heehee, I have two old time ones. An R10 gold chassis and an RC10 T2. Allegedly they're worth more than I paid 10+ yrs ago, but back then I raced both anyway, so they're kind of scruffy. 😁

I've always been an Arrma fan boy, but off the back of this I bought a used Slash. Was looking for a brushed with a view to putting my own brushless in, but a vxl came up cheap.
Oh my, it is seriously fast and such good fun. I love the 2wd.
Typhon 3s is awesome Phil,and if you take out the centre driveshaft you've got a very good two wheel drive Arrma buggy 😁 I did widen the track by 23mm with some banggood bought wheel hubs though,to make it even more stable.

I recently put a Sidewinder 3 esc with a 4600 kv motor on my rustler 2wd. Running it with a 25t pinion and 83t spur gear. The thing rips. Nice video!

I race the Rustler 2wd on a friend's track on both 2s and 3s. It's a really fun truck. 2s is for racing, but 3s is just for fun. You can't actually put down consistent lap times on 3s lol.
On a side note you should look into the Traxxas extreme duty drives shafts from the rustle 4x4 vxl. They fit perfectly and won't break like the stock ones.
Quick question I just installed a vxl 3s system on my slash 4x4 but if I only run 2s as I never plan to run 3s would I need the heavy duty axles or would I be ok?
@@therowdyboysnetwork2827 you'll be fine with the stock axles. But you could always install the extreme duty shafts from the rustler 4x4 vxl if you wanted to. They're only like $20 or $30 for all four I believe. They're stronger then the stock shafts the slash comes with.

The way you brought the front back down in the very last shot of the video was all the more impressive when you consider that you only had the rotational inertia of the rear wheels to work with.
Yes… 2wd is a little different in the air. Timing is certainly key!

The Arrma BLX systems are so fast and tough. Ive had the same BLX100 in my Losi Tenacity SCT for years with no issues whatsoever doing anything: Racing, bashing, street driving.
Yes, shame they went over to Spektrum… I’ve not seen good reviews on their equivalent motor
The Rustler isnt a buggy btw. Its an stadium truck. It may come across as a buggy due to the chassis shape being similar, but yeah its a stadium truck. Difference is wide wheel base on stadium truck vs narrow wheel base on buggys. And staggered wheels on buggys. Fat rears and skinny fronts (not always, some do all same size on all 4 corners, but many stagger). Varies on application and track as well as if Awd or Rwd
The Rustler shares it's chassis with the Bandit (buggy). It just has longer suspension arms and "fat" front tires. Any chance you are a fan of Seth Meyers and Late Night Corrections? You'd fit in well with his fan base of jackals.
@@TnDAtkinson lol nope, i havent watched Seth Meyers in yrs. But yeah i totally forgot about the Bandit and Rustler having the same chassis. So i suppose in this case the Rustler could be referred to as an buggy, especially if your familiar with bandit or own one. Makes sense. I was thinking in the normal classification, of how buggies, stadium trucks are grouped at track events. Cant believe i forgot about the Bandit. Had one for little while back when first came out, but i got into Team Associated and and Team Losi buggies short after. Traxass became the go to basher brand for me. Thanks for the reminder.
@@JPSkriP They are fun. I've got a custom Bandit and VXL Rustler. They are really tough and fast for what they cost. A quick swap of the front body mount and one becomes the other.

The Rustler is pretty dang tough 2WD Rustler was my first hobby grade Not great racers but the are loads of fun to bash around and do speed runs ✌️

I didn't realize how durable the rustler was till the skate park bit, I have put rpm stuff and metal shock caps on mine just because so its fairly tanked up!

How about a comparison with other off the shelf options, what few there are? HPI jumpshot for example.
I bought a 2WD Rustler with the Velineon brushless motor and blew up the tires doing donuts. Then I got an AWD Rustler with the brushed motor and swapped them. It's ridiculous! I love it. I'd like to know more about what to do to get it as fast as possible, but I have plenty of fun with it.

I like the vid and what you've done and not trying to have a go but especially for the price I'm not sure how what you've done is any better than just getting the VXL version to start with. That supposedly goes 70mph or so which given the performance of mine I don't have any reason not to believe

I swapped the radios between my Traxxas Stampede 4x4 VXL & Arrma Typhon 3s because they're better matched to the vehicles this way.

l have the VLX and run it on 3s also fitted with rock crawler tires and WOW WHAT A FUN OFF ROAD BASHER IT BECOMES THEN !! FYI WATCH GEARING axial tires are really heavy but other options are lighter and should work much better :)
Damn. Great video. I hadn't seen this one yet, and I was just thinking of doing the exact same with my rustler and senton blx. So I looked it up to see if someone's done it. I figured kevin talbot or somebody probably had, but I also wasn't that surprised to see that it was you instead. Nice work. I bet fanboys were losing their hair from stress having seen this. Does the stock receiver and radio work with the blx system? Or would I need change them out too?
Cheers dude. Stock receiver and radio work fine.. although a cheap DumboRC with a Gyro would be better for range and a bit of stability :)

Well now I need to gear my rustler up for a speed run. 1st gen 2wd with a 1st gen mamba 5700kv in it.
I had a similar experience with the 2wd Rustler. It was my first one a couple years ago, and I managed to kill the XL5 motor. I bought a GoolRC brushless combo off of eBay and it goes! I think you'd have had a better go at speed runs if you'd have upgraded the wheels/tires to something belted, or one of Arrma's offerings. The Traxxas tires balloon too much.

Yes, they are decent… although prices have gone up a little, there is usually a few decent used ones on eBay and Facebook

That's more realistic I actually put the arrmaf 6s BLX system in my rustler with mod 1 gears 40 spur 30 pinion does 90 mph and then takes flight

Turn down your brake in that esc to 37% then it will not spin out of control when braking.

I was in a hobby store yesterday and the salesman told me to get the rustler vxl, but my first choice was the brushed slash 2wd. Its so hard to decide and it will be my priciest purchase in case i get one 😂
The VXL is quite expensive new.. I’d get a brushed one and upgrade it as you go.. more satisfying that way
