to feel super bouncy and energetic so it's actually fun and I don't feel like a hippo but instead more like a gazelle (because self-image matters at 46 and I need all the help I can get). More Saucony reviews for everyday trainers, please?

    I like the vote of “try”. So many of us wanted an improved Mach 4 when this came out and the reviews show this isn’t a better “Mach 4” so it’s probably getting a bad rap for those reasons. Agree about the strips… the shoe looks dated. Nice review.

    I like the Mach 4 so much, I quickly bought a 2nd pair as back up. Best shoes I ever tried. I have found them to be fast tempo shoes. I cannot run slow in them. My Rincon 2 give them a run for the money. I was also surprised to get 500 miles out of the Rincon 2 and am over 200 miles with the Mach 4 and showing no wear. Never expected they would be so durable. I'll have to think about the Supersonics though. They are faster than the Mach 4?

    • @TheGingerRunner
      @TheGingerRunner  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Faster is a bit of a misnomer. They’re “snappier” for sure, but I still like the Mach 4 WAY better, even for tempo days.

    Hi. I saw these for $130. I'd like to try them. I have a pair of Bondi, Challenger, and Carbon X ($180). I'm a heel striker, so these MIGHT not work for me. Thanks for sharing this with us.😃👋🏽👨🏾‍⚕️

    Still no improvement on the Clifton 1, which were 2+ oz lighter and in every way, better. Glad that I still have several pair of these. The Rincon 1 and the Clifton 3 are my other go-to shoes - Rincon for speed, Clifton 3 for pavement.
