Thank u much Andy for your lovely work 😍 Much appreciated and very nice video and proper Kurdish vocabulary only would like to mention one clarification, the Sorani is not a main Kurdish dialect , Kurdish language consists of four main dialects : Kurmanji Gorani ( Zazaki and hawrami) Kalhuri Like And Hawleri , Slemani , Karkuki , koye, xanaqini are sub dialects . Soran and Bahdenan are 2 regions in Kurdistan , they don’t represent a main or a specific dialect. Kurdish language is very rich and diverse Cz it’s very old .
I want to point out a mistake. There is no dialect called Sorani, this middle Kurmanji soran is just a region name, it is called Sorani to describe the dialect found there.
Pardon…?! Are u trolling? « Sorani Kurdish (Sorani Kurdish: کوردیی ناوەندی, Kurdî Nawendî),[3][4][5] also known as Central Kurdish, is a Kurdish dialect[6][7][8] or a language[9][10] spoken in Iraq, mainly in Iraqi Kurdistan, as well as the provinces of Kurdistan, Kermanshah, and West Azerbaijan in western Iran. Sorani is one of the two official languages of Iraq, along with Arabic, and is in administrative documents simply referred to as "Kurdish".[11][12] The term Sorani, named after the Soran Emirate, is used especially to refer to a written, standardized form of Central Kurdish written in the Sorani alphabet developed from the Arabic alphabet in the 1920s by Sa'ed Sidqi Kaban and Taufiq Wahby.[13]» en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sorani translatorswithoutborders.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/Kurdish-Factsheet-English.pdf iranian-languages.arizona.edu/node/2 …?
This is confusing me because if the dialect is named after the region it’s found in, why isn’t it called that? Most dialects or forms of a language are named based on their location, like American English or British English. Even for languages like Arabic, we say Egyptian Arabic or Moroccan Arabic to denote the Arabic spoken in those regions. I understand that there is likely a native term for this dialect, but why aren’t Kurdish dialects named similarly in English? For example, why isn’t this dialect of Kurdish referred to as Sorani Kurdish (or another geographical name), since it’s the dialect found in the Soran region? I’m just confused and it be helpful if you clarify.
Sorani is actually the original name of Hewlêri because it's part of the Soran region Just like how Badini is named after the Badinan region or Mukrıyani being named after Mukrıyan (Mehabad, Piranşar, Bokan, Neqede)
