One thing I discovered, after many attempts, is the usb cable MUST be an Apple cable. I tried numerous aftermarket cables that wouldn't work. It always informed me I had no connection, even though it was charging the phone. I then plugged in an actual Apple usb cable, and it fired right up. I learned this from the Honda Canada tutorial.

Some cables are produced for power only, no data. Just be sure the cable you purchase states that it is for data transfer as well.

In Bluetooth mode.. in order to just listen to music, will earbuds do? Or do you need the headset?
Does this work with the Tom Tom app?
When I bought my Africa Twin CRF 1100 L DCT Adventure Sports Connection went find Siri worked find weeks later Siri isn’t clear anymore could not even understand a single word it says not sure what’s happening. Used different headset, updated software reconnect nothing works Siri is still not clear and loud enough. Even infos from my phone connected are not clear through that Honda System setup.

They should bring that tech down to the Grom and just make it add-on just like buying a car.. should also offer dual clutch transmission on the Grom too
It would be neat as add ONS but I think they don't do it normally to keep the price down. Would be a really neat little bike with those added

Nope. It will NOT connect without a Bluetooth headset. Maybe get a garmin?
Yes it works. You just need to push the ”return” button for 5sec (when it asks for pairing an headset) and it works without Bluetooth
One big problem. What about Deaf or Hard of Hearing people they can’t hearing on headsets.. why they can’t have set up their phones without headset

Personally there should be a watertight compartment under the seat with a USB plug .. But I'm not an engineer
You can use a wireless dongle but being wired in means your phone is on charge so never runs flat - I think that is great
Got a new Africa Twin 2020 in June 2021, I asked my dealer that they did all the updates they said oh yeah all good to go well guess what not my bike now has 400 kms , CarPlay does not work at all best leave your phone at home , best idea Honda! You have POS software, great bike but there are no I instructions and this video from Honda USA is a joke does not cover a 1/10 of the rocket science needed to get honda software working with iPhone, well actually there is no instructions, my dealer said they don’t have a clue how to make it work! Music plays for three seconds with a 2 sencond hickup, maps app route dumps out and leaves you sitting on the road with no instructions. I ended up mounting my iPhone on the bars and turned off all the Honda Carnot play stuff. Tried calling dealer got a number for Honda Canada tech support, spent two hours on hold clicking button one, 3 and after the link g wait got disconnected to dial tone! Heven forbid if the try to make it work on android! Like I said nice bike but forgot this as a feature, it’s not!
Also , and to this honda rep in the video showing how easy it is you don’t actually ever pair your iPhone with Bluetooth if you do your screwed forever!
Hey Reg I’ve had my 2020 at for about 7 months now , I have only just now got the apple car play working , didn’t take much , only 9 trips to the dealer and they finally replaced the tft screen that fixed it , all I wanted for was maps , I don’t want to talk or listen to music or look at messages when riding , I do like the bike but this tech leaves a bit to be be desired . Cheers
Funny how you blame the company for your incompetence. I bought the 2021 last night. Got home, updated as suggested on the site and apple CarPlay works perfect for me
most worst system if u don't have bluetooth system u can't connect 😂 really honda .
