This reminds me of the class in Symbolic Logic that I took as an engineering undergraduate. It counted as a humanities elective because it was taught by the Philosophy Department. If you understood algebra, the only thing you had to concentrate on was translating the word problems into symbols. From that point on it was just algebra, albeit a slightly different algebra than you had learned in high school. This was a class in which you either "got it" or you didn't. Rather than following the expected normal distribution, the distribution of grades looked almost like (1 - the normal distribution). There were a lot of As and Bs, very few Cs, and lots of Ds and Fs.

I've got that book in my personal library!! 😊😊 In fact, I have A LOT of mathematical logic books, as well as general logic AND proof theory books, in what I regard as my critical thought library which is an ancillary part or a supplement to my math library as a whole. 😉😉♥♥ Thank you for covering this particular volume, Prof. Dr. MS!!!! 😘😘

I like these book reviews, especially of books that cover old or very obscure/lost math and books that cover foundational or theoretical mathematics. I’m not as fond of reviews that cover books that are new especially if they cover topics that an undergraduate in stem(physics/chemistry or bio) because I have books on those subjects.
Bonus points if you write this as a statement with and, or, and not.

Yeah why not? People will get at you for downloading books but those people also download books and are just being jerks. I do the same I do it a chapter or a maybe 20 pages at a time single sided and staple them together. I then keep a separate notebook or set of notebooks to take notes. This works very well.

The book I learnt logic from was Virginia Klenk's Introduction to Symbolic Logic. I think it's a fantastic book. I like how she talks about how the rules of logic stem from what we already know to be the case in everyday discourse and reasoning, as opposed to something from a pre-existing field that you are just inducted into.

i was thinking about buying the book until i read this review of the book on goodreads
(''This book was a nightmare. The first third of the book is more or less basic-intermediate logic and easily understandable with a foundation in logic. But give up trying to understand the rest. It'd be possible to slog through it were Copi at all able to explain the more advanced axioms. Examples are sparse and explanations are seemingly contradictory (it's impossible to tell without examples). I asked a few senior math major friends and the math being used in this section was beyond anything they had studied. So, if you're looking for an introduction to the material, look elsewhere. The only problem is, even though it was written in the 1970's, it is still one of the only books on the subject, and used by most professors I have talked to.'')
especially the math part made me think about it again even though i have read a little portion of the book and it was really good , so what do you think ?
