    "When it comes to beautiful objects, you become more beautiful by being near beauty. You can ruminate on that, if you'd like." Oh you better believe I'm gonna ruminate on that. It's gonna be the only thing I think about for months.

    We should all chip in and make a thread on how to turn our utilitarian objects into artful pieces for our daily rituals. The toothbrush idea is a revolutionary one in my book

      The beautiful items I have/want/planning on making or buying are:
      Artful Notebook/journal sleeve
      Unique pens, bookmarks, mug/glasses
      Appealing Reusable Grocery Bags, a big wooden block for a cutting board
      Beautiful comb and hairbrush
      Sphere Ice Cube trays(I live of iced coffee) and perhaps a nice lunchbox(I always forget about lunch smh)
      Appealing BINS
      Decorated nail clippers set

      -A cute microwave! I’ve seen the most adorable retro ones online!
      -A vintage popcorn machine (to replace microwaveable popcorn!)
      -All light fixtures and lamps (it might be really lovely to create a theme with them! Futuristic, retro, medieval, fantasy, etc.)

      My goal is to have mostly handmade objects in my home (dishes, clothes, storage items, etc.). Handmade items hold a different vibration and add to the 'ritual' quality of life!

    the part about beautiful utilitarian items is actually groundbreaking for me.
    beauty is missing from sooo many everyday items these days and it's important to fight back against the oppression of cultural minimalism !!

      Minimalism is cool, but at the rate it’s going…it can also cause desolation and apathy. It’s time for beauty to step in and save, without context or explanation.

    You put into words how I taught myself to clean my house, do my skincare every night, and go to the gym. I'd never thought of it like that. It kind of sums up how I feel inspired to do things when I see people doing aesthetic videos on tiktok or whatever. Now that I can think about it this way, maybe I can get myself to ritualize working and cooking, haha

    5:37 Agreed, definitely do not overpack your schedule, but also be wise with your time. An indulgence here and there is fine for a special event that is meaningful to you, or if the mood strikes, or if you determined that you are at your absolute best if you ritualize certain aspects of your life, but this has to be determined on a case-by-case basis and looked at on an individual basis.

    • @HeavenSentHoney
      @HeavenSentHoney  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would definitely agree… and I do believe there are small steps to take (also just being aware that young children are beautiful just by existing and how they interact with the world) but ALOT of family life is messy in a not so romantic way.

      I think children just naturally romanticize life! I love going through my day with my daughter and seeing how she turns mundane everyday moments into magical & imaginative encounters. It requires shifting out of the adult “getting things done” mode and seeing the world through a child’s eyes, but when it happens it’s amazing 😍

    I am really enjoying your content and the stuff you say about beauty and here, about rituals. If I may recommend a book, Art as Experience by John Dewey, a work of aesthetics from the early 20th century. It's a great book, and Dewey argues that to experience the world in an aesthetic way is to have a similar kind of experience of things to how you describe here. For example, if you have a dinner party, to experience it aesthetically is to focus on it as an experience from the start (planning, preparing, getting ready) all the way to the end (washing up before bed). That's a rough and ready version, but it's worth a read!

    4:04 That is not feasible nor sustainable on a consistent basis. That is a privilege once you are able to set up your life in such a way, and it comes with opportunity costs. For instance, taking three hours to get ready cuts into time that could be used to meal prep, sleep, exercise, walk in nature, etc. One needs to take inventory and note which experiences they value most, help their future self more, and recharge them and replenish them the most.

  • @letsdomath1750
    @letsdomath1750 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    6:43 You can also practice detachment and witness the inherent beauty in everything that exists with gratitude that you can experience so many diverse phenomena. If you have the choice to purchase something that you aesthetically prefer versus something that hurts your eyes, definitely do so, but if you are unable to do that yet, due time, money, and energy constraints, it's okay to relax and appreciate what you do have right now without judgment or criticism.

  • @letsdomath1750
    @letsdomath1750 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    9:52 We can, and we can also recognize that meaning is a mapping that we assign from an object, event, or experience to some importance or relevance to our value system. Why is that important? Because meaning is arbitrary, and we can change it whenever we want, and that includes doing so retroactively.

    1:22 That is not always available. You need to make sure that you are in the mental and emotional space to do so before starting that practice. First make sure that you are not super overwhelmed, triggered, tired, upset, etc., and then it is much easier to appreciate and refine and elevate the mundane.

  • @letsdomath1750

    0:18 If you are going through a really traumatic event or are experiencing intense symptoms from a mental health disorder, experiencing your life with disdain some days will probably happen. It's not permanent, but if it happens, that too is okay as you can always change in the next moment.

      I actually don’t think I have any authority at all to say anything because being a mother I KNOW is going to be an immense challenge for me. I actually fear that I will lose an integral part of myself in the process because I will have to bow to the “ugliness” of toys scattered on the floor and changing diapers.
      Children however are some of the most beautiful pure spectacles on this earth and their bewilderment and awe is probably enough to reaffirm my belief in beauty daily.. but the other stuff I know will be difficult.

    9:38 I mean... It's both, not exclusively one or the other. Each human is but a speck of dust in the universe, AND each human is the main character in their own story. There is no shame in that. Ditto with the fact that we are biologically animals who eat, shit, piss, have sexual urges, etc. We can also create art, skyscrapers, rocket ships, music, and so much more. What a blessing to be all things at once and to embrace the totality of that.

      At the end, if you are struggling and don’t have any way out, look for details. Details will save you. How prepare something, how you open a store…etc. in places I hated, I focused on the ritualism required for most jobs, like going through steps required and doing them swiftly and adequately each time and getting lost in the process. Hope this helps ❤️
