Out. Of. Control. He has sung backgrounds for just about everyone. He has the ability to blend perfectly for backgrounds but he has so much character that he's also a phenomenal lead. How he's managed to hang on to his range at his age is just astounding. He would have been about 60 by this point. He's pacing himself a bit but no man should be able to hit those notes at his age. That voice defies gravity.
I took my daughter to one of the smooth cruise concerts on her 18th birthday and Phil sang happy birthday to her! On stage too! The child was laughing and crying at the same time ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😂😂😂 she’ll never ever forget that 😊❤

It's AMAZING how "live" and purely unrehearsed this really is. At 5:54 and again @ 6:25 the Background singers are ready to jump back in but Phil holds them off with a subtle hand gesture while he finishes what he came there to do lol. Everybody just knows what to do and to follow his lead. True artistry.

True that. When they shake their heads in amazement, wow. I've seen Whitney's band or background singers do it too. It don't matter about the rehearsal because when the artist get out in front of that audience, they're feeding off of each other's energy, and the artist just does some amazing, surprising things that astound all the listeners, like was exhibited here. The phase "Words cannot describe" fits when applied to his singing ability. I'll try some - Extraordinary, Beautiful, Exquisite, Magnificent. Phil "sangin" his ...... off! Background singers sound great, also. I listen to some of his cd s over and over at home (as many of us do). Love the way he changes octaves and goes off into solo, I guess it"s called, vamping on a lot of his recordings. This performance here takes your breath away. He expresses the emotion of this song so beautifully. You caught something special with this video. He probably sounds this way in rehearsal all time.
